Besides if Our SSN has been used fraudulently then how is our fault. We file a complaint and then we move on and then the person that has used it gets in trouble not us!!!

They called stating that they are from the DEPT OF JUSTICE.... That if I don't go and turn myself in to the police dept. they will come and arrest me at my place of employment or rip me out of my home. I Called the Dept. Of justice and the had me contact the Federal Trades to file a complaint with the Better Business. I was told not to answer their calls anymore. This is the biggest scam don't give in!!!! How they get our information is beyond me. They even called my employer.

This is a criminal extortion scam operating out of India. They are making the calls utilizing VOIP and the names of legitimate firms to make it appear the calls are originating from within the US. There is NO "company" or "debt" and you will NOT be arrested. They are harvesting and/or buying consumers' personal identifying information and you need to do whatever you can to protect yourself. This includes: Notifying the FTC: https://www.ftccomplaintassistant.gov/, placing fraud alerts with all three credit bureaus, notifying your bank and employer and letting these criminals know you are aware they are attempting to extort money for a non-existent debt and have alerted the authorities.

Officer jackson keep call my work place and my cellphone saying I will be arrested
ashley 2014-05-13 16:59:47 Unknown
The same happened to me. While I was on the call I google where the area code was from, then they transfered me to officer jackson while he was talking about me being arrested I was reading about the scams and fraud activities online. So I challenged the "officer jackson" it was hilarious. Nevertheless he yelled at me and hung up the phone. People please inform your love ones and tell your friends to tell a friend about these low life scammers because some people would have paid them out fear.

I received the same call and when I asked for the phone number and information about this person calling, knowing full well that this was a scam, they hung up and then called back and left at message at my work and on my cell - I have received calls like this before with the same type of message - and I just report it as they are impersonating the state police and word needs to get out that these are scam calls and to protect people from becoming a victim.
Jenniffer 2014-05-08 22:48:11 Unknown
I have also been getting a call from this number stating I am part of an investigation in NY and I need to turn myself in or I will be arrested at home. I had my husband listen to the message and he stated it's fraud because the guy states he is an officer and my husband said they present themselves differently if they are in law enforcement and they wouldn't ;eave messages like this. He was law enforcement for many years. As others have said sounds like a bill collector trying to scam. Not sure for what though.... Do not give out any of your personal information.
Sarah 2014-05-05 02:35:58 Unknown
I forgot to add that the guy had a very thick accent and his English was horrible. I also don't live anywhere near Washington (I live in Ohio). It's sad that we have to worry about this kind of stuff.
Sarah 2014-05-05 02:33:55 Unknown
I got a call from what I only assume is the same number (it came up as unknown) and they left a voicemail saying that it was Officer Watson and like all the other comments on here he made a claim that my Social Security number was involved in some fraudulent activity and they threatened to come arrest me at my home or my place of work which is funny seeing as I don't work anywhere currently and they left me that number to call, saying that I needed to either turn myself in or call that number immediately. I called the number back out of curiosity and it was a recording for voicemail of a very sketchy guy saying that I reached the Federal Bureau of investigations and to leave a message.
kangaroo 2014-04-29 02:33:42 Unknown
Oh...and I forgot to add that this idiot said (to the person they were leaving the message for) that if he did not call Agent Jackson immediately he would be arrested "today". lololololol I had to laugh. Like it ever happens that way, and if his social was being misused in fraudulant activity, why would HE be the one arrested??? hahahahahahahhahaahah what an absolute idiot.
Kangaroo 2014-04-29 02:28:19 Unknown
Got this same call today, and not just one. This a*** actually called me REPEATEDLY because he was trying to reach someone else on my number. I told him three times to stop calling me or I was going to report him. He CONTINUED to call again and again and again and each time i cut the call off so it would go to voicemail. Finally he left the message about Federal Agent Jackson blah blah blah and "good luck" at the end. The English was so broken that I was pretty sure it was not any law enforcement calling, and when he said "good luck" i had to roll my eyes. These jerks won't take no for an answer.
MICHELLE 2014-04-26 17:31:56 Unknown
Received a call from a so called officer Anderson from North Carolina State police stating that my name and social is involved with fraud or something to that extent and how I should call Federal agent Jackson at 202-239-8194. I called North Carolina police department to find out that they DON'T have a state police but a highway patrol instead.
Today I receive a call from Fed Agent Jackson and I'm told that I have three federal/criminal charges and unless I pay $775.29 a warrant for my arrest will be issued. Also that I will be picked up from my house or current work place within the next 30-40 mins my local police will come to my address.
Needless to say, I didn't pay a dime! Yesterday I called transunion, they flagged my credit report for the next 90 days. I called the attorney general and filed a complaint & they will also mail me out a form to fill out. I called my bank & made them aware just in case anyone tried to take money from my accounts. They've also told me to go onto the following website and report the call: www.ftc.gov
Hopefully, all goes well and they stop calling me!
Miriam 2014-04-23 14:04:54 Unknown
As I see all these comments and which I also received this call from this number. Why is that the real Police or FBI
Jon 2014-04-22 16:25:37 Unknown
I got the same message on my cell, but his number was blocked and was showing unknown. These idiots didn't know but they've been calling me for long time using the incorrect name. So when they said that there was an arrest using my incorrect name I knew this was the collection company and he was fraudulent. DON'T GIVE OUT ANY OF YOUR INFORMATION TO THESE PEOPLE; DON'T SEND ANY MONEY EITHER!!!!!!!!! if you must know the truth go to the local police contact the IRS or any government directly from their website and not the scammers website or link
Joy 2014-04-22 16:23:07 Unknown
I got a call this morning stating that my social security number had fraudulent behavior and that I need to go turn myself in to the nearest police station. As other people have stated they also said to call this number and ask for officer Gibson. They also said the police will show up at my place of business .....................this is a scam
Amy 2013-12-04 02:08:59 Unknown
I received the same kind of call coming into my phone as a 911 call etc etc explaining the same type of stories as above and when I called this number they gave me I said to the person who answered saying they were the FBI that I was to return a call to them and the man said and what all was you also told when you called the number I said what do you mean what else he said what other info I said I have none and he hung up on me. This is obviously a scam and I dont know how they can have a incoming call coming into one's phone as 911. The number they gave me to call back was 2022398194

Section 809 of the FDCPA http://www.ftc.gov/bcp/edu/pubs/consumer/credit/cre27.pdf requires 3rd-party debt collectors to give debtors written notice of debt (the key word is *shall*) :
"§ 809. Validation of debts
(a) Within five days after the initial communication with a consumer in connection with the collection of any debt, a debt collector shall, unless the following information is contained in the initial communication or the consumer has paid the debt, send the consumer a written notice containing?
(1) the amount of the debt;
(2) the name of the creditor to whom the debt is owed;
(3) a statement that unless the consumer, within thirty days after receipt of the notice, disputes the validity of the debt, or any portion thereof, the debt will be assumed to be valid by the debt collector;
(4) a statement that if the consumer notifies the debt collector in writing within the thirty-day period that the debt, or any portion thereof, is disputed, the debt collector will obtain verification of the debt or a copy of a judgment against the consumer and a copy of such verification or judgment will be mailed to the consumer by the debt collector; and
(5) a statement that, upon the consumer?s written request within the thirty-day period, the debt collector will provide the consumer with the name and address of the original creditor, if different from the current creditor."
****************************************
A Collection Agent May Not?
Here are the top 11 actions prohibited by the The Fair Debt Collection Practices Act:
Misrepresent Him or Herself
A debt collector may not misrepresent himself as an attorney or law enforcement officer.
Use the Telephone to Annoy or Harass
A collection agent may not cause a telephone to ring or engage any person in telephone conversation repeatedly or continuously with an intent to annoy, abuse, or harass anyone at the called number.
Threaten Arrest or Lawsuit
A collection agent may not threaten a consumer with arrest. It may not threaten legal action that is either not permitted or not actually contemplated. In other words, a the threat of a lawsuit may be an empty one.
Use Abusive or Threatening Language
A debt collector may no use abusive or profane language in the course of communication related to the debt.
Publish a Bad Debt List
Publishing the consumer?s name or address on a "bad debt" list is prohibited.
Contact By Embarrassing Media
A debt collector may not communicate with a consumer by post card. It may not use any language or symbol, other than the debt collector?s address, on any envelope when communicating with a consumer by use of the mails or by telegram. A debt collector may use its business name if such name does not indicate it is in the debt collection business.
Contact a Consumer at Work
A collection agent may not communicate with consumers at their place of employment after being told this is unacceptable or prohibited by the employer.
Seek Unjustifiable Amounts
A debt collector may not demand any amounts not permitted under an applicable contract or as provided under law.
Contact a Consumer Represented by an Attorney
A collection agent may not contact a consumer after it learns the consumer is represented by a lawyer.
Communicate With a Consumer After Receiving a Validation Request
If a consumer sends a written §1692g response within 30 days, the collection agent may not communicate with the consumer until it mails the consumer the requested verification of original creditor's name and address.
Communicate With Third Parties
A debt collector may not reveal or discuss the nature of a consumer?s debts with third parties other than the consumer?s spouse or attorney. A collection agent may contact neighbors or co-workers only to obtain location information. It may contact a third party again if it has reason to believe the information the party provided previously is false.
Bills.com FDCPA FAQ
Below are questions Bills.com readers ask frequently:
Can a Collection Agent Call My Cell Phone?
Yes. However, if you tell the debt collector it may not use that number because it is a cell phone, it may not contact you again at that number.
I Keep Receiving Dozens of Calls From Collection Agents. Is That Legal?
No. Unscrupulous collection agents will use "block parties" or "office parties" where they contact a consumer, multiple neighbors, or co-workers telling them they need to reach the consumer on an urgent matter. This is not permitted under the FDCPA.
A Collector Says I Will Be Arrested if I Do Not Pay
This was a true statement before the US Civil War, but has not been true since. People may be arrested if an aggressive judge files a bench warrant for a person who does not appear at a hearing relating to a lawsuit regarding a debt. However, in that case, the offense is the failure to respond to a court order, and not the existence of the debt. As stated above, it is illegal under the FDCPA to threaten a consumer with arrest if the consumer does not pay the debt.
