I got the same call a few minutes ago. I called the number back, and all of them have a similar Indian accent. The one that called my number pretended to be an IRS worker. However, he doesn't know the IRS procedure at all. I searched the number on Google and found a number of complains against these jerks. I hope FBI can bring them to justice.

got this call today just like the others who have posted here.  I was busy so they left a barely intelligible message on voice mail.  literally the only thing I could make out was the return phone number in 1 1/2 minutes of talking in his message.  I called back just to mess with them and got a live person who said to me "F_ _ K YOU" and then a hang up.  yes, I'm sure the IRS would definitely respond that way.  geesh.  just don't fall for it and make sure to tell your friends and relatives the same.

I got a call from this # on march 1st at 9 am. He said that it was  " The Criminal Investigation" from the IRS. He said that i was in violation of federal rules and regulations, Deficiency in income Tax, Theft of US govt tax. He said that i will be imprisioned for 90 days. Under section 51B, Section 52 C, Section 101C. My property will be confiscated,my bank account will be ceased. When i told him that i have not received any notices from the IRS, he told me they have been at my doorsteps 3 times already. He gave me the dates Dec 24th, Jan 7th and Jan 14th. He even went so far as to say that my neighbor sighned on my behalf. He said that the police will be at my front door in an hour to arrest me. When i questioned about the neighbor's name , he  said he was reading my rights and was informing me of my crimes. When i questioned him further he said it was regarding my 2008 and 2009 tax return. His accent was bad but i cant identify from which country. I just hung up on him and called the  Sherriff department in my county. His voice was very threatening and was able to  fool me for a little while, even though i deal w/ the IRS on a regular basis and know that IRS never calls.  IRS sends notices in the mail. I hope he gets cought. I am calling the IRS.  Please be careful and do not give any personal information, and do not let him scare u.

WASHINGTON ? The Internal Revenue Service today warned consumers about a sophisticated phone scam targeting taxpayers, including recent immigrants, throughout the country.

Victims are told they owe money to the IRS and it must be paid promptly through a pre-loaded debit card or wire transfer. If the victim refuses to cooperate, they are then threatened with arrest, deportation or suspension of a business or driver?s license. In many cases, the caller becomes hostile and insulting.

?This scam has hit taxpayers in nearly every state in the country.  We want to educate taxpayers so they can help protect themselves.  Rest assured, we do not and will not ask for credit card numbers over the phone, nor request a pre-paid debit card or wire transfer,? says IRS Acting Commissioner Danny Werfel. ?If someone unexpectedly calls claiming to be from the IRS and threatens police arrest, deportation or license revocation if you don?t pay immediately, that is a sign that it really isn?t the IRS calling.? Werfel noted that the first IRS contact with taxpayers on a tax issue is likely to occur via mail
Other characteristics of this scam include:
Scammers use fake names and IRS badge numbers. They generally use common names and surnames to identify themselves.
Scammers may be able to recite the last four digits of a victim?s Social Security Number.
Scammers spoof the IRS toll-free number on caller ID to make it appear that it?s the IRS calling.
Scammers sometimes send bogus IRS emails to some victims to support their bogus calls.
Victims hear background noise of other calls being conducted to mimic a call site.
After threatening victims with jail time or driver?s license revocation, scammers hang up and others soon call back pretending to be from the local police or DMV, and the caller ID supports their claim.
If you get a phone call from someone claiming to be from the IRS, here?s what you should do:
If you know you owe taxes or you think you might owe taxes, call the IRS at 1.800.829.1040. The IRS employees at that line can help you with a payment issue ? if there really is such an issue.
If you know you don?t owe taxes or have no reason to think that you owe any taxes (for example, you?ve never received a bill or the caller made some bogus threats as described above), then call and report the incident to the Treasury Inspector General for Tax Administration at 1.800.366.4484.
If you?ve been targeted by this scam, you should also contact the Federal Trade Commission and use their ?FTC Complaint Assistant? at FTC.gov.  Please add "IRS Telephone Scam" to the comments of your complaint.
Taxpayers should be aware that there are other unrelated scams (such as a lottery sweepstakes) and solicitations (such as debt relief) that fraudulently claim to be from the IRS.
The IRS encourages taxpayers to be vigilant against phone and email scams that use the IRS as a lure. The IRS does not initiate contact with taxpayers by email to request personal or financial information.  This includes any type of electronic communication, such as text messages and social media channels. The IRS also does not ask for PINs, passwords or similar confidential access information for credit card, bank or other financial accounts. Recipients should not open any attachments or click on any links contained in the message. Instead, forward the e-mail to phishing@irs.gov.

More information on how to report phishing scams involving the IRS is available on the genuine IRS website, IRS.gov.

I keep getting phone calls from this idiot calling himself Robert Colvin with a heavy accent. Saying I owe the IRS money from over 5 years ago. And that they sent notification to my house in person on Christmas eve of all days! Now that I have been avoiding them they are sending the police out in an hour to arrest me and drag me to jail and cease all my assets, drivers license and everything.  He also told me the same thing yesterday. This fool has no idea how the gov't works at all. And as soon as you ask question to try and get to the bottom of the situation he hangs up the phone. DON'T GIVE THIS FOOL ANY PERSONAL INFORMATION.  SUPER SCAM.

The guy said his name is Stephen Williams with a heavy Indian or Middle Eastern accent. He told me to call Kevin Brown at 202-506-9274 the first day and 202-506-9297 the second day.

A man by the name of Robert Colvin called my parents on their private line at their assisted living facility and said he was the IRS with the Criminal Investigation Department.  My mom asked me to call them back on her behalf.  When I googled the number she gave me, 202-506-9297, it said it was a hoax.  When my mom called them back and said she had no idea what they were talking about they started yelling at her and saying they were going to lock her and my father up in jail.  When I called back, they tried to ask me who I was.  I did not give information, but instead asked who they were and that I believe them to be a hoax.  He started cursing at me and hung up.  I fear that this group may be trying to prey on older citizens to make them feel they are in trouble and need to send money.  Please take a look.  Thanks.

I had the same call three times today (2/24/2014).  They left a pre-recorded message each time.  Needless to say, I was very suspicious.  First couple of hints for me: strong accent with and English name, second it was a 202 area code, not an 800 number.  I will be calling the police to see what can be done.

This is part of a fraud scheme. Do not call them! Call IRS directly:
Website: http://www.irs.gov/uac/Telephone-Assistance
IRS Number: 1-800-829-1040

Someone with an India accent called from 202-506-9297 and ask for my Mom saying there was some tax issue and its urgent that she call Chris Brown at 202-506-9274. If you call first the number, it say its the Criminal Investigation Investigation with a woman's voicemail greeting sounds a bit suspicious. They never pick up. If you call Chris Brown's number, the voicemail seems like broken Russian for the same Criminal Investigation Department. Only this time it has the "IRS" in from of the department name.

I spoke to IRS and their agent always gives name and agent number. These fraudsters are getting smarter and started to announce themselves as "IRS" Criminal Investigation Department and is giving you employee number as well. Take their employee number and case number and call IRS directly. That's the only way you will be sure you are truly dealing IRS. I also contacted the accountant and they said to ignore. IRS will not contact you like that.

Chris Brown called me back and when asked gave his name and employee number. When I said I already spoke to the IRS, will verify his agent number and ask him for the case info (PLEASE DO NOT GIVE ANY PERSONAL INFO TO THEM), they simply say you can wait for the criminal investigation proceeding AND HANGS UP ON ME! That to me is a threat to scare you into calling them back. Don't fall for it. I suspect they will send you a letter to ask you to go to pay your taxes or face legal action.

You can simply ignore them. It would be better to file a police report and let the police pay them a visit!

I also got the same kind of call from Chris Miller claiming from IRS with a case # and ask me to call back immediately, very urgent. When I called back to Kevin Brown's line it was Paul White answered. He threaten me they will subpoena me and take away my driver license and cease my bank accounts if I don't pay. So I hang up the line. They all have very heavy accent.

We got the same call 02/22/14 at 10:45am.  Hope this post helps protect others being scammed.  The phone call was definitely a foreigner from INDIA.  They were very threatening and demanding that you send them money within the hour for taxes that were due 'because our expenditures did not match our income'...the idiot did not know we file jointly and so into the conversation he hung up on us.   I'm filing a police report; the caller left a msg on our answering machine as we picked up the call.

We've been getting a call from these guys for 2 days straight. Its obviously a scam.
He claims his name is something like, "Chris Miller," and speaks with extremely broken english. He said that he worked as an investigator for the IRS (though I'm not sure why the IRS would hire someone who can hardly speak English) and said that we had some sort of discrepancy on our taxes. We called him out on it, telling him we knew he wasn't with the IRS, and he replied, "Oh my god!" and then hung up immediately.

Just catch this guy already. Its getting annoying
