The "Major Carriers" such as ATT and Verizon are the ones that sell huge blocks of phone numbers to middleman companies that in turn lease them to telemarketers. These "middlemen" also add the features required to spoof, "War-Dial", and make the number appear as disconnected when called back. This practice is not illegal yet, as the middlemen make the telemarketers sign an agreement stating that they will abide by the FTC Do Not Call List.
This is exactly why they do not "partner with" or provide the feature required for NOMOROBO to function (Answer Anywhere/Simultaneous Ringing). They feel that they would end up losing valuable revenue-producing customers. Their switch equipment is totally compatible and would allow these features to function, but they choose not to provide them to their customers as stated above. If you are in an area that has Time Warner, Comcast, or Cox services, I believe these carriers offer the proper features in all of their service areas. It also turns out that they provide virtually every "optional" feature that the major carriers charge for at no charge, along with unlimited calling in many cases. Just a suggestion.

There are several ways to block calls to your landline.
Your service provider may offer free or fee based services. I get 32 free blocks from Optimum. Not enough, but it helps.
Panasonic and others make phones that block up to 250 callers.
Digitone Call Blocker is a stand alone unit that blocks 1500 callers or entire area codes. You can block all area codes in the state of Washington where 75% of my calls come from. There are other similar units.
There are computer programs, but you have to run the calls through your computer and leave it running.
www.nomorobo.com is a free Internet service you can sign up for if your service provider is on their list. It started up in Sept. of 2013 after winning a contest by the federal government to bolster the inadequacies of the DNC Registry.

This will help you before you set up blocking. Set you voicemail to pick up on 5 rings. Telemarketers using robo dialers call in groups of 4. If someone picks up they drop the other 3 lines or they drop the line on 4 rings. That way your not getting their voicemail. It also keeps them guessing whether your line is valid since it wasn't picked up or sent to voicemail.

For your cell you can generally reject a call to a blacklist.
iOS 7 allows you to block callers. On iOS 6 and earlier you had to create a blacklist and collect those callers in that contact. I called it SPAM Callers. I set vibration to none for that contact and recorded silence for the ringtone. When my phone was called by a blacklisted # the screen would light up but that's all. If my iPhone was in my pocket I was never aware of the call.
Some cell providers allow you to go online to block callers. Check with your provider.
Hope this was helpful.

Will these people ever learn--we are on to them and have no intention of answering unidentified numbers; especially those callers who don't leave a voicemail i.e. they're not legit calls!

Forward phone to cell phone.

Create contact named *Bogus or whatever tickles your fancy.  The star puts it at the top of your contacts.

Update the contact with any number that you don't want to hear from.  Not sure how many numbers a contact can hold but you can make a bogus-1, bogus-2, etc If You need more.

Don't answer calls from *Bogus ... They'll probably stop calling numbers with no answer.

The woman claimed to be from an "energy resource" company.  She had my name.  When I told her not to call again, she said she WOULD call again even if I said not to.   I complained that she was calling before 9 AM and she repeated that she WOULD call again anyway.  She said I could not find out the name of the company or her name because my call would only go to a computer.

I tried both major carriers and STILL http://www.nomorobo.com DOES NOT partner with them. It asks that I call the carrier to request. Now I use 3 major carriers, Verizon, At&T and Sprint for work and business phones. HOW CAN THEY NOT be aligned with this service. arch!! I am going to sign up with youmail

These guys are scum suckers, where's that label on call type. Or Fraudster? It better describes them as this is below the rank of telemarketers.

Nomorrobo does not work with my carrier. I use Youmail.com for both land and cell lines. I ditch any number I find on the net as a boiler room or scammer. The next time they ring back they get "this number is no longer in service" just like they do. Never call these jerks back. Clue number one is getting that message when you do that they are scammers if you do call them.
I blocked this boiler room back in September. Just letting ya'll know they are just that. One big boiler room for whomever wants to hire them. They are illegal, yes. They do not abide by the DNC list and they are scammers, yes. It's a spoofed number.

Just got a call from this number.  It was a robo-call claiming that my debit card had been canceled, and to please press 1 to be connected to a help center.  I stayed on the line, but didn't press any numbers.  It disconnected.  I didn't recognize the name of whatever bank or firm they were claiming to be with; it was said too quickly at the beginning of the call.  Since my debit card is solely through my bank and has no credit card affiliation, this was nothing more than a phishing call.

Got a call from them told me that my credit card account was inactive, so I typed in every single one of my account numbers along with pins. None of them were the ones that had been inactivated. Interesting!

Received two calls today ,but since my phone company, At+T, supports NOMOROBO and I signed up....it rings once and then goes to a line that answers the call as blocked.  Several carriers partner with NOMOROBO.com and its free.

Out of state area code. Wanted to speak to my wife. "What's this in reference to?" I asked. It's about her mother.  "Someone took some money from her account, and we want to give it back."  What bank are you with?  "I'm not with a bank, I'm with a company."  Googled the number, and here I am.

Some jack leg in New Jersey is going to return $399 to an 86 year old widow in the south???!  Yeah, and the South won the war to.   Probably all he needs is her account number - ya think.

I don't tell them to take me off their call list etc.  I like to play with them, get them mad, and then where to go!
