We got a call from this number 202-239-2603 a Saturday morning.  The guy said he was from the Department Treasury's Investigation section and was looking for Z R (initials only here, but he had a full name).  This person is not in our household.  Then, he asked for M R (my husband).  What I wanted to know was why ZR and MR were named in the same "paper," as the caller was claiming.  Not a chance, and it was a sure sign of this being a fraudulent call.

They called my house and said the police is on the way because of tax fraud. They called again from a different number with the same area code with the same story. Once I told them off they hung up. By the way they are Indians. Like the United States government only employ Indians.  Haha

Got 2 calls from these guys - 202-239-2603 and every time I would answer they would hangup. I guess they were expecting a lady or an answering machine.

I called them back then they asked me to confirm my phone number and then said "yes, I have your file here" and said my full name and address. Anyone can google my name and find my address, my job and most of my career is on LinkedIn.. shocker.  Then when I asked the reason for their call, they came up with the long silly title "Crime and Investigation office working for the treasury", I couldn't resist and started laughing and then they hung up. I opened a beer and called again, I was ready to have some fun at their expenses, but as soon as they identified me they hung up. I guess I am not their kind of target.

By the way....have you ever seen federal workers answering phones on a Friday at 6:45pm?!! I would be delighted if they gave us this much in return for our tax money...but then nobody would ever want to work for the gov.

I had the same thing claiming that I did not reply to the IRS in due time and that an agent from the NSA will come to my house to investigate me. I said I already dealt with the IRS with no issues and I have all paper work in order. They said they will get back to me. Haven't heard anything yet. The IRS website says that the only way one would receive such notices is via US postal services.!!!!

I too received such a threatening call from these jerks.
Law Enforcement should arrest them wherever they happen to be.  Even if they operate out of India, isn't there an extradition treaty with that country ?

Parker William Smith with an obvious Indian accent.

Asks to speak to me by name; however references a old last name (changed it 2 years ago). References case # CM100144; I ask him "what do you want me to do with this number".

He responds with "Take it down, its for your reference, starts telling me that they mailed the instructions to.. " starts stating a 10 year old address... I cut him off, I ask for his federal ID; he has no idea what that is, then says that my voice is breaking and not clear.

I ask him if he is a federal officer or a federal employee, he says yes; so I ask him for his id again, he gives me a "in that case the number is 11899" he tells me his phone number again., 202-239-2603.

I've received scam calls before and its obvious to spot one; I've dealt with IRS too, and they don't call you :) they send you a fedex or ups envelope where a signature is required! I've also dealt with officers, federal, criminal, etc. and once you work with a few, its obvious when you are talking to anyone with such a background.

anyway, obvious scam., id love to see the letter they send... but I'll never get it., if they call again., ill play stupid if I have time. Hopefully these are as entertaining as the ones from Nigeria who want to give me a billion dollars..

These people scared my mom half to death, telling her she had to pay around $1200 or they will send the police to her house within 2 hours for taxes she owed. Luckily, she got a hold of me and I told her it was a scam. These people prey on older people and immigrants and should be in jail!!!
It is a scam!!!!

I just received a phone call today on memorial day, which is a holiday. The number was 202-239-2603. The caller had an Indian accent and seemed professional. He claimed he is from the Internal Revenue Service (IRS). He asked me to pay $1,200 for mistake in my 2011 and 2012 taxes or the police will show up on my door step within two hours. The caller knew my name and address. He also provided me with a case number. Things seemed to be legit and I fell for it until he asked me to pay over the phone immediately. I asked him to mail me some kind of documentations to prove his claims. He refused and demanded me to pay. This is a scam people. Do not provide them with any personal information!

Total scam.  More here:

WASHINGTON ? The Internal Revenue Service today warned consumers about a sophisticated phone scam targeting taxpayers, including recent immigrants, throughout the country.

Victims are told they owe money to the IRS and it must be paid promptly through a pre-loaded debit card or wire transfer. If the victim refuses to cooperate, they are then threatened with arrest, deportation or suspension of a business or driver?s license. In many cases, the caller becomes hostile and insulting.

?This scam has hit taxpayers in nearly every state in the country.  We want to educate taxpayers so they can help protect themselves.  Rest assured, we do not and will not ask for credit card numbers over the phone, nor request a pre-paid debit card or wire transfer,? says IRS Acting Commissioner Danny Werfel. ?If someone unexpectedly calls claiming to be from the IRS and threatens police arrest, deportation or license revocation if you don?t pay immediately, that is a sign that it really isn?t the IRS calling.? Werfel noted that the first IRS contact with taxpayers on a tax issue is likely to occur via mail
Other characteristics of this scam include:
Scammers use fake names and IRS badge numbers. They generally use common names and surnames to identify themselves.
Scammers may be able to recite the last four digits of a victim?s Social Security Number.
Scammers spoof the IRS toll-free number on caller ID to make it appear that it?s the IRS calling.
Scammers sometimes send bogus IRS emails to some victims to support their bogus calls.
Victims hear background noise of other calls being conducted to mimic a call site.
After threatening victims with jail time or driver?s license revocation, scammers hang up and others soon call back pretending to be from the local police or DMV, and the caller ID supports their claim.
If you get a phone call from someone claiming to be from the IRS, here?s what you should do:
If you know you owe taxes or you think you might owe taxes, call the IRS at 1.800.829.1040. The IRS employees at that line can help you with a payment issue ? if there really is such an issue.
If you know you don?t owe taxes or have no reason to think that you owe any taxes (for example, you?ve never received a bill or the caller made some bogus threats as described above), then call and report the incident to the Treasury Inspector General for Tax Administration at 1.800.366.4484.
If you?ve been targeted by this scam, you should also contact the Federal Trade Commission and use their ?FTC Complaint Assistant? at FTC.gov.  Please add "IRS Telephone Scam" to the comments of your complaint.
Taxpayers should be aware that there are other unrelated scams (such as a lottery sweepstakes) and solicitations (such as debt relief) that fraudulently claim to be from the IRS.
The IRS encourages taxpayers to be vigilant against phone and email scams that use the IRS as a lure. The IRS does not initiate contact with taxpayers by email to request personal or financial information.  This includes any type of electronic communication, such as text messages and social media channels. The IRS also does not ask for PINs, passwords or similar confidential access information for credit card, bank or other financial accounts. Recipients should not open any attachments or click on any links contained in the message. Instead, forward the e-mail tophishing@irs.gov.

More information on how to report phishing scams involving the IRS is available on the genuine IRS website, IRS.gov.

It's a scam.  If the IRS or Treasury Dept needed to get in touch with you, they would send you a letter via USPS mail.  Please do report your caller to the real IRS at www.irs.gov.

I got 3 messages from this number yesterday claiming to be from the Tresury Inspector's Department Tax Admin claiming that a warrant had been issued for my name and address.  However red flag #1 was that in one of the messages the guy at first said he was Mickel Delgado and towards the end of the message he said his name is Brian Allen.  These guys obviously lie so much they can't remember what name they use.  So I got one line to research the phone number only to find my "case id" or "warrant id" number CM100144, posted about by someone else - red flag #2.  This is obviously a scam.  The other names they used were Jim Marshall and Jay Evonic.

I just got the same message and was about to fall for it when I called my husband he yelled to hang up and call the police. I did, the police came and told me this is a scam and thank goodness I did not give them any money. Frightening stuff they really scared the wits out of me, not for any wrongdoing but because they claim that I have sent money overseas, which I did, and did not pay the Patriots Act fee of 12-1/2 upon sending the money and 6-1/2 upon receiving the money and that Homeland Security and the IRS were tracking US citizens for this type of activity as it's considered money laundering. Incredible the length these thiefs will go to get money out of decent citizens.
