I had several calls from a person having heavy Indian accent, claiming he is an IRS agent dealing with criminal investigation.  Don't reply to him.  It's a fraudulent call.

Yes they are fraud. There is person who speaks in fake accent that will make you laugh.

Got same call, googled it & found all these results. I called back & demanded to talk to someone. They hung up & hung up & finally I got someone. In 2 sentences their thick south Asian accent came forward & next thing thy started cursing in Hindi. Beware , & there should be a way to report or track these fockkers.

Caller (skinned like a robot voice/automated computer vice) left a message on my answer machine claiming to be from the IRS and said a CP11 notice had been filed against my name. The caller asked that I call back immediately.

I got a call from this number and they said that I was under criminal investigation for my taxes. The caller said his name was Edward Smith (LOL). They gave me this number and told me to call back within 45 min. I did some research about the number and found that it is a fraud. Still I called them and told them that if they call me I will report to them to the Police. Then the person started abusing me in Hindi. I disconnected the phone.

I just received several calls today from the same number (202-241-0333). I couldn't make out the number at first because the person spoke in a very thick Indian accent. He left a message stating that I there was a criminal investigation against me and he was calling for the Criminal Investigation department of the IRS.  I called the number back and someone picked up on the first ring, with no identification to let me know that this was the IRS.  When I told them I was calling about the message that was left the call immediately disconnected.  When I called back I was told I was calling the IRS advocacy line and then when the recording was finished when I tried to select "1 or 2" to continue the call disconnected again.  I did some research on the IRS site and on Google, which is how I found this page, because the whole thing seems fishy to me.  So glad I found this site. Thank you for the helpful information.  I am going to report them.

I got a message left on my answering machine from the # 202-241-0333 claiming to be the Internal Revenue National Tax Payer Advocacy group and this was a digital message using the name crystal stating that it was about my pending CP11 notice and to call them back immediately to avoid lien against me.  I did call back and there was a message saying welcome to the National Taxpayer Advocacy Help line and then I just got a beep so I hung up. I called a couple of times but didn't leave a message.

Same call stating on VM he is from IRS. Schmuck could barely speak English .. very heavy Indian accent. BTW, these guys are relentless -- they get around call block by using a legit number. Other numbers used by these worms are 866-338-7767; 202-751-2453; 347-559-0378. This is a SCAM. Unfortunately, these idiots who are calling from boiler house in India have no idea how the system works in the US. Also, some of them will follow up with another idiot who claims he is from the local police and they will arrest you.

Calling from criminal investigation dept of IRS & need to call back

Received a call saying money laundering case against my wife. I said r u out of your mind? That was it and he started mumbling that I could not understand. Heavy accent...I called back and asking for details about his name, id and supervisor. Guess what, He hung up on me. Beware, don't give your personal info....

I got call from this number few times. Some Indian lady telling about criminal invistagation against your name from IRS call back immidiatley.  When I called back that number it went to voice mail saying its Devision of tech crime unit of IRS with Indian voice.

Same here, except he had a very thick indian accent as said he was from the Internal Revenue Service and if I did not play him now, I will be charged with auto theft and be deported to Canada.  Interesting, as I work for the INS.

I also got this call a few times. They made the same threats mentioned by others on this site. They said there was an "IRS tax evasion and money laundering case" against me. They gave me a number to call (202-241-0333) which was also the number they were calling from - strange. They gave me a case number (USD/IRS/17308) as well as the name and badge number of the IRS employee calling me ("Beter Brown", #146215). The last time they called they wanted me to call back and ask for a "Mr. Brown". I asked them if they were from the Internal Revenue Services and they said they were. It was fairly convincing. I knew my taxes were clean, so I checked with contacts at the Department of Homeland Security, local Police, and the IRS. It's a scam that is targeting minorities and recent immigrants. They seem to be (primarily) targeting Hispanic and Indian immigrants, at least in the DC area, according to the Police. Here's a link to the notice put out by the IRS on their website:

What a sick person - i got this call too ..the same spiel on IRS fraud and that my accounts are all frozen and they are going to jail me today.

I got a call from a person with Latino accent claiming to be an IRS criminal investigation agent (badge# 619752). He threatened me with arrest and said that IRS has issued an investigation against me and I will be deported. I would like to mention one very important point here, when you dial 201-241-0333 it appears that you are calling the IRS taxpayer advocate helpline but when you select 1 or 2 as the option, the line gets disconnected. Please share your experiences with this number if you have been targeted as well.
