Seems that it uses consumer credit to locate a phone number, but insists I acknowledge the name he is attempting to speak with is mine. I replied 3 times, " Why do you want to contact him"? Claimed to be 'John Perkins with Aegis. Must be collection, cant wait to ignore them now. We are having severe financial difficulties, and this is my only phone. Outsourced collection. Not related to my debts, however. Just fishing. Keep calm.

They have still been calling me since I made my 1st post back in Sept, I have been playing with them and keep telling them I am filing Chapter #7 but they dont care they want there money. The woman was getting pretty POed at me and I got under her skin and she started calling 4 or 5 times a day. They dont care I filed Chapter #7 they said I need to pay them, so after a few months I told her dont call me anymore and she said I will call you all day long. I told her I will block her number since I use Verizon Voice Wing its a Voice Over IP. SO I blocked her number and can still see she has been calling but it tells her that her number is being blocked, so today she calls me from her cell phone which is 0112012103618 and its from EGYPT - MOBILE. So now she is paying her cell phone bill to call me which I am sure is not cheap, I told her to hang on and after 5 minutes she hung up. hehehehe So I also have blocked her cell number, they just wont give up but I like playing with them.

I received a call from a man with a very heavy Indian accent.  He wanted to know if I knew Josh (unable to understand the last name) at 2109 address in my neighborhood.  I told him no, he became persistent and again repeated the address to inquire if I knew Josh - he lives on your street,in the same block.. correct??  Again I denied knowing Josh and finally told him that my phone number is on the DO NOT CALL List and he was in violation of the terms of that government enforced program and not to call my number again.  His information comes up as unavailable for the name, but displays the phone number 201-210-3618 on my caller ID.    Not sure what kind of scam he is up to, but obvioulsy this is some sort of a scam.

This number calls my house at least once a day.  The last two nights we have finally answered.  A heavily accented (undetermined origin- vaguely Indian, vaguely Asian...)man asked for someone named Dana ____ (same as my last name).  Last night my husband said they had the wrong number.  Tonight they asked for the same person, I asked where they were calling from, he said "Aigis" or something similar.  I said 'You have the ___ residence, but there is no one named Dana here and my husband told you the same thing last night.  Remove this number from your database immediately and never call again, especially after 8pm!' He actually apologized for bothering us, but we'll see if they call again!

What can you do if you believe a debt collector violated the law?
You have the right to sue a collector in a state or federal court within one year from the date the law was violated. If you win, you may recover money for the damages you suffered plus an additional amount up to $1,000. Court costs and attorney' s fees also can be recovered. A group of people also may sue a debt collector and recover money for damages up to $500,000, or one percent of the collector' s net worth, whichever is less.

Where can you report a debt collector for an alleged violation?
Report any problems you have with a debt collector to your state Attorney General's office and the Federal Trade Commission. Many states have their own debt collection laws, and your Attorney General' s office can help you determine your rights. The FTC works for the consumer to prevent fraudulent, deceptive, and unfair business practices in the marketplace and to provide information to help consumers spot, stop, and avoid them. To file a complaint or to get free information on consumer issues, visit ftc.gov or call toll-free, 1-877-FTC-HELP (1-877-382-4357); TTY: 1-866-653-4261. The FTC enters consumer complaints into the Consumer Sentinel Network, a secure online database and investigative tool used by hundreds of civil and criminal law enforcement agencies in the U.S. and abroad.

Can you stop a debt collector from contacting you?
You can stop a debt collector from contacting you by writing a letter to the collector telling them to stop. Once the collector receives your letter, they may not contact you again except to say there will be no further contact or to notify you that the debt collector or the creditor intends to take some specific action. Please note, however, that sending such a letter to a collector does not make the debt go away if you actually owe it. You could still be sued by the debt collector or your original creditor.

THE FAIR DEBT COLLECTION PRACTICES ACT
As amended by Pub. L. 109-351, §§ 801-02, 120 Stat. 1966 (2006)
As a public service, the staff of the Federal Trade Commission (FTC) has
prepared the following complete text of the Fair Debt Collection Practices Act
(FDCPA), 15 U.S.C. §§ 1692-1692p.

805. Communication in connection with debt collection
(a) COMMUNICATION WITH THE CONSUMER GENERALLY.
Without the prior consent of the consumer given
directly to the debt collector or the express permission of
a court of competent jurisdiction, a debt collector may not
communicate with a consumer in connection with the collection
of any debt—
(1) at any unusual time or place or a time or place known
or which should be known to be inconvenient to the
consumer. In the absence of knowledge of circumstances
to the contrary, a debt collector shall assume that the
convenient time for communicating with a consumer
is after 8 o’clock antimeridian and before 9 o’clock
postmeridian, local time at the consumer’s location;
(2) if the debt collector knows the consumer is represented
by an attorney with respect to such debt and has knowledge
of, or can readily ascertain, such attorney’s name
and address, unless the attorney fails to respond within
a reasonable period of time to a communication from
the debt collector or unless the attorney consents to
direct communication with the consumer; or
(3) at the consumer’s place of employment if the debt collector
knows or has reason to know that the consumer’s
employer prohibits the consumer from receiving such
communication.
(b) COMMUNICATION WITH THIRD PARTIES. Except as
provided in section 804, without the prior consent of the
consumer given directly to the debt collector, or the express
permission of a court of competent jurisdiction, or as
reasonably necessary to effectuate a postjudgment judicial
remedy, a debt collector may not communicate, in connection
with the collection of any debt, with any person other
than a consumer, his attorney, a consumer reporting agency
if otherwise permitted by law, the creditor, the attorney of
the creditor, or the attorney of the debt collector.
(c) CEASING COMMUNICATION. If a consumer notifies a
debt collector in writing that the consumer refuses to pay a
debt or that the consumer wishes the debt collector to cease
further communication with the consumer, the debt collector
shall not communicate further with the consumer with
respect to such debt, except—
(1) to advise the consumer that the debt collector’s further
efforts are being terminated;
(2) to notify the consumer that the debt collector or creditor
may invoke specified remedies which are ordinarily
invoked by such debt collector or creditor; or
(3) where applicable, to notify the consumer that the debt
collector or creditor intends to invoke a specified remedy.
If such notice from the consumer is made by mail, notification
shall be complete upon receipt.
(d) For the purpose of this section, the term “consumer” includes
the consumer’s spouse, parent (if the consumer is a
minor), guardian, executor, or administrator.
§ 806. Harassment or abuse
A debt collector may not engage in any conduct the natural
consequence of which is to harass, oppress, or abuse any
person in connection with the collection of a debt. Without
limiting the general application of the foregoing, the following
conduct is a violation of this section:
(1) The use or threat of use of violence or other criminal
means to harm the physical person, reputation, or property
of any person.
(2) The use of obscene or profane language or language
the natural consequence of which is to abuse the hearer
or reader.
(3) The publication of a list of consumers who allegedly
refuse to pay debts, except to a consumer reporting
agency or to persons meeting the requirements of section
603(f) or 604(3) of this Act.
(4) The advertisement for sale of any debt to coerce payment
of the debt.
(5) Causing a telephone to ring or engaging any person
in telephone conversation repeatedly or continuously
with intent to annoy, abuse, or harass any person at the
called number.
(6) Except as provided in section 804, the placement of
telephone calls without meaningful disclosure of the
caller’s identity.
. Section 604(3) has been renumbered as Section 604(a)(3).

They use American Express debt accounts.
Just play around with them and give them ridiculous information.  They told me I owed $5,500 and asked me how much I want to pay, I told them I like them and want to pay double, 11,000.  Confuse them back

I received a call from this number today, but it is just one of many bu***hit calls I receive several times a week. I have Call ID, so I don't bother answering the phone if I don't recognize the number and I sure as hell don't call the number back, especially if no one leave a message.

What I fail to understand is why people who have Call ID, answers their phone only to get some idiot on the other end, or a hang up. I would think that if you do that once and get those kinds of results, you are also an idiot for continuing to answer the phone when your ID shows 'Unavailable', 'Out of Area' or is a number you're not familiar with... unless you are lonely.

Once you answer the phone, you have made a connection and you will never get rid of them. Wise up folks.

Someone from Global Vantage 201-210-3618 calls at least twice a day.  When I have answered it they ask for someone who I don't know.  I have told them that person does not and has not lived here and to please stop calling.  I am now recording every call we receive from them and will start recording the calls when I am home to answer the calls.  In the meantime I am looking for who I can complain to so that I can get this stopped.  Any suggestions.

I have been receiving calls from this number on a daily basis.  Sometimes it is within an hour.  I keep telling them not to call me and take me off their list.  Finally today I think I got through to the guy.  Of course when I asked to speak to his supervisor whose name is Mike Smith, Yah Right.  And guess what?  Mike Smith was in a meeting.  Ricky Dawson who was the person that called said he would take me off his calling list.  We shall see.  As with all of you, this is very frustrating.
