Just got that same call, with a hang up, and had no idea who it was until I put it in google just to record it. Up popped this age, and darned if I hadn't cancelled my subscription Friday, after cancelling it last month!

I regularly receive calls from this number. I have not answered them, and have not received any voice mail.

Someone breathing, sounds like a pervert.

Despite receiving and calling back at the above number for FOUR months in a row and asking that I be excluded from further calls no fewer that FOUR times, I still receive unsolicited calls from this number. For the last two months, I've been receiving almost daily junk email encouraging me to be a subscriber to The New York Times. Would someone please wake "Pinch" Sulzberger, Jr., and put a stop to all of this unsolicited email and phone call nonsense. If it doesn't stop and when I'm next in New York City, I will stand outside your building, all day, attempting to sell copies of National Review magazine at half the newsstand rate. CAPICE Pinch? ! On the second day, I plan to show up at your New Jersey phone center, scam the personal numbers of those who place these calls, and judiciously pester them with unsolicited phone calls to their home and or personal cell number. CAPICE Pinch? Your excessively aggressive and unwanted solicitations by email and phone are obnoxious in the extreme! Okay, Pinch, do you understand what to do and what not to do? Until I can get to New York, Pinch, I'll be praying to your dad Punch, hopeful that, if only existentially, he might somehow influence you to bring your obnoxious and aggressive subscription efforts to cease. If it does continue, I will prostrate myself in Jewish mortification for a full day.

This was a legitimate call from the subscription department at the New York Times. My credit card number was recently stolen, so I had to cancel that card. I had forgotten that my NY Times subscription is automatically charged to my credit card, so I assume a payment didn't go through. The call I received had a terrible connection, and all I could hear was the word "credit card" before they gave up, but my phone showed the caller's number, so I Googled the number, found this Web site, and saw the comment that mentioned the NY Times. It's nice when a suspicious call turns out to be perfectly innocuous!

2nd time we've gotten a call from this number (I don't answer.) What I do find interesting though is that almost all the posts mention the NY Times. So if it's a scam, as one person suggested, then how are they getting the numbers of so many people who've recently cancelled their subscriptions?
We didn't pay by credit card for the weekend subscription we just cancelled (used good old-fashioned checks by U.S. mail instead), but in order to use the electronic version, you do have to give them a credit card #. Of course, we had called them to make this change, so we weren't responding to someone calling us, but given all the ID thefts recently, now I'm beginning to feel a little uneasy. The fact that someone is able to find out who's cancelled and then start calling those numbers, makes me wonder what other info they have access to.

Thanks so much. Yep, just cancelled our regular summer subscriptiont to the NYTImes. It IS annoying to have them call my cell and not leave a message. DUH. Not good customer service. But I so greatly appreciate your providing this info, especially after Hurricane Irene ripped through there.

Just here to confirm that I just canceled my NYTimes delivery, and subsequently missed a call from this number. Glad I could just come here and find out what it was.

Got a call from them today, first one, though. No message left. I just renewed my NY Times subscription after four years of not getting it, so I don't think these are really coming from the NY Times subscription office. There are lots of ways for scammers to try to get info by pretending to be who they're not, and this might be another example of that. Never give out CC info to anyone who calls you: always offer to call their office back, and be sure you are really calling the office, not a phone number the caller gives you. Crazy world it's getting to be.

I received a call from this number - the woman said hello, and then hung up.

This is the New York Times subscription number.
Itux 2011-06-06 20:41:19 Unknown
When answer, the guy told me that my credit information has to be updated, so I suppose it's a spammer or something wrong.

Went to voicemail and no message was left

Got a call from them this morning. Answered and no one ever came to the phone. I do have a NY Times subscription, so not sure why they are calling.
jke 2011-03-11 01:13:23 Unknown
this number has NOTHING to do with the NY times. i just called customer service at the Times to follow up after a call from an extremely rude obnoxious man calling from this number. I would never give my credit card info out to someone who is just calling me. if you have a question about your NY times account, i suggest that you call their customer service number directly 1-800-698-4637, which i did to make sure. this is a scam.

Interesting how this thread is still valid even after 4 years since it started. Thanks for the info - I have added them to my address list and will be rejecting future calls.

You are assuming the caller had a scrotum!
ticked off 2011-01-29 18:09:19 Unknown
got a call bright and early in Honolulu this Saturday morning. if I find out who it is I will have my dobermans chew his scrotum off.
martin 2010-12-07 20:03:45 Unknown
I can always tell if it is a telemarketing call by the several second delay when I answer. I just say "wrong number" when they get on the line. Found out from this site it was the NY Times, which I do subscribe to.

Just cancelled my NYT subscription. Did not answer.

Received a call from this number. Caller hung up right after I answered. I DO subscribe to the NYT, but currently only for a limited time special. I would really appreciate knowing who is calling me! THANK YOU!

Just got a call from them too, and I'm on the no call list. I already subscribe to the weekend Times!

Found this forum like everyone else. I canceled yesterday (Sunday) and got a call today (Monday). Like grytpype I called "customer care" at 800-698-4637 (choose option 5, and pound 0 several times until you are told you will be connected to a rep.).
Me: I want to be added to the "do not call" list
Rep: you want to be added to the 'do not contact' list?
Me: Yes
Rep: Number?
Me: xxx-xxx-xxxx
Rep: OK, you have been added.
We shall see. I was just over being irritated by them. Thanks for pissing me off again, NY Times!

Cancelled my NY Times Sunday delivery yesterday, got a call today. Disconnected as soon as I said "Hello". Found this page via a google search.

I just saw this number pop up on my cell and immediately performed a search and found this site. Lo & behold, I cancelled my Weekend subsription last month. Notice they billed me again and called this past Tuesday. They said they will refer this to a supervisor and I should be getting a refund in a few weeks. The intergrity of the journalism has degraded and then they upped their monthly rate for the second time in less than two years. No Thanks!
