The guy who worked here before me subscribed to this Test & Measurement publication which I still receive. But the kicker is I've never renewed the subscription and he hasn't been here since '08. For free publications like this they usually call once a year to have you renew, however they keep sending it with no request to renew.

I have been getting calls from this number for a few months. They call multiple times a day.

It could be from a magazine subscription. It is annoying.

This number calls me at least evey other day, and usually twice daily on those days. Their robodialer must be broken, because they've been getting a "not in service" message from my number for months - I blocked them as spam in Google Voice after the first day.

I get two or three call from this number every weekday.  Various times - on into early evening.
After answering several times - nobody there - I started sending the call to voicemail.  The caller never leaves a message.

Now the caller is blocked as soon as the caller ID is received by my phone equipment.  The caller sees this as a hang-up.  Regardless, I still get two or three attempted call every day.

And this has been going on for many months.  My sympathies go to you who are getting these calls on your cell phones.  The calls are absolute harassment.

If you are considering legal action, please set up a website referencing this phone number ( 201-520-9537 ) so that we can submit supporting evidence of harassment by this caller.

I've gotten 2 calls a day from this number everyday M-F for the last 2+ months, on my cell phone.  The couple of times I've picked up no one is there and when I don't answer they don't leave a message.  It has seriously gotten out of hand, they should be sued for harassment at this rate.  Not sure if I can get the number blocked on my cell but I'm going to check into it today.

I have received a call from these total and complete idiots two to three times a day for at least a month. I placed a block on their call, but they just keep calling over and over and over and over. How do we stop this type of foolish harassment? This type of annoying business practice has become a plague in our society. This company needs to cease operations upon order of the FCC! PLUS, fine them millions!!!

Telemarketers for a trade publication that I don't need.

I used to answer and talk to them, with a frequency of once every few months.  Then when I stopped answering they call several times a week.  We screen our calls at home, and figure that if anyone really wants to speak with us they'd leave a message.  They don't.

Like you, I keep getting calls from these idiots, ON MY CELL PHONE, which costs me minutes, of course. I would like to threaten them with a lawsuit or invoice (at $50 per second) to see if they'd lay off.  Asking them to, nicely, doesn't seem to work.  Maybe I'll get cousin Guido to take a few of his boys over and have a little discussion with them!

Initially, this number called my new landline number at work asking for the person who used my number before me.  I sent their (the caller's) info to the person they were looking for and asked them not to call anymore.  After 4-5 more calls, each met with increasingly curt request from me to stop calling, they finally stopped. (on may 20, 2010)

Now they've somehow gotten a hold of my cell phone number, and I've asked them not to call.

I've never been a subscriber, so this isn't a renew request - it's cold-calling.

Received calls from this number many many times but never answered.  This time I did and it was an overseas call center offering a free subscription to EDN magazine.  I looked this up and found it's a magazine for electronics design engineers.  I told them I was not interested in this because I wasn't an Engineer.  Hopefully the calls from this number will stop now that I've talked to them and told them I'm not interested and couldn't use this magazine.  But somehow I doubt it.

Call the number request the name and to add ALL of your numbers to the do not call list.  We have two numbers that go to the receptionist so we had to be sure we added both.

Sorry, but it is not "EDN" magazine. It is "EDM" magazine and it stands for Electrical Discharge Machining. These machines are very accurate and most of the time are used to make tooling for stamping or punching metal operations. There are 2 types of machines, one that uses a very fine copper wire and another that uses a chuck of graphite. The operation is basically the same, the machine pulses very high electric current either through the wire or the graphite and it eats the metal away. (very slowly). Most times the operation is done under a bath of water, (or water treated with a chemical). So if your company does any kind of machining or metal stamping, they most probably have one or more of these EDM machines and someone in that department has signed up for the magazine or attended a convention, trade show or seminar and signed up for the magazine without even realizing it.

This caller is to renew the free subscription to a trade magazine.
They are NOT selling anything!!! They are calling to have you renew your free subscription. These magazines ARE NOT THE kind of magazines you buy at a store. These are for highly specialized content targeted to a very specific market. The magazine is free because the advertisers pay a lot of money to put an ad in them. But the entire process is based upon the concept that these free magazines are correctly delivered to the people that are in the same field and would use that product. In my case it is for a metal forming and fabricating magazine that I receive for free and once every 6 months or so they ask to renew the free subscription just to make sure I still want it or if someone else in my company may want an additional subscription. So this company gets paid by the magazine publisher and they also get a bonus for every additional professional they sign up. This company represents dozens of free trade magazines from Metal working to archery equipment to medical equipment to professional maintenance engineers, welders, landscapers, automotive, etc.
There are many places they can get your information. If they are calling you at work, then your company may have people in it that already get the magazine and you are considered a bonus sign up.
If you have ever attended a trade show or trade convention, then they buy your registration information and try to sign you up. If you belong to a union or a professional association, like a welding society, then they buy your info and try to sign you up.
I agree it can be very annoying!!!!
BUT!!!!!! If you fall into any of the above conditions, or if you have ever done business with any of the companies that may advertise in the trade magazine they represent, the Do Not Call Registry is completely useless!!!!! The law is very easy - ever done business with them or one of the accounts they represent and they can call you legally!
The do not call registry only prevents a company from calling names or numbers that are completely unknown to the caller and selected at random.

NOW FOR THE REALLY BAD NEWS. Because I do subscribe free to a number of these publications I knew that they will call me to do the renewal screening. I DO NOT DO THIS BUT, if I want to avoid the calls and I was a dishonest person, I would provide the wrong phone number when I sign up for the free magazine in the first place. That's when it gets real confusing because if you are one of the unlucky numbers that someone picked, then you are going to get all these calls and you will never know why.

The best way to stop them from calling is to answer the damn phone and talk to them. The calling number should be the same so save it in your address book and add the name "magazine" to it. This way you won't think it is a bill collector and not answer it.

I picked up, but no one was there.  Probably the same ones who tried to get information yesterday for a "Free publication subscription."  I called back and the automated answering machine said, "Alpha Technologies" and something about being a marketing company. I hung up.
