I am receiving calls from AICR several times a week. Most of the time I ignore the call bu even if I answer, there is no number. What gives??? It's not only annoying but creepy! How can I make them stop calling?

Please stop calling me on my home phone number listed below. I view this repeatedly calling as a form of harassment and would greatly appreciate you cooperation and willingness to remove me from your calling list to make the harassment stop.
Thank you

Charities or paid fundraisers for charities, market research surveys, political calls and a few others are exempt from the Do Not Call List which is designed primarily for telemarketers. Neither the FCC or FTC will go after annoying charities. Your only recourse is to ask them to stop and if they persist send a cease and desist order via Certified Mail, Return Receipt. Once you have done that and have proof of receipt, if they continue to call you keep a log of the date and time of calls and file a lawsuit for harassment. Other then that, only a change in the DNC Law will stop it.

Charities are exempt from the Do Not Call rules. They are supposed to stop calling if you ask but that may take a cease and desist letter sent Certified Mail, Return Receipt. Even then it may only stop until next year as they probably start fresh and don't carry over their internal DNC list year to year.

Does anyone actually do anything about these anoying calls,Seems to me trying to get this agency to do anything is as annoying as the calls we get. How much money does this agency get ,I beleave a private company could get some results.

tired of it 2013-01-16 17:54:07 Unknown
I am tired of these calls, it seems charitable organizations don't have to adhere to the DO NOT CALL regulations, I hae received appx 6 calls in the last few days. NEED THEM TO STOP.
Mignon 2013-01-13 01:50:30 Telemarketer
these people are obnixious, they call before 8 AM, which is illegal. Why do they think I will answer and give them any money when they are so annoying?! Nitwits!
Spirit 2013-01-13 01:19:40 Unknown
If you are on the Do Not Call list, they get your number from the Do Not Call list itself. If not, they got it through random dialing, hacking into data bases, searching a phone directory, etc.

Received 6 calls in 8 days . Reading these inputs implies the caller is representing Cancer organizations. What they are doing is ruining it for the honest Cancer Institutes. How do they choose the numbers they call? Obviously, they get a list from somewhere.

We never answer calls from numbers we don't recognize. If, as some here have said, it is from the AICR, they are a scam charity. Very little money goes for cancer research. USA did a large article recently and they were mentioned. They were rated at the bottom Zero. Theynwill change phone numbers all the time. Not sure how the government can stop as they are registered as a "charity" -if even mostly phony.

Mary Jane Morgan 2013-01-04 22:02:30 Unknown
How can I stop these calls? No one is there when I answer. We get two or more daily.
Heartbeat 2013-01-03 20:52:09 Unknown
I have three different numbers on my ID where they have called. I know it's ACR....I did send out cards one time for them and now they won't quit calling. This goes on for months!
A Survivor 2012-12-29 23:57:18 Unknown
Getting calls from them once or two times daily. We don't answer the phone when we see it is from AIRC. When will they give up? This has been going on for several weeks. I have previously sent out letters requesting donations, but don't get much response. So I will not do it again.... I am a survivor...and donate to the organizations that support research in the type of cancer I had. How long before they get the message that we won't answer the phone. They don't even have the courtesy of leaving a message.

Received several calls with 202 area code. Hangs up after 2-3 rings and never leaves a message. Why can't this traced and stopped?

The AICR call and phone number of the day. It's Thursday and their 4th call using a different number so far this week. No matter that my number is a Do Not Call listing. I suggest all funding for FCC do not call program be halted and an alternative to block calls based on this type of communication. It seems everyone knows who the offenders are. I suppose being or spoofing a nonprofit is the AICR excuse. Not that it makes any real difference. Goggle 'stop tom' for more do not call results.
Yup 2012-12-16 21:29:58 Unknown
They sure did start again... Called many times this week, I don't answer.

They've started again. They want you to send fund-raising letters to your neighbors. Will send you the printed-out letters with some inserts, a bunch of envelopes, AND a database print-out of your neighbors' names, addresses, and phone numbers! Then they want you to send all the checks they send you (ha ha) to their central address. If you don't do it, they follow up with you.
We have a cancer survivor here and they tried it once a few years ago. We tried sending the letters. Got one donation! They tried it again last year. I ignored the calls but they were so persistant, the one who had cancer here agreed to do it again. After looking their mailing over, he decided to just send a donation himself and not bother the neighbors.
Now they're doing it again. They'll call every day from different phone numbers and caller IDs. I refused last year, but they still called. It wasn't me who they'd listen to, it was the guy who had cancer. Caller ID varies: AICR, American Institute of Cancer Research, and others.
The idea that they send you your neighbors' names, addresses, and phones is CREEPY!

AICR (American Institute of Cancer Research) showed on the caller ID . . . no was there when I answer the call.
