Just got a call from an oriental woman telling me that I had been picked as one of the 1500 people to be awarded a government grant of $7000.  I didn't have to pay it back and she wanted to know how I wanted to receive the money.  I ask her what department of the government she was calling from and she repeated the grant info.  I then asked her for the website I could go on line and read about the grants.  She said she had a website and then hung up on me.

Well these guys must still be trying to rip people off. I see that most of these posts go back as far as 2010. It is now 2014 and I just got a call from a 1 (202) 407-9906. He explained to me that I was "demography selected" because I pay my bills and taxes on time and don't have a criminal background. They then proceeded to make me call another number to give my information to receive my ($7,000) he said that I needed to purchase a $4.95 "green dot" card but it would only allow them to transfer $1,000 so I needed to put $240 on the card and it would let them transfer up to $8,000. I told him I would not be able to do that and he quickly ended the phone call. I would like to thank everyone that posted because without it I wouldn't have known it was a scam. I can't believe people would actually come up with a scam where we're getting this "grant" for being such good people and paying our taxes and bills on   time. How about you scam the people that screw over the government and leave us good citizens be.

Got an exact call from a guy with a very strong accent yesterday and the number was unavailable he went on and on about the grant money gave me a confirmation number and to call this 206 201 2083 and speak to kevin his supervisor. I called the number to entertain the call and he went on about it and told me all I needed was this confirmation number my id and to send a 250 processing fee..... So I asked him why would I send you money to get free money?  and he says mam it's only a one time fee you'll get it back and I said haha how about not, why don't you go fk yourself and try to scam someone else and then I hung up..... he was beyond pushy!!!! be careful out there people

I got a call from (202) 621-5429
DC, USA, the lady with an indian accent named Mary said I was chosen for a $7000 grant that would not cost me anything and that I never had to pay it back. I figure if something sounds too good to be true than it probably is so I didn't fall for it. They said they just needed my account number or a
Visa to add the funds too and I said not interested and hung up on them! It's sad how many people fall for the because they actually think the governent cares about helping the hard working people, yeah right!

I have had four different phone calls just today alone with three different numbers. Either a 0000 on caller ID or it says private number. First of all he had a accent, could have been middle eastern, and told me he was calling form the Federal Government in DC with a congratulations call because I had just been approved for a grant. I didn't believe one freaking thing this said guy so I asked him to take my name off their call list  because I had not applied for a grant!. He said his name was  "steve" told me he didn't have authorization to remove my name. I then asked to speak to his supervisor and he said I couldn't, I got a bit louder and told him I wanted to speak to his supervisor and proceeded to tell me I couldn't and that he was going to hang up and I would continue to receive calls for this grant. Second time it was a woman and she was trying to get my name and address so she could give me a contact number, when I refused she hung up!  PLEASE do not give your info out to some stranger on the phone!!!!!!

I got this same phone call haha the man said hello, my name is---- and started saying some foreign name then cleared his throat and said Michael.  I was like sure it is... I called the number he told me to call and told the foreign woman who answered that this is obviously a scam and to not call my number again with this b***s***.  As soon as she heard the word scam she interrupted me saying f*** you f*** you a***ole and then hung up.   To think our government hires people with such profane language to work with our federal reserve grants branch (our whoever they said they were with) hahahahaha this ridiculousness made my day.

Twice today did I get this call. The first time I could not understand a word he was saying; I asked twice where he was calling from, and after telling me for the third time I was silent for a few seconds then just said "what? All I understand is cash, are you saying cash?" He hung up at that point. A few hours later I received a second call, having to ask a few times where he was calling from and he finally said "I work for the government". At this point I opened up my laptop and started to play on Facebook while he gave me the same story; I was one of 2000 chosen by our government to receive a grant for seven thousand and some odd dollars, that I do not have to pay back nor is it taxed. I am receiving this because I haven't filed for bankruptcy, I pay my bills on time, etc in the past 6 months. The money is to be used for house improvements, medical, debts, yada yada yada. Then he asked how I was going to use the money. I told him my health is very bad and will use it for medical, which is true. He then asked how I wanted the money and I told him that our government would just send it in a check. He said it couldn't be sent in a check for some dumb reason, I was reading a story from the Huffington Post at this point. He said that he could put it in my bank account or on a card, and it doesn't matter if it has a negative balance and that I would get it in 45 minutes. I told him to send it through PayPal, but he didn't quite understand that he didn't need an account number to do this. So I kept telling him to give me a minute while I find my card; I kept asking for another minute everytime he started to say something. After about 10 minutes, and I just finished reading another article, we agreed that he will call back in 30 minutes, that I will have found my card by then. He has yet to call back. What I don't get is that he had my new mailing address of only a month and a half, he had my phone number of course, and my email address. The only conclusion I am coming up with for them to have my new information is that they bought it through PCH. I have not signed up for anything new and most my cards I have yet to change. Also, I received something in the mail from PCH with my new address on it recently an it is the only thing that I know of that works with third party companies. Does this theory make sense to anyone else? I am a part of nothing that sells my information, plus nobody has my new information yet. Before I moved, I never received calls like this. I hate to point the finger at PCH but for me it is the only logical explanation. Can anyone else think how these scammers may have gotten your information? I know I am quite careful about what and where I leave my info because of situations like this, among many other reasons.

I just received a call from # 058. it was a man telling me the same story about a grant of $7000. I found it fishy because it were true they would've just mailed it. I was going to ask him for his name and number and I lost service and the call dropped. I'm glad it dropped and i hope he doesn't call back.

Received a call from 202-738-1384. The lady told me I qualify for a government grant of $7,000. After taking my bank info she asked me to call a "Mrs Crystal", supposadly her supervisor, to confirm the transaction. The next number I called was 202-436-9919.  She told me I would need to go to the Western Union office and send $330 in cash as a security deposit. She assured me that by midnight tonight I would have $7,330 in my bank account. I wanted to check online and found this site. Thankfully I did not send any money! I hope this helps!

Just got the same call today. Unfortunately I gave them my bank info before checking online if it was a scam. Fortunately I DID NOT send any money through Western Union as they requested. But now I don't know what they will do with my checking acct info. I told the lady if this was a scam and I gave the $330 they requested it would kill us financially and that we are very poor. (which is true since I have major medical problems and my husband has received 2 pay cuts in the last yr.) Any ideas what I should do now? Will I need to close my bank acct? The lady who I was referred to call after the first call was simply named "Mrs Crystal". It was that (202) 436-9919 number that others have written about.  She was posing as the supervisor. They both had very thick Indian accents. When I questioned her about it being legitimate she said "well they aren't all scams are they?" I guess they hate us that much and feel justified in doing what they're doing. I'm so sorry for people who fell for it! All I can say is, God bless America!!!! I am so happy to have been born in this country.

Prank Call
I received a call from the "government" wanting to give me $7000. They wanted my bank account number or credit card number. He was very difficult to understand and when I told him to just send me a check, he told me that the government doesn't like to send money through the mail service. Since I received my tax refund this way, I knew it was a scam. The number is 202-621-7457. Do not give them your information!

Been receiving numerous calls from 000-000-0000 for several days now with no one on line.  Decided to hold the line open today and it finally rang through to a woman with a very thick foreign accent who identified herself as a federal employee and said that my name and cell phone number had been selected to receive a $7000 grant that would never have to be paid back.  I told her she was scamming and hung up.  Apparently they are obtaining information about us from the employment searches we are doing on-line.  Wish there was a way to tell which one, but like most of you, I am visiting numerous sites everyday.  It's bad enough not being employed.  We don't need the scammers too.
