Claimed to be "ERS", a debt collector about a defaulted school loan.  As far as I know I don't have any school loans in default.  I said to send me something on paper and the lady got very aggressive and made threats about garnishment, and said I could only set up repayment schedule on the phone, that the loan would remain in default until I dealt with her on the phone.  That sounds like a scam to me.  I told her to mail me the paperwork and hung up.

They called my job threatening me through my coworkers

This number just called me three times in a row and an unknown number has been calling my cell phone for the last week. I can only assume it was the same person. They left a message saying it was about a reference for my younger brother. Well my younger brother has been at the same job for 5 years I can't imagine he would need a reference after that time. I called back and got an automated machine recording saying that the call would be recorded and thought it sounded sketchy. Thank god I used this site to look it up.

Debt collector, but gives no clue on what debt they are collecting. Makes me think its a scam to get info from people.

This number left harassing phone message with a call back number of 888-377-5000. This is a debt collector with no conscience.  Use your caller id & call block to block this number.  Phones with these features have been around for awhile, so it is worth your peace of mind.
