Prank Call
Received a message on my cell phone from a person with a thick accent saying this call if for (my full name) from a person calling himself Senior C.I. Officer James Price from some company, sounded like Tex Cline Investigations and something about an arrest; he said word-for-word "the reason for the call is that I have been listed as a primary suspect in a case being filed by the IRS; needed me or my attorney to return the call before they proceed further with any steps against my name; if I failed to return the call, they would not be responsible for any consequences that I may face in my future; goodbye and have a blessed day."  Since my professional background in the past 30 years has been in the legal field and law enforcement, I knew this was a scam.  If there was any investigation by the IRS, they would contact you by certified letter.  I hope no one falls for this.

Someone called me from 202-239-7073. Such an idiot. He didn't speak English very well and tried to convince me that the IRS was initiating an investigation on me for fraud or something like that. I plainly told him once the IRS reach out to me, i will then retain a lawyer. He hung up.

Ditto the below.  I did not answer my phone, not knowing the incoming number.  Message left said the person was calling from the investigation unit from the IRS and I was under investigation.  To be honest -- after that I did not listen to the rest of the message.  Blocked # now on my phone.

Received a call from this number claiming I hadn't paid taxes for 2009-2014.  I told him he was a liar, and that 2014 taxes were not yet due, and I called the IRS, and was given a web address and 800 number to report these type of calls.

This number has called me (Unknown Name).  I check the caller ID, did not  answer.  It seems over the past couple of months I have received way too many calls from unknown/unavailable numbers.  We have our numbers on the Do Not Call List but it does not seem to be working.

I also received a call from this number & there were a lot of similarities in my phone call as many others have posted. Once I informed the guy I'd contacted the IRS directly he tried to tell me he was calling from the IRS his name was Marshall & asked to speak to my attorney. I asked him who was he really because the IRS already informed me that I was not under investigation.  then he hung up!

I received a message on my answering machine saying there was an investigation case being filed against me by the IRS. He sounded very foreign and it was hard to understand what he was saying, at the beginning of the message. He tried to tell me either where he was calling from (company) or maybe he was telling me why the IRS was investigating me.  But then he said that I needed to call back at 202-239-7073 before any legal steps were taken against my name. If I failed to return the phone call that they are not responsible for any consequences that may happen in my future. Called local Police station and they advised not to call them back. Found out this was a scam.

This guy called me stating I owed the IRS $817 dollars and if I did not pay the local sheriff would be on my door with a warrant for my arrest....I hung up and called my local IRS office and was informed that the IRS would never call and threaten you with jail and several notifications by mail would come first.

Just got a call from this number claiming to be an agent for the IRS (of whom I could barely understand). After a lengthy transfer time someone who sounded very much like the first individual (and as difficult to under stand) read an affidavit of charges supposedly being filed by the IRS. After letting him run through the list most of which I did not understand only picking up on things such as being arrested within 45min of ending the call and spending 180 days in jail I hung up. They actually tried called back from the same number. Definitely a scam call!

WASHINGTON ? The Internal Revenue Service today warned consumers about a sophisticated phone scam targeting taxpayers, including recent immigrants, throughout the country.

Victims are told they owe money to the IRS and it must be paid promptly through a pre-loaded debit card or wire transfer. If the victim refuses to cooperate, they are then threatened with arrest, deportation or suspension of a business or driver?s license. In many cases, the caller becomes hostile and insulting.

?This scam has hit taxpayers in nearly every state in the country.  We want to educate taxpayers so they can help protect themselves.  Rest assured, we do not and will not ask for credit card numbers over the phone, nor request a pre-paid debit card or wire transfer,? says IRS Acting Commissioner Danny Werfel. ?If someone unexpectedly calls claiming to be from the IRS and threatens police arrest, deportation or license revocation if you don?t pay immediately, that is a sign that it really isn?t the IRS calling.? Werfel noted that the first IRS contact with taxpayers on a tax issue is likely to occur via mail
Other characteristics of this scam include:
Scammers use fake names and IRS badge numbers. They generally use common names and surnames to identify themselves.
Scammers may be able to recite the last four digits of a victim?s Social Security Number.
Scammers spoof the IRS toll-free number on caller ID to make it appear that it?s the IRS calling.
Scammers sometimes send bogus IRS emails to some victims to support their bogus calls.
Victims hear background noise of other calls being conducted to mimic a call site.
After threatening victims with jail time or driver?s license revocation, scammers hang up and others soon call back pretending to be from the local police or DMV, and the caller ID supports their claim.
If you get a phone call from someone claiming to be from the IRS, here?s what you should do:
If you know you owe taxes or you think you might owe taxes, call the IRS at 1.800.829.1040. The IRS employees at that line can help you with a payment issue ? if there really is such an issue.
If you know you don?t owe taxes or have no reason to think that you owe any taxes (for example, you?ve never received a bill or the caller made some bogus threats as described above), then call and report the incident to the Treasury Inspector General for Tax Administration at 1.800.366.4484.
If you?ve been targeted by this scam, you should also contact the Federal Trade Commission and use their ?FTC Complaint Assistant? at FTC.gov.  Please add "IRS Telephone Scam" to the comments of your complaint.
Taxpayers should be aware that there are other unrelated scams (such as a lottery sweepstakes) and solicitations (such as debt relief) that fraudulently claim to be from the IRS.
The IRS encourages taxpayers to be vigilant against phone and email scams that use the IRS as a lure. The IRS does not initiate contact with taxpayers by email to request personal or financial information.  This includes any type of electronic communication, such as text messages and social media channels. The IRS also does not ask for PINs, passwords or similar confidential access information for credit card, bank or other financial accounts. Recipients should not open any attachments or click on any links contained in the message. Instead, forward the e-mail to phishing@irs.gov.

More information on how to report phishing scams involving the IRS is available on the genuine IRS website, IRS.gov.

The caller -- a Male -- called  and told me that he was with IRS. I knew he can't be with IRS, so I told him politely that if he're with the IRS he must send his charges in writings.  He quickly hung up saying I'd be in trouble.
Definitely, it's a scam.

Caller said an investigation case being filed against me by the IRS.   He threatened me with police involvement and deportation because I was being investigated for fraud.  Read a rather lengthy "affidavit"; said if I hung up he would have to call the local sheriff & have me arrested as I would be considered uncooperative & hostile!!  Scam?  Prank?

If I fail to return the phone call <and this is where it got really weird because his voice got really low and he started talking really slow/drawn out> that they are not responsible for any consequences that may happen in my future, which is lined with blood stains. Definitely a scam / prank call and definitely pissed me off.

received a call from this number where the guy claimed to be an IRS agent. He threatened me with police involvement and deportation because I was being investigated for fraud. I did not verify any info with him and hung up. I contacted the police and reported the incident. I also called the IRS directly to verify the alleged charges. The IRS does not threaten anyone, nor will they contact you via phone initially, you will have a mountain of paperwork on their letterhead regarding any action/investigation they are performing involving you before they will call you. and when they do call you it will not be from a cellular phone like this idiot did to me.
