Hahaha...i just had a great conversation with a person calling from the "US Department of Government." He notified me I had been randomly chosen to receive a $8500 grant. I proceeded to ask him(Jokingly), questions about how I was chosen and why me and how they got my information. He said, "The government randomly gives money away to people who pay their taxes on time." I responded with a "Oh really. I'm pretty sure the government doesn't just give away money, especially when you never apply for it. By the way, what department of the government did you say you were with?" Then he started to get rude with me, saying, "I said I am calling with the United States Government Department of Government." Me: "Yes, I heard you say that, but WHICH department of the government?" The man responded, "The United States Government, Sir. How many United States Governments do you know?" Me: "So now you're going to be rude to me before you try to scam me? Oh and for the record, I'm recording this conversation and I plan on using this in my upcoming report I have to submit for my Masters degree on Administration of Criminal Justice. Thanks for giving me a firsthand perspective." The man, whom I'm assuming was either speechless or scared s***-less, made a "uhhh..." noise then proceeded to hang up. I kind of want him to call back so he can try again and I can hear another good story.
It would be amazing if the government was able to give me $8500....I could use it. Haha.

Got a call today from a number in Colorado (970-589-4341) to advise me I was one of 20,000 people picked to receive a grant from the US Treasury for $8400. She gave me a number to call and confirm which was 202-391-0961. When I called, I spoke to Chris Walter (no way his real name with that accent)and he said in order to transfer the money to my account in 45 minutes I had to Western Union $205.00 as a processing fee for charity in feeding the homeless in third world countries. I told him I didn't have $205 just to take it out of the $8400. Well that couldn't be done, but my file would be kept open for 30 days should I decide to change my mind. Needless to say I guess I'll never get my $8400 (LOL)

This telephone number calls me constantly and never once could pronounce my name correctly. Everytime he asks for "scene" I say I don't know and "scene's" but this last time he called he said "f*** you". This is not appropriate in any mannor and I would love for him to stop calling me.

NO GRANT - JUST STEALING YOUR MONEY
Government Grant Scams
Although government grant scams have been around almost as long as the government itself, the majority of the sites being advertised today didn't exist before the November 2008 election.

?Free Government Grants?: Don?t Take Them For Grant-ed
?Because you pay your income taxes on time, you have been awarded a free $12,500 government grant! To get your grant, simply give us your checking account information, and we will direct-deposit the grant into your bank account!?
Sometimes, it?s an ad that claims you will qualify to receive a ?free grant? to pay for education costs, home repairs, home business expenses, or unpaid bills. Other times, it?s a phone call supposedly from a ?government? agency or some other organization with an official sounding name. In either case, the claim is the same: your application for a grant is guaranteed to be accepted, and you?ll never have to pay the money back.
Don?t give out your bank account information to anyone you don?t know.
Scammers pressure people to divulge their bank account information so that they can steal the money in the account. Always keep your bank account information confidential. Don?t share it unless you are familiar with the company and know why the information is necessary.
Don?t pay any money for a ?free? government grant.
If you have to pay money to claim a ?free? government grant, it isn?t really free. A real government agency won?t ask you to pay a processing fee for a grant that you have already been awarded ? or to pay for a list of grant-making institutions. The names of agencies and foundations that award grants are available for free at any public library or on the Internet. The only official access point for all federal grant-making agencies is www.grants.gov.
Look-alikes aren?t the real thing.
Just because the caller says he?s from the ?Federal Grants Administration? doesn?t mean that he is. There is no such government agency. Take a moment to check the blue pages in your telephone directory to bear out your hunch ? or not.
Phone numbers can deceive.
Some con artists use Internet technology to disguise their area code in caller ID systems. Although it may look like they?re calling from Washington, DC, they could be calling from anywhere in the world.

This number has been calling me for days. They have called 3 times this morning. The second time I told him I was an FBI agent and would have to verify and record this call as I would need to check this out. The idiot did not understand what I had just said and contined to ask for my cc or aba and bank account number. I hung up on him and he even called once again. He was saying he was with US government and I had been selected to receive 8,400 from the government as a grant for being a good citizen. This call and others from that number have been with a strong Indian dialect from a boiler room operation. They are a scam and relentless. Could it bo fund raising tactic?
