Thanks for the post. It is to the letter of what happened to my elderly parents. They gave no credit card or banking info but completely lost everything on their computer, drivers and all. It was taken over by remote desktop and they lost everything. I live out of town and told them to immediately go to my sister's house next door and log in to all their accounts and change their passwords. They called their bank to place an alert as well as ebay and paypal.  Just hope they acted soon enough.  Scary!

Got call from this number today. I didn't answer and they didn't leave a message. I guessed it would be a scam and people on this site verified that. First call from this number but I'm guessing I will get more. ID said: Name Unavailable.

3/18/2013 6:53 pm Pacific time.  Received a call from 201-155-2012, Country: USA, Location: New Jersey (Bayonne, Jersey City, Union City . Male caller spoke English with Indian/Pakistani accent.  Said he was calling from Microsoft in Washington State because the "root certificate of my computer was about to expire".

I told him I would contact Microsoft during normal business hours and he hung up.  Suspect this is a scam to obtain personal information.

This number called on March 15. It was a very bad connection. The caller kept asking for some other company and then said that they had received my number attached to that company name from the internet and they could fix that for us. I told him I would look into it and take care of it myself and hung up. Sounded like a scam, not surprised now.

The next time he calls tell him that your computer IS turned on. But it's busy right now tracking his IP so you can send him a friendly little virus that will make his life much more interesting. I'm sure he'll thank you..right before he goes off on one of those famous Indian temper tantrums. They're always fun to listen to.

I keep receiving a call from this number and it is an Indian gentlemen who asks me to turn on my computer because there is a problem and he can fix it.  He never says a company name and he calls daily.  I have heard it is a scam.  I am reporting it and I am wondering how to block his calls.

Got a call from this guy with an Indian or maybe a fake Indian accent.  Said that there were error message reported to "windows" and wanted to walk me through keyboard instructions to clear up the problem.  I told him to send me an email of what to do because his accent was too strong.  He said he couldn't do that and hung up.  He had my name.

Prank Call
I have been getting a few of these calls. It seems to go in cycles almost daily to almost monthly. I've played various games with them. Not once allowing them any where near my computer systems. My favourite trick is to get a police whistle, you know the type high frequency.. Then a short sharp loud blast down the phone.

Now all I need to do is train my mum just to hang up on them

I have been getting this "OVERSEAS" thing for several years now, no one talks just silence then cut off. I get it several times a month.  So what I have done is put a fax machine on the line and when caller id comes up with "Overseas" we do not answer.  Just let the fax take it.  Seems to slow them down for a while but eventually happens again. I must say that I up to now never thought to type the phone number into the net and I must admit how wide spread these people are doing this and how many people are affected by it.

Got home at 12:05 am; ans mach was blinking -- listened to it -- sounded like someone humming.  I think I had this number call me before about my computer being infected -- told them at that time to give me a telephone number that I could call them back; they immediately hung up.  Feel badly for those who fall for this.

Caller with a strong middle eastern accent and very poor english stated that he was calling from the computer maintenance center.  He said my computer was infected with a virus that was calling the computer maintenance center phone number. He said I would need to give him remote access to my computer so he could remove the virus. I told him no and hung up on him. Prior to this there were eight hang up calls from this number over the past two weeks.

The caller has thick accent.  Called my parents who in turn gave them my number to discuss it with me.  They are giving people a website that will hijack your PC.  I believe they are preying upon 50+ year olds and I believe they are getting phone numbers through social engineering (facebook).

These people claimed to be from Windows, but they are not Microsoft.  Windows is a brand and not a company.  I did manage to chuckle a bit when I listened to him, even playing along acting all so scared and such.  Then after about 10 minutes I asked him if Ubuntu Linux was windows?  He hesitated and I told him I use Linux, he started to say something and I told him to stop scamming folks.

Same story 09:30 AM. The FTC will not take any action without a "significant" number of complaints. They will not say what makes a "significant" number of complaints. I suggest you do the following:

(1) file a complaint at
               https://complaints.donotcall.gov/complaint/complaintcheck.aspx?panel=2

(2) email or snailmail you congress-persons (Representatives and Senators) about the FTC's failure to enforce the Do-Not-Call list. Mention Donald S. Clark, Secretary of the Commission. This is the guy whose name appears on correspondence claiming they don't have enough complaints. (If you have a Republican, forget this step, their not interested in our problems or interested in accomplishing anything useful).

(3) call the FTC, Donald S. Clark, Secretary of the Commission at 1-202-326-2514.

Repeatedly receiving unwanted calls from this number, always a man with an Indian accent who wants to talk to me about "Microsoft Windows Program".  This happened a couple of months ago and I'd told the caller that we are on the "Do Not Call" list and was promptly hung up on.  ****SCAM****  Hang up and report!!!

I got a call from someone who had a thick Indian accent telling me there are serious warning errors on my computer.  I yelled at him to not call me anymore and yelled some more, so it made him hang up on me.  I hope he crapped his pants out of fear.
