I keep getting calls from this number. I only owe medical bills and a credit card bill, so there is no reason whatsoever for me to continue getting calls from this number. It is not legitimate, not to mention that the callers have no knowledge of the english language.

Called several times to my cell phone and work # saying there was a "legal matter" that they needed to talk about. Even going as far as saying I could be arrested. They had my address, date of birth and social security #. When I asked what the legal issue was they evaded the question and at one point even hung up on me. Everyone that got on the phone was obviously of Indian decent and could not speak English very clearly. You could hear a lot of commotion in the background (like mulitple talking on other phone lines).

Omg!! Scam. Same tactics. With my son, they said pay $150.00 today,to satisfy a $300.00 debt for some
So-called loan.  If we don't pay it will turn into $7000.00
With court costs.  Asked for "Proof of Debt", the legal term for prove it
Suddenly they don't want to talk to me anymore!!  I said I was an attorney and they hung up. Not really an attorney but any legitimate collector knows the law. Unbelievable!!!

I got calls from this number at home and at work. Someone named Peter Black stating he was an attorney from some law office stating I owed money from a payday loan...I never took out a payday loan but had applied for one but never went through with it.
At first I didn't know anything about these scams and they had me so worried and I didn't know what to do. Then I found these websites after searching on their so called websites and found out the were using names of legitimate companies but found some posts about them using their sites illegally and to be aware of these scammers.

I know the place I applied must've sold my information to these scammers because that's when all the calls started, right after I had applied. They call my work but a good thing the secretaries take the calls and I let them know what's going on. Now I don't call them back, I look up theirs numbers online and sure enough they are all scammers!

I did file a complaint with this number to the Federal Trade Commission and they did stop calling me and hopefully this is the end of it but now I'll know what to do next time.  From what I heard on the World News on TV, the FTC has been getting a lot of complaints about these loan scammers so maybe they wil finally get something done about it!

Yes, I received 4 threatening calls today after I thought all this was done a month ago.  Today two calls from 201-806-1709 and two from 585--797-6479.  All are foreigners claiming to be from Dept. of Law and Investigation and claim all issues on my name and SS# can be resolved by me calling back immediately.  I see by other reports that nothing can be done according to government and attorneys.  I think by the end of the week, I'll call my phone company and see about a new number, since there seems to be nothing I can do.  Just as others have posted here, I am sick of receiving these calls and want it to stop.

Prank Call
I started getting these phone calls several months ago and like Nicole they had all my personal information and called my work, etc. Tried to get my boss to fire me, well little did they know that my boss has a relative who works for FBI, so we filed with all the proper authorities, and all the jump through the hoops bull. Closed my accounts, etc. Changed my cell number the whole nine yards, well yesterday this mf started up again, they also call from 9176282494 and they even try to block their numbers,(think they can be slick). I called my cell company and had both of these numbers blocked, so now they started calling me at work again. But they have my old account information so they bought old info from somewhere. With all our technology, why can't we catch these low lifes, they are making my life a living hell. I have called all the necessary authorities, filed report after report and get the same answer, they are not here in the united states and there is no way they can get them. So in the mean time all my coworkers are having fun with them and really asking them some crazy questions, which they gets so flustered and hang up cussing them out. So all we can do is keep pissing them off and maybe they will get the hint, they are messing with the wrong country and to go out and get a real job. AH

Claimed to be Oak View Law Group.  Even gave me a website, www.ovlg.com

Said I, along with 2 references, was being sued.  Threatened to have the agents come and arrest me and "my 2 references."

Said they were a California-based company operating out of Nevada.  With a 201 area code?!  Little did they know I used to live in the 201, in NEW JERSEY.

To confirm they are who they say they are, I asked them simple questions for anyone in our country who pays the slightest attention to politics, like "who is the current Secretary of State?"  Naturally they could not answer.  They are simple minded fraud con artists who crack if you lead them off of their script in the slightest.  I pissed one of them off (he calls himself Simon Simmons) so much by asking simple questions, he called me a "motherf***er" as he was hanging up, lol.  Ah, I may not be able to stop the calls, but at least I can get a kick out of driving them crazy right back.  That is at least until I get my number changed, which will be my next course of action.

I'm feeling like Liam Neeson right now in 'Taken,' ready to fly over there and shut their operation down, lol.

Hello, here is the thing about my phone call, the guy states his name as officer Stanley Dunn, he gives a speal about being arrested and for me to have my attorney contact him. The thing that scares me is that this guy stated my Full soc sec #, and my Full bank name and Acct number, how???. I have alerted my bank, I have also put a fraud alert on my ss number with the s.s. administration, the major credit bureaus, and filed a complaint with the Federal Trade Commission, I would suggest anyone who has been receiving these calls do the same, especially if they had persona, private information of yours that you did not give them, like in my case...

I have received so many of these calls from this number and they have even resorted to hacking into numbers that I know to get me to answer numbers like my husband and my work so do not be fooled if you are at work ask if someone was calling because I do not know how they are doing it but they are. They have resorted to calling me like 15 times from today alone but most of the time it is 3 or 4 times and will hang up if you try to get information from them.

I have been gettting messages from this number normally I just delete it but for some reason I listened to the messages, four from today alone, he said he is from some department of law enforecement and that I was involved in a criminal investigation and that if I did not call him back right now, I would be in big trouble and worse and then stated that he would send officers to my home and arrest me.  I was angry as helll hearing some dude who can speak english and probably isn't even from here leaving me threaten messages, before I called back, I decided to look up the number found this and all these messages, and I am grateful.  Thanks for the input and links... greatly appreciated it, already filled out the form for our State Attorney General offices and FBI.... not sure what will be done but maybe just maybe they can do something.

The Internet Crime Complaint Center has received many complaints from victims of payday loan telephone collection scams. Callers claim the victim is delinquent in a payday loan and must repay the loan to avoid legal consequences. The callers purport to be representatives of the FBI, Federal Legislative Department, various law firms, or other legitimate-sounding agencies. They claim to be collecting debts for companies such as United Cash Advance, U.S. Cash Advance, U.S. Cash Net, and other Internet check-cashing services.

According to complaints received from the public, the callers have accurate data about victims, including Social Security numbers, dates of birth, addresses, employer information, bank account numbers, and the names and telephone numbers of relatives and friends. How the fraudsters obtained the personal information varies, but in some cases victims have reported they completed online applications for other loans or credit cards before the calls started.

The fraudsters relentlessly call the victim?s home, cell phone, and place of employment. They refuse to provide any details about the alleged payday loans and become abusive when questioned. The callers have threatened victims with legal actions, arrests, and, in some cases, physical violence if they do not pay. In many cases, the callers harass victims? relatives, friends, and employers.

Some fraudsters have instructed victims to fax a statement agreeing to pay a certain amount, on a specific date, via a pre-paid Visa card. The statement further declares the victim will never dispute the debt.

If you receive these calls, do not follow the caller?s instructions. Rather, you should:

Notify your banking institutions.
Contact the three major credit bureaus and request an alert be put on your file.
Contact your local law enforcement agencies if you feel you are in immediate danger.
File a complaint at www.IC3.gov.
Tips to avoid becoming a victim of this scam:

Never give your Social Security number?or personal information of any kind?over the telephone or online unless you initiate the contact.
Be suspicious of any e-mail with urgent requests for personal financial information. The e-mail may include upsetting or exciting but false statements to get you to react immediately.
Avoid filling out forms in e-mail messages that request personal information.
Ensure that your browser is up-to-date and security patches have been applied.
Check your bank, credit, and debit card statements regularly to make sure that there are no unauthorized transactions. If anything looks suspicious, contact your bank and all card issuers.
When you contact companies, use numbers provided on the back of cards or statements

they call both my phones daily and leave threatening messages...says name is : Officer Stanley Dunn from Dept of Law and Investigation . I dont answer so messages are for me or for someone with unfamiliar name.  Hard to understand parts of message per "officer dunn"'s accent. Glad I checked here before I almost called from curiousity.  Are these people working for collection companies or just outright scammers?
