I got a number from the same department with a no I.d number. On my phone. The lady's number was 202-684-6652 and said her name was Janet Brown. Said I'd get 7500$ after I bought a green dot card and then called that number she gave me. Then put 200$ on it to get more $ but the limit is 1000$ on it... Makes so much sense right? I didn't buy the card and I haven't called. Just want to know I'm not the only one that got a call from a lady with a white name but an Indian Arabic accent lol.

I was just called back by an angry "Kevin Marshall" on a Dallas cell phone number, telling me to call him back on his office number which is suspiciously a DC number. When I asked how I knew this wasn't a scam he once again told me to call his office. I asked why he couldn't explain now why it wasn't a scam to which he replied "my office line is fallowed by the FBI" so I quickly hung up again.

Political Call
I too just got a phone call from the 202-000-1111 phone number. I was not happy see as I'm home sick and this phone call woke me up. A man with a heavy Indian accent answered and told me I was one of 1700 people chosen to recieve 7,000 dollars in grant money form the govt. He told me my own information then gave me a code and told me to call 202-697-9373 to talk to another heavily accented man claiming to be "Kevin Marshall" who answered the second time I called. Took my code said he needed to check my file and put me on hold.

Sure is a scam.  Govt. grant scam.  Been around a while.  I don't see how they make much money from it.   Most people know the government is in austerity mode and wouldn't just give out money.

I got the same call from 253-205-0739. They said I got the grant for being a good citizen, and not having anything on my record, and I could spend it wherever i wanted. They told me my name, address, and age. Everything was right, which is scary. They asked me to confirm my zip code, which was from my previous address, so I told them a different zip code. I looked it up as soon as he hung up and found this. So I called the other number the guy gave me, (206-866-5215) and clearly it was the same guy who called me (sloppy scam on their part), so I told him I needed to change some information that they had wrong, (just to see if they'd fall for it and I could give them the wrong info.) he said there was a high call volume and they'd get back to me in 15-30 minutes. Yet he answered the number I was supposed to call...

from an unknown number
totally a scam. I got a call from a lady with a heavy accent saying that the government wanted to give me a grant of $7000 because I never filed for bankruptcy and paid taxes on time. I have never payed taxes because I'm barely 18. She confirmed my school address and then told me to tell them my date of birth and age to confirm but I asked them if I had a number I could call back because I didn't want to give out information and then the lady hung up on me.

Got the same call on my cellphone no less. A woman who had trouble with the English language and who was nearly unintelligible, told me the same story as most others reported. I needed to call 202-506-9222 and talk to Janet Morris with my claim number LE00# to get my $5K "grant money."  At the end, I told her I was the FBI and would be up her a**. She was totally unphased. What a stupid scam. It's hard to believe anyone would fall for this carp. She also asked me for my age to which I lied.

I just received the same phone call this morning.  The guy made the same claim that I was one of 1700 people selected to receive the $5000 grant money.  I was given the number (202) 241-2662 to call.  I was to ask for the Account manager Christie Wells.  I had the choice of receiving the money in my account a credit card or in cash. I told him I wanted cash and that delayed his offer for a couple seconds.I then called the number given and a female who had an African accent must not have realized I was calling could be heard saying "hello, hello,  test check."  A check of the phone number shows that it is a Washington DC area code but could not find any information about the number.

someone from this number called in the morning for my husband saying he was selected to receive $5000 grant money from the US government.  they asked for his birthday.  my husband would not give it to them and said he'd have to call them back.  they gave him a code and then said that he would have to call back and give the code.

i called back for him.  the phone rang for a very long long time - no automated message popped up, as one would expect from calling an official government number.  the lady on the phone asked for the number and i gave it to her.  then she asked for the name on the account.  i would not tell her, and instead asked what agency she was from.  she said that she was from the Government grant department.

i then asked her where she got his information from and she hung up on me.  i tried calling back several times to see what would happen and the line would ring and then go to busy.  like my husband thought, this must be a SCAM!

I had gotten the same phone call and they gave me a Grant Code and for me to call the manager right away. I had asked the guy if their is a fee or charge to recieve this grant and he had said NO. So, I called the Manager and she had said that I was approved for $5000 and that the only thing I had to do was go to a western UNION and get a money order of $149.00 and after I mailed it to them. The very next day the money would be in my account. But what I wanna know is how they know my Bank Charges $149.00 to put free money into my account. I just called my bank and I bank with WACHOVIA and they said with them just saying go to the nearest WESTERN UNION NEARBY should give you the red flag and that it is a fraud. They just want $150.00 and walk away with it, and your account money is gonna be gone. So, please do not do this and call ur bank if you are very curious about the free $5000.00 grant that you supposely been approved. If it was thru the government they wouldve just send it through the mail, with no deposite feel!!!! I just called that numbere and its very bizzy....what a big joke!!!!

i Wish I would've seen this first! Luckily I figured it out on the fly.  I was in a bind and applied for a payday loan online (I know first mistake!) Next thing I know I'm these calls asking me to verify some of my 7nformation. Not all of it at once, mind you. Each call came in succession.  Each asking me to verify a different piece on personal info. This happened over the span of 20-30 mins.  At first I didn't think anything of it. But by the time I was asked to verify my home adddress I was very suspicious, this was the infamous government grant call everyone else has mentioned!  So I answer the phone and almost immediately my spider-sense is going off! I'm not sure if it was the very thick and almost unintelligible (yet somehow expected) Hispanic female voice, or the blatantly vanilla name of the company that set me on guard. I mean "government grant distribution center" wow they were really original! Between her accent and mumblig through her script (luckily that same bit of bad acting helped me) I could. Barely understand her!  Except for each time she got to the "you have been selected to receive a $5000 grant ) their explanation for this very generous gift was that I along with 11,500 other apparently civic minded Americans were chosen for this "stimulus grant" because we had all managedto payed our taxes on time, keep our collective butts out of jail, and not filed bankruptcy.

Well that really set of alarm bells! I asked her how I was chosen, and I very quickly in even worse broken English than before she said the same. Criteria over again. Stressing strongly that "the government" had carefully selected us. When I asked what government? She stated very quickly "your government". I then asked which one was that? By now she was getting agitated, she was definitely beginning to lose her composure, then I said you mean our government. She said "yes, yes the government " I told I thought this was a scam. She said it wasn't and she could provide some of my information to prove it. I said really. Like what? She then proceeds to rattle of my full name including my full middle name and suffix! Then she preceptor rattle off everything thing else, except my routing and account numbers.  When I asked her how she knew all that? She said that since she workexd for a government agency they had access to the 2010 census report. I said wow really you learned all that from the census. She said oh yws! That's were we get all our info. I said that's really amazing! Especially when you take into consideration that the census is done in September and it December already.  That's when I dropped my first real bomb! I a said so you were able to get my name and address from that huh? Yes she replied. That's funny I said considering that the census form don't include a spot for names, and on top of that I didn't live at this address in September! My family just moved in to that address at the end of November.  Well that certainly got a rise out of her.she started to hurry through her script giving me a "configuration " number and a name and a phone number of the grant specialist.  I was told to call Helen the "specialist" who wouldthen tell me how to get my grant. As she was trying trying to hurry off the line I asked her for her name and employee identification number! This really shook her up! She was stuttering asking me what did I need that for. She said her name WA elena. But that she didn't have an I.d. number.  I said man u do work for the government right? Yes she said well then you should have an I.d. no she said. I said I know for a fact that if you work for the u.s. government then you were issued an I'd. Tess she Saudi was well give it to me. No she said. Fine let me talk to your supervisor. That's about as far as I got. Another only sligvhtly more understandable female got on, told me pretty much the same excac4t thing, and thentold me to call held shell explain everything in more detail.  I said ok,but hold on for a sec. You telling me I was chosen, because I pay my taxes on time, I don't have a criminal recited, and I never filed for bankruptcy,  right. Yes,yes, that is absolutely correct. And did you get that info from the censushto. Oh no, but we work for the government so we have access to all kinds of resources.   Wow I said. Cause your resources must really suck. Because I don't meet any of those qualifications?  She basically went silent then went back to. The script, call Helen she'll explain it all to me. Well for s**ts and giggles I called Helen.  I got about as far as the 3rd hello before she hung up on me. I called back immediately and the line rang busy. I waited tried. Again,  busy everytime.  Called from my work phone and it rang through but no one picked up. I'm. Sure the didn't have my work # on their list so they wouldn't answer. My cell number on the other hand has been set to go straight to busy signal. If anybody knows some one in law enforcement please please bust these people!?

Same story as the others, although my father was told Helen Jones. He was told he was being offered the grant because he and his wife had clean records and had "stayed out of trouble". They're getting quite brave when the use such a ridiculous reason for a "government grant".

This scam must be working because this just happened to me about 30 minutes ago. I was not happy to get the call as I was home sick from work. I heard a man with very bad English telling me the Government was going to send me money. The rest is the same as the others. I wish there was some way to get these people out of the country.  We all could use help from our government, This scam may make people pay the money in hopes to get the money they are offering them. NO WAY. Hang up if you get this call.
