I received the same call, but she said she was Officer Heather Gray from the FBI.  I hung up the phone.  If the FBI wants me they can come and get me in person.

Received 2 calls from these a***oles.  I called the number back (202-506-8501) and there was a recorded message about going to "magicjack.com" (computer phone service) to sign up and get this number, which is currently "unassigned".  I'm hoping that these people got caught and that the number is no longer active.  Definitely a SCAM.  I hope that nobody fell for it.

Also received two phone messages from "IRS" threatening suit unless I called back immediately.  Call back, and you get an answering machine asking for your participation in a servey.  Totally bogus.  We don't owe taxes.  Intimidating however to the more trusting among us.

Thank you for information!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!! I received calls today from 202-506-8501 claiming they are with the IRS and I must return the call or have my attorney return the call before legal allegations are brought against me.  I called the number back, and exactly what you sad :He said that the IRS had conducted an investigation against me, there is a discrepancy of the taxes I owe and that I will have criminal charges brought against me, including tax fraud and that I will be arrested tonight, that someone will be at my home with an officer to arrest me and that I will spend 6 months in jail if I do not pay the amount of the back taxes, he said was over $6k (which I owe the IRS nothing and my accountant can and has verified this w/me today).  The scammer said that if I do not pay this amount of money, plus legal fees and costs which amount to over $13k, that they will cease my personal property, etc.   They claimed to have sent me a certified letter to my former address (last year) which I did not respond to.  I told the person on the phone, that I owed no taxes, that I file my returns timely and pay my taxes timely; that my new address, since Oct 2013, was on my most recent tax return (filed in March of this year) and that I had received no notices from the IRS - NOTHING, no letters or cert. mail requests at my home nor has my accountant. He said it was my responsibility to notify the IRS of my new address via some form and said that I should just talk to the officer that will be at my home this evening to arrest me, he then hung up!  I emailed my accountant while on the phone with the "fake IRS Agent" and they assured me this is a scam to get my personal information and or a credit card to take money, etc. and to google the number and I will see the other stories about this.  My accountant also assured me that the IRS is aware of this scam, and that I should report it again to the local news, to the FTC and to the Treasury Inspector General at the IRS 800-366-4484.   If the fraudsters continue calling me, to ask them where to mail the check for the payment and that will help track these lowlife criminals down and arrest them.  They sounded official - they are very good, experienced scam artists - even though I know I owe no taxes and file my returns on time, use a reputable accounting firm, and knowing that the IRS would notify me and / or my accountant if they had any questions about my tax return(s), would audit me or something like that, these scam artists still scared me!!  The IRS is a powerful organization and with everything going on with them now, you never know!!!!  EACH OF US MUST REPORT THESE PEOPLE TO EVER

Got a call this morning from 202-506-8501.  Recorded message stated that I am under investigation by IRS and I must call this number back or risk arrest and prosecution.  Caller never mentioned my name.  Call similar to others listed here.  I reported the scam to the IRS at their web site:www.tigta.gov.  IRS always contacts citizens by US mail.  SCAM...I might call back just to mess with them.

Received the call at my office from Heather Gray aka Robo-IRS Agent. Same story as everyone else. I have dealt with the IRS on several occasion during my life with reference to my tax returns.  Every time they sent me a letter and asked me to contact them to discuss the situation and it was a local office not one in Washington DC. This is a scam. Do not send them any money and tell your friends to beware as well.

A female called my parent's phone number and asked for my daughter then corrected themselves and asked for me but a last name I no longer use. Said they are from the IRS and that I HAVE to call back and ask for Eric Jones. I called back using *67 and asked what division this was. Someone with a strong Indian accent, and a lot of "call center background noise", told me it was the IRS Criminal Investigation Division.  Hahahahaha  I hung up. Scam.

It's a scam.  Foreign extortionist scammers.  If your phone has a "block" feature, you can add their number(s) to it.  Or you can get a call blocker - Google them - you can find many for $60 or less.

What should you do?  Report them to the REAL IRS.

WASHINGTON ? The Internal Revenue Service today warned consumers about a sophisticated phone scam targeting taxpayers, including recent immigrants, throughout the country.

Victims are told they owe money to the IRS and it must be paid promptly through a pre-loaded debit card or wire transfer. If the victim refuses to cooperate, they are then threatened with arrest, deportation or suspension of a business or driver?s license. In many cases, the caller becomes hostile and insulting.

?This scam has hit taxpayers in nearly every state in the country.  We want to educate taxpayers so they can help protect themselves.  Rest assured, we do not and will not ask for credit card numbers over the phone, nor request a pre-paid debit card or wire transfer,? says IRS Acting Commissioner Danny Werfel. ?If someone unexpectedly calls claiming to be from the IRS and threatens police arrest, deportation or license revocation if you don?t pay immediately, that is a sign that it really isn?t the IRS calling.? Werfel noted that the first IRS contact with taxpayers on a tax issue is likely to occur via mail
Other characteristics of this scam include:
Scammers use fake names and IRS badge numbers. They generally use common names and surnames to identify themselves.
Scammers may be able to recite the last four digits of a victim?s Social Security Number.
Scammers spoof the IRS toll-free number on caller ID to make it appear that it?s the IRS calling.
Scammers sometimes send bogus IRS emails to some victims to support their bogus calls.
Victims hear background noise of other calls being conducted to mimic a call site.
After threatening victims with jail time or driver?s license revocation, scammers hang up and others soon call back pretending to be from the local police or DMV, and the caller ID supports their claim.
If you get a phone call from someone claiming to be from the IRS, here?s what you should do:
If you know you owe taxes or you think you might owe taxes, call the IRS at 1.800.829.1040. The IRS employees at that line can help you with a payment issue ? if there really is such an issue.
If you know you don?t owe taxes or have no reason to think that you owe any taxes (for example, you?ve never received a bill or the caller made some bogus threats as described above), then call and report the incident to the Treasury Inspector General for Tax Administration at 1.800.366.4484.
If you?ve been targeted by this scam, you should also contact the Federal Trade Commission and use their ?FTC Complaint Assistant? at FTC.gov.  Please add "IRS Telephone Scam" to the comments of your complaint.
Taxpayers should be aware that there are other unrelated scams (such as a lottery sweepstakes) and solicitations (such as debt relief) that fraudulently claim to be from the IRS.
The IRS encourages taxpayers to be vigilant against phone and email scams that use the IRS as a lure. The IRS does not initiate contact with taxpayers by email to request personal or financial information.  This includes any type of electronic communication, such as text messages and social media channels. The IRS also does not ask for PINs, passwords or similar confidential access information for credit card, bank or other financial accounts. Recipients should not open any attachments or click on any links contained in the message. Instead, forward the e-mail tophishing@irs.gov.

More information on how to report phishing scams involving the IRS is available on the genuine IRS website, IRS.gov.

I have a digital call blocker just  to stop this type of call, I called back just for grins , got a live voice a guy named Shaun with a heavy Indian accent , he wanted my wife and knew her name, said he was from IRS , knew it was a fraud so played along , he read the entire scenario about why  he was calling, that she has legal action against her ( no money amount mentioned ) that if not taken care of she would be arrested by our sheriff , ( we don't have a local sheriff) that she may spend 5 years in jail, her passport would be cancelled ( she has never had one ) and would be reported to the credit agency's  among other things he rattled on about , so I asked how to get back to him , he said have her call 202-506-8501 , am reported this to" no call list "and the FCC and IRS
