They are a collection agency. They have been calling my front desk for one of our employees. I googled them, and called "(888) 433-2886" and let them know they were calling a place of business so I wanted to be taken off the list.

they called my business. THEY CALLED ME at work and THEY were rude to me?!!  What's that about?

Before you do that, consider this:

Generally, the TCPA does not apply to debt collectors making collection calls to debtors. However, if you are subjected to calls from a debt collector and you are not the debtor, you may file a lawsuit against the debt collector under the Fair Debt Collection Practices Act (FDCPA) and the TCPA.

This right was recently recognized by Judge Legrome D. Davis in a case called Watson v. NCO Group, Inc.  NCO Group is a debt collector that uses automated prerecorded collection calls.  In this case, Mr. Watson alleged he was getting hundreds of calls from NCO Group after he got a new phone number. Mr. Watson claimed he owed no debt to NCO Group, Inc.  Mr. Watson filed suit under both the FDCPA and TCPA.

David Israel, defense lawyer for NCO, argued that the TCPA should not apply to debt collectors.  Judge Davis rejected the argument made by David Israel. The judge ruled that Mr. Watson had a right to sue NCO Group Inc under the TCPA for $500 for each call.  Judge Davis wrote;

[The] Court is convinced that a non-debtor's rights are in fact violated when he is subjected to repeated annoying and abusive debt collection calls that he remains powerless to stop.

Judge Davis' ruling was based upon his interpretation that collection calls to non-debtors violate the privacy rights provided by the TCPA.  

So what can you do if you receive "wrong number" calls from debt collectors?

1. Sign up for the Do-Not-Call registry.
2. Save the calls captured by your voice mail or answering machine.
3. Contact a consumer lawyer.

These morons call here at least once a day looking for someone I've never heard of before and I've had this number for seven years. I've told them they've got the wrong number but that hasn't stopped them, it just moved them into auto-dial-nobody-there-if-you-pick-up mode. An eight-year-old with Google, two minutes, and my phone number could figure out that it's the wrong phone number but the wizards at West Asset Management apparently don't set the bar that high. I'm about ready to have my landline disconnected.

and the number was 202 367 9911 at the time they called was 4:28 pm, central time.

a few minutes ago i got a number with dc area code and i googled the number and found this place. sure enough after reading this forum,i called it and it was the west assest mgmt. they called on my pre-paid cell phone i have had for years and i called from another phone that is unlisted gave them a bogus number and they said they also needed my name. i didn't give it to them and told them that i didn't know why someone was calling me from dc when i dont do business there or know anyone there. and im living in another state (louisiana). the woman on the phone said that the only way they could see if it was a wrong number was if i gave my name. as if! don't think so. besides, my bills are caught up and i receive paper statements from ever company i pay to. thanks for this forum. it helped me before i called.

Generic "please call this 1-877 number" message left on work phone. West Asset Management used to harass me from Texas and Georgia (with the name of a famous athlete in the message). Now it appears to be trying from the DC area.

Caller asked for someone not at this address. When I told them they had the wrong number they said "Sorry for the inconvenience" and hung up. Looked up the number and it was a collection agency named West Asset Management. I have had this number for 8 years and no one has lived here but me and my husband.

West Asset Management, collection agency.  They handle student loans, as well as others.

They called and asked for my father who I haven't talked to in over 20 years!

Called and left msg as if I owed a bill that was sent to a collections company.  I am current on all bills.  When I returned the call the woman tried repeatedly to get my husbands ss#.  When I refused she made up a birthday and last 4 digits of another man's ss# and said they must have wrong person.

"Terrel" from this number just called and read off four numbers to "verify" they were the last 4 digits of my social. They were not and I just hung up.

This number has been calling me 2-3 times a day for a few weeks. They never leave a message. VERY annoying!

A call received and nobody responded.......

4th or 5th time calling, once a week for the past month- every time they say they've removed my number (for the 3rd or fourth time), this West Asset management, and then next week comes and they call again. Time before last, I gave them a phone number I googled on the person they are looking for Kelly S.- seems like they could pick up a phone book. Well, they called again 2 days ago. maggot scum.

They said they are West Asset Management. I am going to ask them to not call this place of business anymore.

Got a call and a woman was on the other end and then she hung up....

This number called and left no message.  Maybe it's one of those here today, gone tomorrow scam artists, as it seems that they just recently started calling people.  When I tried to reverse lookup, I did find that it was a landline.

They called and I din't answer. When I returned the called to see who it was, a guy asked if I had an account with them? When I told him I wasn't even sure who they were, he asked for the number that was call and said that he would tranfer me to who called.Of course he hung up on me after transferring me to a line that made terrible noise.
