Just received a message from this number as well. Returned message and there was a lame recording of a recording saying it was the IRS. Guy then called me back on my cell with a very heavy accent saying a police officer was going to arrest me in a half hour. Total idiot trying to scare people/get money. I have the initial message saved- maybe between everyone we can get this idiot arrested.

carol 2014-05-15 09:10:16 Unknown
On May 14 William (with accent & hard to understand) Photo badge #1569B called from 'Crime Investigation Division' stating that i was guilty of fraud and misconduct on taxes which I hid; get ready for legal action. You could hear a call center situation in the back ground with may people calling others.

Received call today. Heavy accent. Told my husband they were from Internal Revenue in DC and that they had a warrant for my arrest. When my husband asked what the warrant was for the guy became irate and insisted that my husband confirm our address. My husband refused and then the guy hung up on him. This is a big scam, beware!

I just got a call from this number this morning the guys name was Shane Chris and had an accent. He told me he is from Homeland Security Crime Investigation division and that there is an arrest weren't on my name for tax fraud he gave me a case number and the laws that I supposedly broke and threatened me that if I don't make an appointment with one of their people to go over my case and file for an appeal an officer will be at my door in one hour to arrest me. I asked for the Homeland Security phone number and he gave me 202 2414905 and his phone number which is 202 241 4103 and I told him I need to call homeland security and ask more about this. Instead I called the sheriff dep in my town and filed a report that told me not to worry because if there was an arrest warrant on my name nobody will call me and let me know they will just come arrest me. Then I googled the number and found your site thank you thank you for listing this numbers I feel much better now I have to say the guy did scare me a bit
F**king Irritated 2014-04-10 19:08:52 Unknown
Same as the others before this, guy with a heavy Indian sounding accent calls and leaves message that he is "from Crime Investigation of IRS" and is "calling on crimes associated with you and this physical address". He goes on to say in summation it's time sensitive, respond immediately or face severe and immediate action from the government. Leaves this number, then hangs up.
He did this to my mother, my 73 year old retired on a fixed income so low she hasn't had to file taxes in 8 years mother. Had I not shown up to visit I have no doubt that he would have had her hand him any info and/or money he wanted. I arrived just after she had tried to return his call, and she was very upset with me for even suggesting this was a scam because when she called back the message said it was him at the IRS.
Hours later, emotionally exhausted from battling with the woman who birthed me, the strongest and most gifted with common sense person I have ever known, and submitting this call info to Treasury Inspector General for Tax Administration (TIGTA) I come to you dear reader, with the hope that if you or someone you love is targeted that you are not scared or afraid and that you experience the intense satisfaction of getting a**hats like this so unbelievably upset with you that you are treated to the entire length and breadth of their ability to cuss you out and forever remember the auspicious occasion when he claimed he was "uploading your information to C.I.A.'s Most Wanted list." Oh God, I only wish I could have recorded this conversation, I would be virally famous by now, but quite honestly I hadn't thought it would get that far. Best wishes to all.

I called Treasury Inspector General for Tax Administration at 1.800.366.4484 and he lady there confirmed that it is a legitimate irs number.. That's why I am confused, but I also believe that it is a scam..
Alfalfa 2014-04-08 18:31:59 Unknown
This is NOT a "legitimate" IRS number---and whoever told you it is either part of this scam or sadly misinformed!
WASHINGTON ? The Internal Revenue Service today warned consumers about a sophisticated phone scam targeting taxpayers, including recent immigrants, throughout the country.
Victims are told they owe money to the IRS and it must be paid promptly through a pre-loaded debit card or wire transfer. If the victim refuses to cooperate, they are then threatened with arrest, deportation or suspension of a business or driver?s license. In many cases, the caller becomes hostile and insulting.
?This scam has hit taxpayers in nearly every state in the country. We want to educate taxpayers so they can help protect themselves. Rest assured, we do not and will not ask for credit card numbers over the phone, nor request a pre-paid debit card or wire transfer,? says IRS Acting Commissioner Danny Werfel. ?If someone unexpectedly calls claiming to be from the IRS and threatens police arrest, deportation or license revocation if you don?t pay immediately, that is a sign that it really isn?t the IRS calling.? Werfel noted that the first IRS contact with taxpayers on a tax issue is likely to occur via mail
Other characteristics of this scam include:
Scammers use fake names and IRS badge numbers. They generally use common names and surnames to identify themselves.
Scammers may be able to recite the last four digits of a victim?s Social Security Number.
Scammers spoof the IRS toll-free number on caller ID to make it appear that it?s the IRS calling.
Scammers sometimes send bogus IRS emails to some victims to support their bogus calls.
Victims hear background noise of other calls being conducted to mimic a call site.
After threatening victims with jail time or driver?s license revocation, scammers hang up and others soon call back pretending to be from the local police or DMV, and the caller ID supports their claim.
If you get a phone call from someone claiming to be from the IRS, here?s what you should do:
If you know you owe taxes or you think you might owe taxes, call the IRS at 1.800.829.1040. The IRS employees at that line can help you with a payment issue ? if there really is such an issue.
If you know you don?t owe taxes or have no reason to think that you owe any taxes (for example, you?ve never received a bill or the caller made some bogus threats as described above), then call and report the incident to the Treasury Inspector General for Tax Administration at 1.800.366.4484.
If you?ve been targeted by this scam, you should also contact the Federal Trade Commission and use their ?FTC Complaint Assistant? at FTC.gov. Please add "IRS Telephone Scam" to the comments of your complaint.
Taxpayers should be aware that there are other unrelated scams (such as a lottery sweepstakes) and solicitations (such as debt relief) that fraudulently claim to be from the IRS.
The IRS encourages taxpayers to be vigilant against phone and email scams that use the IRS as a lure. The IRS does not initiate contact with taxpayers by email to request personal or financial information. This includes any type of electronic communication, such as text messages and social media channels. The IRS also does not ask for PINs, passwords or similar confidential access information for credit card, bank or other financial accounts. Recipients should not open any attachments or click on any links contained in the message. Instead, forward the e-mail to phishing@irs.gov.
More information on how to report phishing scams involving the IRS is available on the genuine IRS website, IRS.gov.

I received a calll (vm) from the same number (a guy with asian accent). Verified the phone number with IRS and they say it is a legitimate IRS number. I called the number back, a guy picked up and he is the guy who left a vm to my number. How is it possible for a scam to use a legitimate IRS phone number? It is possible to fake the caller ID, but if IRS claims it is a legitimate phone number, how on earth when I call back the number someone picks up?
Jim 2014-03-31 20:36:22 Unknown
THIS IS A SCAM!! DONT BE FOOLED - HANG UP AND CALL THEM BACK AND CURSE AT THEM - THEY WILL CURSE AT YOU BACK (NO FEDERAL AGENCY WILL EVER CALL YOU A F****NG C***SUCKER). DONT WASTE YOUR TIME WITH THESE A***OLE AND DEFINITELY DONT BE FOOLED BY WHAT THEY SAY - NO FEDERAL AGENCY WOULD RANDOMLY CALL YOU AND SAY YOU HAVE 60 MINUTES TO SEND MONEY.

A guy called from this number claiming to be from the IRS. He wanted to talk to me, but I was at work. My son told him this and then the guy asked for my cell number. My son refused to give it to the guy and told him he didn't know if he was legit, so it would be better to just call back and talk to me. I called the number when I got home and the message said it was the Internal Revenue Service. But so what! Remember folks, the IRS do not call or e-mail people. They send snail mail! To date I have not received another call from this number.

It's a scam.
Probably from overseas.
Fake Caller ID.
We ARE informing the community. That's what this web site does.
Not that will make much difference. People who fall for this will always fall for it. And the scammer will probably be using a different phone number tomorrow.
Sam 2014-03-27 15:38:05 Unknown
Can anyone tell me if this is a real government agency phone number. I Really believe this is another professional scam. We need help with this because we don't want to ignore it but not to be subject to another scam. We had enough from the fake IRS notification e-mail scams! Please someone should investigate and inform the community about this number.

I got the same thing on my answering machine today. Some guy with a heavy accent and an American-sounding name talking about criminal investigation of some sort but I couldn't even make out what he was saying. This *must* be some sort of scam or phishing expedition. No way am I calling the number back.
Brenda 2014-03-25 23:05:19 Unknown
I just retrieved a message from my answering machine from a guy with a heavy middle eastern accent. It came from the same number shown here 202-241-4103. Couldn't really understand most of his message but he said something about needing my physical address and "other" information and that his call relates to the "criminal investigation" I'm involved in. WHAT??? These people need to get a life and find a real job.

Same guy used to call a couple of months ago from a California number alleging to be an IRS investigator.

I got call from the same number, 202 241 4130. The guy calling had an accent and called himself "chris brown" and that he is from the "Federal Department of Crime Investigation Office". He said I should have received many notices in the mail and now is my last chance to resolve my legal issues or I will have the police at my doorstep. I just ignored him. He called again and I told him to stop bothering me and that was a scam. He kept threatening. I told him to shut up and stop wasting my time. Yet he kept calling. Is there a way to stop such a nuisance?
