They have been calling for 2 years from wildly different area codes. I have told them repeatably that there is no one at the number by that name. They claim to have my social security number but will not give the last 4 digits.
I am referring this to my local and state Attorneys General but I really do not expect anything.
Do believe it is a scam of some kind. This could really scare someone-especially the elderly.

Political Call
Called the number back with the case number they gave our office for one of our employees.  Said he was summoned for a fraudulent charge, something like that.  Told the person who answered the phone to stop calling and he just hung up on me.  He sounded like an African American man and he didn't even answer the phone with a company's name.  I wanted to call him back, but I really do not want to waste my time.

Total scam!

Got the same call today. Never had a payday loan, but my ssn and other private info had been stolen and posted online a couple of years ago. That incident was reported to the police. These people might just be getting your info from the web, and that is probably where they got mine. Definitely not legit, don't give them any money. And block their number if you can. You might want to report it to your local police department so they can put in a report on it. Then if they call back, ask them to call your local police and reference the police report number.

Glad you are smarter than I was! I fell for this crap twice a couple years ago and finally woke up when I never got the promised documentation in the mail. It took me nearly $1,200 before I got smart. Unfortunately they think I'm an easy target now, but whatever. I ignore the calls.

Words of wisdom, Jenny, and all true.  I've been hit three times in 48 hours with the same general message, but via three different phone numbers: this one in New Jersey, one in Green Bay, WI, and one in Shreveport, LA.  I have a phone feature called "call rejection" that blocks them completely.  However, I wonder just what kind of phone network these moronic crooks have at their disposal?  I'm already sick and tired of putting these pukes on the rejection list.  A possible source of my info may be because I'm an Internet junkie, and order merchandise very frequently online.  It's just so easy for these <bleeps> to get your phone number!

While there is always that possibility, the scammers are getting info from people when they fill out the online forms now day's. There's also other methods they are gaining people's info as well.  I always recommend that people do a search on their name and number and that any place such as spokeo that shows up, make them remove the info and make sure any and all settings with such places as forums, FB etc are set to private.  Make sure your family members do so also.  I found one place that lists possible relatives. :(

Extortion Scam Related to Delinquent Payday Loans

Washington, D.C.
December 07, 2010  FBI National Press Office
(202) 324-3691

The Internet Crime Complaint Center has received many complaints from victims of payday loan telephone collection scams. Callers claim the victim is delinquent in a payday loan and must repay the loan to avoid legal consequences. The callers purport to be representatives of the FBI, Federal Legislative Department, various law firms, or other legitimate-sounding agencies. They claim to be collecting debts for companies such as United Cash Advance, U.S. Cash Advance, U.S. Cash Net, and other Internet check-cashing services.

According to complaints received from the public, the callers have accurate data about victims, including Social Security numbers, dates of birth, addresses, employer information, bank account numbers, and the names and telephone numbers of relatives and friends. How the fraudsters obtained the personal information varies, but in some cases victims have reported they completed online applications for other loans or credit cards before the calls started.

The fraudsters relentlessly call the victim?s home, cell phone, and place of employment. They refuse to provide any details about the alleged payday loans and become abusive when questioned. The callers have threatened victims with legal actions, arrests, and, in some cases, physical violence if they do not pay. In many cases, the callers harass victims? relatives, friends, and employers.

Yea, I just got that same bull Sh-t message, there is no way anyone can take away your rights except the supreme court, by changing the Bill of Rights. What ever you do, do not give them any person information about you or fall for the give me your credit card number and for this amount we can take care of this problem for you and get all legal matters dropped. FACT, if you have not been served by any legal authority then there are no legal matters to be drop. Also I can tell you if you ever had a payday loan with anyone, I promise you that is how they are getting your information claiming there is a NSF check against your name and if you are good, you may even find out from where,  it took me several calls to figure out that MYCASHNOW, which I did take a loan out some years back, has been sending out a made up NSF with all my information saying I owe them 200.00 dollars and interest for a NSF back in 2011. Fact, my bank does not think so. And MyCashNow takes money you owe them out of your bank account. I have all my statements and records. That is how they are trying to scram you.

Received a VM from this number, the woman said she was from a "processing and serving office" or something like that. No company name given, but its the same as all of these other scams" you will be served at your home or place of business, fraud charges linked to your name in your county.." blah blah blah. I'm not stupid enough to fall for it, no one calls and tells you that you waive your rights if you dont call them back. These people only make money by scaring the gullible. Don't fall for it
