If you are being harrassed by these people, write a letter to the Telecommunication Industry Ombudsman, no debt/complaint may be heard in court until Telstra has resolved the matter with them FIRST. They use this company to threaten you into believing you have no choice but to pay. No, the choice is make the TIO and Telstra fight each other and you go about your life. When Telstra WANTS to resolve the complaint they will write to you offering a negotiated settlement, if they don't want to settle, keep sending their letters to the TIO. Each letter you send costs Telstra $78 to respond too, each time they do not respond properly they go up a level. By the time Telstra has hit level 2 they are up for $10,000 per letter for refusing to deal with you properly.

I got a message today telling me I had to contact them urgently to discuss an important matter.  Since when would Dun & Bradstreet contact someone by text message rather than send them a letter?  Rather sus to me and I wont be calling them back.

This mob of tosses rang me and wanted all my details before they spoke to me. I rang back and gave them my name and the wrong year on my date of birth....

They told me I have money owing to Foxtel which turned out to be legit. They said I could not pay Foxtel direct but i did anyway because they seemed dodgy.

I got the same "urgent matter to attend to " SMS this afternoon on my optus phone.. I googled the 1300 number and it bring me to this page. Also I rang the number the txt came from 0416907428, and telstra says it is sorry but it's a disconnected/out of service number!!! Now how would anyone use an out of service number to txt someone if it is to do with urgent matters??. This all sounds suspicious to me, these d&b guys must be fraudulent people!!!

If you get telegrams its so obvious that they are trying every trick in the book to "contract" with you and to get you to call them or write to them.
DO NOT open it or correspond with them. Instead, google the return address on the front of the envelope and you will find that is is Dunn and Bradstreet (or another collections agency).
Remember, you have NO CONTRACT with any of these companies and you do not legally owe them any debt.
Also, the name on the front of the telegram or envelope will always be something like
MR JOHN ABRAHAM.
This name is not you. Because it is in all caps it is a legal fiction. It will also start with MR, MISS, MRS. This also is not you. Your name is actually John Abraham. All lower case. No Mr, Mrs etc. Your parents didn't name you MR JOHN ABRAHAM did they? No, so it isn't your name.
On the front of the envelope, IN RED SHARPIE write RETURN TO SENDER. ADDRESSEE NOT RECOGNISED. Put it back in the post to them.
For more info on dealing with banks, credit cards, parking tickets and debt collectors a great website I've been using is getoutofdebtfree.org
Hope this helps.

I dont want to get any hate comments about this but i have actually worked for telstra and bigpond so i know Dun & Bradstreet are a legit debt collection agency. However, I believe the calls/telegrams/sms are scams. I have only 2 accounts (phone and net - and neither with telstra/bigpond) and one account is only recently overdue by $7.61. I have worked for other telcos and i know for a fact telcos do NOT send accounts to a debt collector that arent even a month over due!

My current service provider would not have sent either of my accounts to a debt collector without first
trying to contact me directly by phone, sms, email and letter to notify of the overdue amount AND they would then send an OFFICIAL letter to inform me that my account is being sent to a debt collector and provide the debt collectors details.

if you get a call from this 1300# call D&B on their LEGIT number and ask questions. the very first question i would ask is, do they send sms notifications of a debt without making any other form of contact ie. letter (snail mail), phone and email. i doubt any professional debt collection agency would make this the first point of contact. the first point of contact would be a snail mail letter (not telegram) providing you all of your details, the details of the company they are collecting on behalf of (ie. telstra - or whoever) and then give the specific details of your account/money they are trying to collect.

I also highly recommend you report any of these calls/telegrams/sms. It was recently on a current affair (or some show like that) about reporting spam sms to the Australian Communications and Media Authority. the web address is http://www.acma.gov.au/interforms/smsRegister_form.asp or just google ACMA spam

messages in form of telegram are illegal in australia they have to tell you whom they are where there from and the reasons for there contact and contact details
i strongly sugest you ignor this tellegrams and report to police you are illegaly been advised by writing under consumer information act all company's have to have contact details and company name clearly stated on all letters they also have to record abn numbers and any relivent info to identify these companys

besided these company are smart there cutting back on phone call costs by sending you sms and tellegrams to get you too call them at your cost

if they want you they are by law to contact you dont pay for there call to you

you are not legaly bound by law to pay for dept collection fees, it's the company chasing you for money to pay these fees not the consumer you can legaly refuse to pay for there services because you did not ask for there services your dept to any one has to be paid one way or another but you are legaly intitled to pay for your dept to the original amount on your bills and nothing more

these dept collection agents get paid to collect not transfere moneys to depters after been paid by companys to collect

so saying this the company pay them to get there money from you
you are then charged extra fees for this  collection

which means in lamen terms these companys collecting money is being paid twice for there services
one of wich fee is sent to you to pay

you did not ask for there services do not pay them and refuse to act with them and tell them under consumers act you are not legaly bound by law to pay for services  in which you did not personaly aprove to

and inform them that you have recorded this phone call and it will be forwarded to police

i have done this and check all relivent laws i be very suprised if they ever call again
well they may
but use different name be carfull lion finance is one of them if any one from this company calls you using such name as lion finance is not reg and lic to act in australia as dept collection agent report it to police asap

dun brad street know there using illegal services to collect on there behalf lets hope there some sucess in getting these company exsposed for there ilegal activity and proceedures

please be aware dun and brad street has affiliat company working from the uk they call them selves lion finance and dept consolidation group just let you know there is no records in australia or the uk for this company name or any country for that matter so saying that this company works for dnb and is not registered company in australia and has no legal right to chase or even ring to purseuw depts on australians i have found this info and am reporting to ausy priminister my self of this bogus company name and that i also have writen evidence of this company working for dun bradstreet do not deal with dandb as there using companies from uk to collect ausy depts and are not licensed or reg in australia to legaly do so also once your personal information has been passed to this so called lion finance your infor mation is then release to the public of the uk which means your personal details are open slather to fraudulent activity if you reciave any letters from dnb or lion finance report it to police asap your person details are not protected in uk under any privacy act here in australia we are protected to sertain dagree in uk our info is widly open to public sectors do not give them your personal details or address you will comprimise you security and personal details and you will at some stage be subject reacuring depts of the original depts which means you will pay for your dept twice over as uk do not store records also dun and bradstreet know that our identity is not protected in uk and are ignoring our rights as australians to have some kind of privasy to our right to confidentuality in uk there is non and dun brad street are using this company to short cut the australian rules or ingagments with clients so to collect depts as the uk companys do not have to comply with australian privacy actsi have been able to obtain evidence of this happening and also related laws too and am sending this details to australian consumer affairs and all radio station through out ausy and been send via lawyers to australian govenment for review

WARNING do not give dun brad street your details over the phone to comfirm your details which they already have and besideds the threats of giving you bad credit history is not legaly there to do only the company in which you are in dept with can do that if they say this to you record this call and phone the police  and report it asap dnb using loop holes in the law privasy to get what they want

this is not the isue it is the fact that your person details are open to the uk public records for any one to see

SMS was from 0416907210, said to call 1300655020 regarding an urgent matter. Gave an opt out? I rang the 1300 number, it was for DMV, who said they were a debt collection agency. After quoting the number in the message, was told that they had an outdated phone number. Lot of crap. Asked to speak to a supervisor, but was told no one would speak to me.

Its all crap just disregard it, i dont have anything to do with telstra mobile or home phone too, the same "company" has been calling me asking for "Ian Jackson" and having to quote  #6999040 so im guessing someone provided a false number which was really mine or else they just try to suck you in to the scam. regardless i will not do anything until i get a dirty letter from this company that is not a "telegram" stating my so called debt with telstra, even though i dont use them.

I actually called, but was put into a waiting queue. Then I got suspicious, good that I found this website. I do not have any debt and will not call them again.

Hi all!

Googled this number 1300655020 and landed here.

About quarter of an hour ago I got a call from this Number (1300655020) left in my Telstra message bank! From a guy with a fast Irish sounding voice, asking me to ring this number and then quote a Reference Number that he had left. He said that if I return the call, do it before 8pm Eastern Time. THEN my WIFE gets a call from an automated Voice Machine on her mobile wanting her Date of Birth which she RIGHTFULLY DECLINED! We are slightly behind with the latest bill because I lost my contract when the government axed a 'project' and I am still owed money. Not looking for simpathy and I'm a Tradie. But wants up with this??

Not happy!

I have recieved one of these telegrams from D&B today. I only found out who it was by doing a search on the internet with the number 1300 655 020.
I had an issue with telstra some time ago. They wanted to keep me dealing with telstra but i said that i no longer wanted a contract. By law i don't have to sign a contract with my phone or internet provider.
They had turned off my phone and internet service, they told me it was a mistake but they would rectify it. They said they would give me a free modem and the usb conector.
Consequently i recieved the products and then was billed for them as well as a delivery charge.
I had and am still ill with cancer, everytime thay ring they are told about this but the callers don't give a stuff !!!! The last caller has been warned that if they continue to harrass me they will be reported to the Telecommunications Ombudsman.
Who do they think they are ? These calls normally come from some call centre overseas. What is our Government doing about this problem, nothing. Mind you it wouldn't matter who was running the country, the problems will still be there.

These people (1300655020) have called me at least once a week for the last two months. Today it was 'Annie' who refused to give me a last name, and of course demanded my name and DOB before she could give me critical information I need, or I would have to face the dire consequences.. she told me she already has my name and DOB, she just needed to verify it. I gave her a fake name and number and she verified it was CORRECT.
I don't know who to call about this, I would never give any information to anyone on the phone, but I'm worried their are plenty of people that aren't quite as suspicious as me. This syndicate needs to be shut down.

These guys are a legit company as far as i know, I had a debt with Telstra so i called Telstra and asked them about Dun & Bradstreet, Telstra said they use them as their debt collection agency. Seemed odd since Tesltra could have easily sent me the bill in the mail. But yes Dun & Bradstreet were very personal an felt very untrustworthy when they called me repeated times asking for my DoB and address.

I received a call from this number regarding a Telstra Debt.  Telstra is obviously having billing problems with their new system as I had $500.96 charged in error to my account.  This was reversed and now there's a $ 326.00 bill out of nowhere and forwarded to the debt collection agency D & B.  Fortunately they are checking out with Telstra what it's all about as my account is always in credit!

I too had a dept with Telstra. The bills etc were sent to the wrong address and piled up for 4 months.  This debt collection agency wrang me and were able to give me my date of birth 'year' before I gave them the rest of my details to verify myself. Otherwise I wouldnt have given out any details to them.  They asked me if I wanted to pay now.  I said "No, I'll check with Telstra".  They gave me a reference number to use and Telstra's phone number to call.  Lots of sarcasm: It only took 45 minutes and 4 operators to find out the details from Telstra!  All seems legitimate.  I got the outstanting bills a few days ago and am yet to pay.  I have received 2 sms's like the ones mentioned above from the above number in the last few days but have not acted on them.
