Daniel from Cyber Support called and he gave me the same story as those above.  I did not give him any information. I told him I would check him out.  Their number was 201-234-4604,  How can these calls be stopped?

I got a call from Steven from Cyber Support.  It was obviously a scam.  The call back number he gave me was 201 234 4602 although the call came in from a 978 number

My first give away was his name, "Jerry Goom, spelled GOMEZ."  Pretty odd name for a man with a mideast accent. He was calling from New York, area code 201, which any dork knows is a New Jersey area code. He said Micosoft Windows hires his company to handle their error and warning windows update failures. Then he wanted me to go into event viewer to pull up error warnings. I told him I smelled a rat and had family who worked for Microsoft and I knew they do not do blind calls to scam people, then told him I was not going to pay a nickel to a company I did not know and he was not going to get into my computer virtually to import any viruses since I had my own IT guy on board who does all my computer work. I gave me a number of Cyber Support (201) 234-4604. Rats. Yes, of course I will report him to the authorities, but how many people have been caught by these crooks? Our news runs reports of them, but I suspect they hit elderly people who are not very tech saavy and fall prey to their crimes. They should be locked away in a place where they are not allowed to keep up with all the updates and tech changes so they can never do this to people again.

My mother got a call from 201-234-4604, telling her she had something wrong with her computer.  Man had a thick accent,  said he was calling from Cyber Support and his name was Ron Edwards.  Don't think so.

Have received many calls from Cyber Support.  Always a heavy east indian accent.  He told me they are a certified MSFT service support team.  They have received many alerts that MSFT updates are not able to install on my pc.  He told me to hold down the Windows key and the R key to see the problem alerts.  I told him the internet was full of alerts about this scam.  I asked for his phone number which, of course, he gave as 201-234-4604 - same as the number given to all the other posters above!
This call showed up on my caller ID as:  Cleveland TX  281-593-3503
When I called back it was a number out of service!

"Larry" has now transgendered to "Carol." He (or she, as the case may be) is too dumb to see how transparent the deception is.

They "safely solve the problems".  Well, that may be true, but you still have problems with the English language, don't you?   You should have paid more attention in  English Skills class while you were  in Secondary School.

By the way, would that have been in  Mumbai?  Kolkata?  Delhi?

Again - "independent" companies do NOT just call you out of the blue - nor can they know what's going on with your computer - unless they've hacked into it!  It's a scam - and most people are wise to it by now.

Another epic failure of the shill!  The only persons who should be touching your computer is you, your manufacturer, Real Windows support that you have called and/or maybe a real live tech you see face to face!

Yes, I'm sure they ARE "very nice" - for SCAMMERS!  Microsoft and its partners do NOT contact you about your computer unless you have called them first.

http://www.microsoft.com/security/online-privacy/avoid-phone-scams.aspx

Cybercriminals don't just send fraudulent email messages and set up fake websites. They might also call you on the telephone and claim to be from Microsoft. They might offer to help solve your computer problems or sell you a software license. Once they have access to your computer, they can do the following:

Trick you into installing malicious software that could capture sensitive data, such as online banking user names and passwords. They might also then charge you to remove this software.

Take control of your computer remotely and adjust settings to leave your computer vulnerable.

Request credit card information so they can bill you for phony services.

Direct you to fraudulent websites and ask you to enter credit card and other personal or financial information there.

Neither Microsoft nor our partners make unsolicited phone calls (also known as cold calls) to charge you for computer security or software fixes.

Telephone tech support scams: What you need to know

Cybercriminals often use publicly available phone directories so they might know your name and other personal information when they call you. They might even guess what operating system you're using.

Once they've gained your trust, they might ask for your user name and password or ask you to go to a website to install software that will let them access your computer to fix it. Once you do this, your computer and your personal information is vulnerable.

Do not trust unsolicited calls. Do not provide any personal information.

Here are some of the organizations that cybercriminals claim to be from:

Windows Helpdesk

Windows Service Center

Microsoft Tech Support

Microsoft Support

Windows Technical Department Support Group

Microsoft Research and Development Team (Microsoft R & D Team)

How to protect yourself from telephone tech support scams

If someone claiming to be from Microsoft tech support calls you:

Do not purchase any software or services.

Ask if there is a fee or subscription associated with the "service." If there is, hang up.

Never give control of your computer to a third party unless you can confirm that it is a legitimate representative of a computer support team with whom you are already a customer.

Take the caller's information down and immediately report it to your local authorities.

Never provide your credit card or financial information to someone claiming to be from Microsoft tech support.

What to do if you already gave information to a tech support person

If you think that you might have downloaded malware from a phone tech support scam website or allowed a cybercriminal to access your computer, take these steps:

Change your computer's password, change the password on your main email account, and change the password for any financial accounts, especially your bank and credit card.

Scan your computer with the Microsoft Safety Scanner to find out if you have malware installed on your computer.

Install Microsoft Security Essentials. (Microsoft Security Essentials is a free program. If someone calls you to install this product and then charge you for it, this is also a scam.)

Note: In Windows 8, Windows Defender replaces Microsoft Security Essentials. Windows Defender runs in the background and notifies you when you need to take specific action. However, you can use it anytime to scan for malware if your computer isn?t working properly or you clicked a suspicious link online or in an email message.

Will Microsoft ever call me?

There are some cases where Microsoft will work with your Internet service provider and call you to fix a malware-infected computer?such as during the recent cleanup effort begun in our botnet takedown actions. These calls will be made by someone with whom you can verify you already are a customer. You will never receive a legitimate call from Microsoft or our partners to charge you for computer fixes.

More information

For more information about how to recognize a phishing scam, see Avoid scams that use the Microsoft name fraudulently.

If you need help with a virus or other security problem, visit the Microsoft Virus and Security Solution Center.

To help protect against viruses and other malicious software, download Microsoft Security Essentials.

Windows 8 includes antivirus protection that?s turned on by default.

They are not from Microsoft, Windows or anywhere else legal. They are from India, using fake numbers to run the oldest scam on here.  They know nothing about our computers.  They don't know the ISP or IP address, nor do they know which version, if any, of Windows we are using.  In fact, everything they say is a lie.  They will use scare tactics and lack of computer knowledge to try and get remote access to our computers.  If successful they will install Spyware/Malware to steal personal information like bank details and passwords.  There is a warning about this scam on the Microsoft website.

Yes, same man from India called me and says he is calling from WINDOWS. I said why isnt microsoft calling me, and he says they just build the system and not the windows and that ID theft leak was detected by their system and my passwords are all over the internet.  He gave me his name as Damian or to call back Allistair Brown to go on line and get the fix by calling back to 201 234-4604.  Claims they are getting Hacking messages from my computer.   What the?

April 16th. Just received a call from this number by a guy with a heavy India accent telling me the sky is falling and my computer was transmitting stuff out over the internet. I asked him what and he could not tell me. He said something about cyber security etc and when I asked him his name he said it was Daniel Brown. If that is his name my name is Tinkerbell. I hung up.
