For the most part, you are probably the person they want to reach.  If you failed to pay a debt and its been a long time, in many cases over 7 years, It should be wiped from your credit report as is the law so in reality its gone.  What they do is they will purchase the debt (which is not really the case of paying the bank or whoever the whole amount owed but 2 cents on the dollar hoping to collect whatever they can.  So they purchase the paperwork of the debt hoping to convince you they represent the original bank or whoever you did not pay, which they state or put on a letter sent to you,  even though the time frame for collecting the debt has passed (7 years) hoping to get you to sign or agree to anything so they can re-start the whole process over again and then they can put their claim on your credit report for another 7 years.  They are not trying to get you pay anything to give to the original company you did not pay.  The whole amount goes into their pocket.   You have to remember, if the bank or whoever you did not pay kept good records you probably gave them several numbers (parents, family members etc) to reach if needed.  So they now have these numbers and will call everyone to get you to give in and agree to work out some arrangement when you do not have to do anything with them.  The original company you did not pay wrote you off a long time ago and somehow probably got that money from the gov. in insurance coverage and also filing their taxes as a loss. They get it back somehow.  And considering if the Fed or Gov had to pay the tab, who cares.  We seem to be supporting everyone else in the world free of charge so why not you!  You paid some taxes at one point in your life so its only fair.  Just remember this company now calling you has no real claim over this other then they bought it from some other debt collector that tried in the past and gave up so now they are taking a chance.   Put your two year old on the phone with them when they call or just spend the extra bucks and get a new number and keep it unlisted.  Just remember when they call you have no idea what they are talking about and only send a letter stating I have no idea why you are calling me so stop.  Even if you remember the debt or you actually paid someone else a portion of it thinking it was now gone, if you put something in writing referring to it, it opens the door to them claiming you admit to it.  Never never send a letter unless you claim you have no idea what the heck this is about and stop calling.  And that's it.  Sometimes I read on sites people tell you to send a letter making a claim about the debt and stating its paid or whatever and those people are actually working for the debt collectors.  You can only hope there actually is a hell because if so, the guys at ASTA funding will be rotting in it.

I called the District Attorney's Office about this company.
Their recommendation was to first check to see if they are registered in the state to collect debt.
512-463-5770

Then they gave me a number where someone will research the law to see how old or how long a debt can be collected on
512-463-1722 Law Library

These people claim there is a debt from 1984..... they are collecting on.....that I have no idea what it would be..... so now I have to spend time on something that I am darn sure is not real....

I received a call from the same number - They left a message an ID number and Ref # - but this company gives no other information. besides that the same number is calling my mother in and the their message indicates my husband name and ID #  - odd since my husband lives with me for the last 20 years and we have no idea what this company is after.

This company is registered in Texas.

I called the Law Library and the law says that a bill collector has 4 years to file a law suit to collect a debt.

To get them to stop calling I will have to send a letter in writing....but I don't have to send them my signature....one of their collectors wanted it to compare....

I think this is really strange.... but to get them to stop calling.... I have to send the letter...

Phone call came in at 6:40pm, but they have tried several times earlier in the day (and previous days).  Very poorly recorded automated message from Palisades Collections leaving the same 800 call back as others have listed.  Didn't say who they were looking for, but I get these calls from different collection agencies ALL THE TIME.  They ask for several different names, but no one who currently lives here (or even has lived here for the past 10-15 or more years).  These collection agencies use a program (not helpful that I've forgotten the name of it, I know) that basically searches public records for any and all phone numbers and names associated with that person (who owes).  Even if the data is 10 or more years old, the collection agencies still use it to try to find the person.  I've tried reasoning with them (other collection companies).  They stop calling for a while then start again.  The last one (Green Tree out of Florida) I told that I was going to report to the Government for harassment and the guy got really ugly.  Not sure if he didn't do something to initiate all these other phone calls.  Until we write our congressmen and ask them to have this practice STOPPED, it will continue.  I don't think they are doing anything illegal (until you tell them not to call back), so I don't see that writing the state's Atty Gen will help.  Go straight to your congressman/woman!!

I will post for you the state this company is incorporated in.  It probably is New Jersey.
Most if not all states have their Attorney General's Office Complaint/Consumer Affairs interactive
forms online for people to register complaints.  I will re-post as soon as I am sure what state to report
these people.  It would be very helpful if all of you people file written complaints with me to shut this outfit down.  There are laws against their collection practices!

These people have called numerous times.  When we answer it is a recording with a phone # and Reference #.  Calling back does no good, nobody knows who these people are when they answer.  Will file a complaint with NJ atty gen.s office to see about putting a stop to this.

many calls; alleged debt agency;  call given number (1.800.414.8319) and put on hold; after 5 minutes I hung up the phone.  Called my phone company (Vonage) and they suggested changing the number.  They cannot block calls yet.  I do not owe anyone anything to be collected.  These are harrassing phone calls and need to be stopped.

These people keep calling asking for someone who hasn't lived here for 25 years! Very annoying, I call them back and tell them that person doesn't live here and demand they stop calling. I'm making a formal complaint to my State Attorney's Office.

Ignorance is bliss. ... It is time you go to school! The very toilet you sit your A__ on was invented by a black person... the refrigerator, and the air conditioner you used this summer came from the mind of a black man. The heart operation you will probably need in your lifetime was the idea of a black man.  The blood transfusion was from a black man. Should I go on!

and by the way, when you don't pay your bills, owe money, expect that someone will go after you... so rude comes with territory.

These people are invading and disturbing the serenity of my home and family.  I would never trade my family's comfort by investing in the very perpetrators of their discomfort--especially in light of there being many other investment vehicles that do not so offend.

I recently got this number and was unpleasantly surprised at the number of calls from strangers that have come in.  I called Asta Fund and thought I had convinced them it was not me they were looking for but the calls keep coming in.  I'm about to add them to the State and National "NO CALL" list.  If that doesn't put a stop to it I don't know what will.  Any suggestions?
