I wanted to share the latest press release from the FBI on scams

06/21/10?The FBI Newark Division released a warning to consumers concerning a new scheme using telecommunications denial-of-service (TDoS) attacks.

The FBI determined fraudsters compromised victim accounts and contacted financial institutions to change the victim profile information (i.e., e-mail addresses, telephone numbers, and bank account numbers).

The TDoS attacks used automated dialing programs and multiple accounts to overwhelm victims? cell phones and land lines with thousands of calls. When victims answered the calls they heard dead air (nothing on the other end), an innocuous recorded message, advertisement, or a telephone sex menu. Calls were typically short in duration but so numerous that victims changed their phone numbers to terminate the attack.

These TDoS attacks were used as a diversion to prevent financial and brokerage institutions from verifying victim account changes and transactions. Fraudsters were afforded adequate time to transfer funds from victim brokerage and financial online accounts.

Protection from TDoS attacks and other types of fraud requires consumers to be vigilant and proactive. In Newark?s Public Service Announcement (PSA), they recommend the following guidelines for consumers to protect themselves:

?Implement security measures for all financial accounts by placing fraud alerts with the major credit bureaus if you believe they were targeted by a TDoS attack or other forms of fraud.
?Use strong passwords for all financial accounts and change them regularly.
?Obtain and review your annual credit report for fraudulent activity.
If you were a target of a TDoS attack, immediately contact your financial institutions, notify your telephone provider, and promptly report it to the IC3 website at www.ic3.gov. The IC3 complaint database links complaints to assist in referrals to the appropriate law enforcement agency for case consideration. The complaint information is also used to identity emerging trends and patterns

The BBB in New Jersey denied my complaint because they do not handle this type of complaint.  Also I went to the fbi website and listened to the podcast regarding the "TDOS SCAM" .  When you receive these calls they already have your bank info and personal info.   They call to tie up your phone so your bank cannot call to alert you of fraud in your accounts. Contact your bank and alert them to make sure your accounts are secure.  Report them to the FBI online complaint form and the National Do Not Call List.

If this is a TDoS scam (c-FBI website), they got your banking info somehow and with that info, your phone no.  They call people to keep them on the phone while they rob your accounts.  When they start calling you, they already have your bank info! They may have already changed your contact info, email address etc. Be sure to alert your banks and upgrade your protection  !You can't call them back...they will NEVER answer.  This is a huge scam!.  Best advice....never answer calls that you do not recognize from New Jersey.

This number 201-285-8704 has been calling me from about 6:00pm to 9:00pm today, when I answer they just hang up. I dont know who they are, but i want them to stop calling me

This a** holes call my house like every 15 minutes if they call one more time I am going to file harassment charges started at like 7am the other day. Really getting pissed off here.

The name that comes up with that number is  Michel Manneh and I dont owe anyone. When I looked up the number it came back to NCO Finical using the name Michel Manneh...This need to STOP!

the calls from this most annoying # started 10/31/10 as we arrived from church, we're disabled people and this is truly making us sick. All I've found out until today is that the call comes from Bayonne, NJ.  We have had debt problems due to not being able to catch up with payments, but to harass seniors and disabled people isn't good at all. We should sue NCO if it is them.

I have read 2 scenarios ragarding this #.  One this phone belongs to one Michel Manneh.  It is a landline in Bayonne, NJ.  This call is regarding collections with NCO Financial and they are VERY cruel and relentless.  Two this robocalling is a TDos scam...Telephone Denial of Service.  The fbi podcast thoroughly explains this scam and the FBO website has good information also.  You can do an online complaint regarding this #.  In this scam these people already have your bank info and may have made changes to ur acct.  They keep calling to tie up ur phone so your bank can't alert you suspicious activity.  They use that time to clean our your accounts.  You need to call your bank and alert them if you believe this is the problem.You should also report them to the FTC and the Do Not Call List.

I am getting phone call every single day for the past 2 weeks from whom ever this person Michel Manneh (201) 285-8704

they are calling from the hrs of 7pm to 9pm daily mon -sunday
i have contacted my local police department and have suggested i contact the better business bural and report this phone number
the police have told me they do not know anything of the FBI  or any pod  cast information
Also they have recomended that i change my phone number through my local phone carrier but still that costs money and i feel i shouldnt have to pay , i am a victum of this person calling me , this is harrassment , even though they do not speak , they sit with dead air , silence is on the phone my last call i got from them i had told them i am calling the police , then they hung up also i could hear in the back ground other operators sounds kinda of like as if your were on the phone with a telamarketing company

i first found about this website here because a friendd of mine suggested i do a goole search on and about this person Michel Manneh so on page one of google is where i found everyone and theirs posts about this , im glad to know im not the only one that is a victum of this and others have gotten it as well

11-01-2010 at 3:30 pm and 4:58 pm som from 201 285-8704 has been calling my number. When I pick up the phone no one says anything.
Why isnt the FBI checking this out and putting a stop to this?

Go to the above website and listen to the FBI podcast the scam that you are involved in!  The TDoS Scam.  Very informative.  You are all victims as am I.

This is a FBI defined SCAM called...TDoS Scam or telephonic Denial of Service.  They want your credit card information so they can Clean Out Your Bank Accounts.  Go to www.fbi.com and read their warnings.  Put in an online complaint form.  Then report them to The National Do Not Call List.  And be sure to call your bank and beef up the security on your accounts.

calling anyone over and over and over is called "robocalling" and is illegal. Report them to the ftc and the national do not call list.

I've gotten calls from this number for the past 4 days. I just put my phone on silent and ignore them. But just last week, I was receiving the same repetitive calls from 609-853-0225. I looked up this 609 number and was led to these posts (http://800notes.com/Phone.aspx/1-609-853-0225) regarding TDoS scams.
I believe the calls from this new number (201-285-8704) may be affiliated with the same TDoS (Telecommunications Denial of Service) scam. Not surprisingly, both numbers are originating from New Jersey. I recommend learning more about this TDoS phone scam before answering these calls.

Hey Deanna, try 25 call in 10 minutes I just took my phone off the hook... this is crazy real crazy..I hope someone put a good lawsuite on this company.Teach them a good lesson. We have rights too.

you sure are correct you answer the phone and they dont say anything..but my experience today just takes the cake 25 calls in 10 minutes.

this number has called me three times in the past thirty minutes. No one is on the other line. dead silence. the last call i yelled i have reception stop calling and the line was terminated within 10 seconds. who the hell is this.?

This # called me about 15 times in one day. I blocked the # from calling, but now I'm getting a lot of blocked # calls.. I'd also like to make a formal complaint.

This number keeps calling. When I answer the phone, no one is there. It is soooo annoying. They have called 8 times in the past 90 minutes!! I know this is harassment, and I will contact the AZ State Attorneys office and file a formal complaint.
