Im on a do not call list and received this call, claiming I won $9000, and they wanted my bank acct number

This morning I received a call from this number. They asked for my 5 month old son saying they were from Washington D.C!! All I said was excuse me and they hung up. The man that called had a very heavy accent and spoke so fast that I could barely make out what he was saying.

This is a criminal extortion scam operating out of India. They are making the calls utilizing VOIP and the names of legitimate firms to make it appear the calls are originating from within the US. There is NO "company" or "debt" and you will NOT be arrested. They are harvesting and/or buying consumers' personal identifying information from unscrupulous websites like the one you may have filled out an application with, and you need to do whatever you can to protect yourself. This includes: Notifying the FTC: https://www.ftccomplaintassistant.gov/, placing fraud alerts with all three credit bureaus, notifying your bank and employer and letting these criminals know you are aware they are attempting to extort money for a non-existent debt and have alerted the authorities.

I am on the "do not call" registry. This number is calling and from what I research, it is a possible scam trying to get account numbers. Please help.

I just received the same call from the same number. Do they think we are idiots? lol  No info was given by me. As a matter of fact he hung up on me! How rude!   Hahahahaha!   202-210-0054 was the number

Received a call today from CHARIE at the US Government Dept of Grants. I asked for the address and was told they are located at 103 N. Flott (Floth?) in DC. He says I took out a loan on Dec 16, 2013 for $10,000 and he wanted to know when I would pay it back. I gave him a date of Dec 16 2030 - he was not happy. Then the threats started. He said they would take drastic action against me if I didn't pay. I asked for documentation, and he said he would bring it to me personally. Before I could tell him Mr. Smith and Mr. Wesson would be happy to look it over - he hung up.

so far I have received 9 calls from this number in the last 4 hours.  luckily my cell phone has a feature to block all unknown numbers.

I received a call stating that they work with the government with the OFAC. Believe it to be fraud.

You'd better call (better yet, go in person) your bank first thing Monday and get it all changed.

Wow I'm so glad I didn't send that guy any money, because he just hit me with the same lies smh I gave him my bank info as well , which was very stupid of me

Exact same spiel with me...had to ask him to repeat himself just to understand him. He had a very thick accent. Told him I wasn't interested and he immediately hung up. I am already on the "do not call" list and it still came through. Pretty sure it's a SCAM...beware!

Got a call today on cell from this number , it was a male with an extreme accent. I told him I could not understand one word he said and not to ever call my phone number again and then I hung up. After I thought about it I really should not have answered.

Same call here on my cell phone.  I listened to the pitch, and agree regarding the likely ethnicity or nationality of the caller.  I told him I was calling the FBI to report the call and that I knew I was a scam, etc.  He replied in an accent that would've worked in a Jack Ryan movie "I am not afraid of your FBI."  I don't know whether these scammers ever get caught.  Most likely not.  The "Do Not Call" list is essentially useless.  I get so many solicitations each day on my home phone that I've given up on it and now just leave it on fax. Sorry to rant, but then "I'm mad as hell and I don't intend to put up with it anymore."  Ya-da, ya-da.
Next time I'll hang up earlier and keep my blood pressure numbers down.

I get lots of calls from folks representing themselves as US Treasury employees offering me a $9000 grant because of my good credit, no arrests, etc.  Always someone with who English is obviously a second language.  I keep telling them to take me off their calling lists, but the calls continue, sometimes as frequently as 4 or 5 per week.  Anything I can do as this is really annoying.

Just Called - I did not answer

A guy called me from 202-666-3389 and asked me to give him my walmart card number with a zero balance and then told me to call Anna Moore at 202-470-3389. She insisted that if I pay a one time transaction fee of $240  the government would deposit $8400 into my acount today.

These are scammer/extortionists working out of India.

About the only thing you can do keep on blocking them.

Just got this call today...........$9,000 grant.......repeated twice........I said, "and who are you?" to which he replied "Adam" in a strong Indian accent. I hung up and blocked the number. Wish I had been quicker on my feet and would have told him I had all the money in the world and he could have it since he has nothing better to do than call people with this crap!

I got a call from this Anna Moore suppose to be a Government Grant then I asked my Wife had she ever had to pay for a Government Grant and she said no then it dawned on me this is a scam with a Capital S.

Seriously? These calls date all the way back to 2013 on this forum and these scammers are still at it?

Are you telling me some level of law enforcement can't catch this individual(s) who have been using this same number for this long?

I have received several calls from the 202 area code.  I continue to add them to the blocked number/ reject list on my phone.

Is there anything else we can do?  Can we not report them to a government agency?

Today this number called, very heavy "Nigerian" accent.  Told me he was with the Federal government and when I asked who specifically he wanted to talk to and what was it about he said he wanted to talk to the owner of that number - and I have won a sweepstakes prize with the federal government, as if the heavy accent wasn't enough of clue, the fact that he didn't know my name!  I said I actually am a Federal Law enforcent employee that I would love to initiate an investigation into his scam - he hung up!  Ha!

i recently got a phone call from(202)210-0054 but no one answered the phone

just received the call, offering me $9k of free grant money, no strings attached.  i answered the cal because it was a DC area code (i work for the fed gov't and they were calling me on my gov't issued work cell phone).  i listened, waiting for the hook... when i asked how did i quailfy for this grant, he spouted off several categories (he has a very broken accent, like a bad movie, eastern eurpoean dialect). when i indicat that i did not qualify under any of these categories.... click....  oh, he says "ok" a lot (like after every sentence)

A lady call my cell and told me that she i s gonna add money to my bank account.cause the fedral goverment is giving grant she ask about my bank,credit card account number she sound like Asian.

I was called today, female with strong latino accent. Phone sounded like it was a transferred overseas call. After we argued about her fake call she threatened to send the gov. police to my house for harassing her. She had a $9000 check for me and I was picked at random to receive a grant. Gotta love it!

Received a call from this number saying I was selected to receive a grant from the government for $9000.  

Just got the government grant call. Same as the rest. I said no and he hung up. Guy said his name was John Smith. Yeah, right.
