I called them back about 40 times at odd times 3,4 5 in the morning and made sure they paid for their little game with me...and finally a person picked up and this foreign sounding voice tried to be stern but could not hold a candle to my rant ...the number no longer is in service ....thank you very much

>>> Why doesn't the phone company shut these jerks down? <<<

Because it's not their responsibility to do so unless YOU complain to "the phone company."  Face it.  You probably wouldn't like it too much if your phone company monitored all your calls and decided to cut you off if you said something they didn't like.

And in case you haven't noticed, there are a LOT of "the phone companies" these days.

But you are in luck, because I have some information to help you stop them.

Your caller is some coward hiding behind a magicJack device plugged in at some God-forsaken corner of the world where there is Internet service.  He's no better than a common criminal using a magicJack device and your fear the same way a common thief uses a toy pistol hidden in the pocket of his overcoat to make a bulge that looks like a real gun.

You can verify that this is a magicJack number by searching for it at http://www.phonevalidator.com .

This scam has been extensively researched at
http://www.pindropsecurity.com/consumer-fraud ... irs-phone-scam/ and it was found that magicJack numbers are frequently used, and many of the scammers are operating out of India.  There is even an audio recording of a call returned to one of these numbers and a written transcript of the recording contained in links from the Pindrop Security blog.

MagicJacks are readily obtainable outside of the United States for about $100 US and can come with up to a year of free calling to the U.S. and Canada.  In India, see, for example,
http://magicjack.in .
So it doesn't take long to turn a profit, even if only 0.1% of the people they call are stupid enough to believe the scammers.

In addition to the regular reporting channels, e.g., the Department of the Treasury, the FTC, and/or your local state attorney general's office, you might also report the abuse to YMAX Corp.  I have seen reports that they are pretty good at responding to complaints and may be able to permanently shut off a magicJack device, if necessary, so that it can never be used again.

The YMAX Corp. main web page is at:
http://www.ymaxcorp.com
and their site giving information on how to lodge a complaint is at:
http://www.ymaxcorp.com/contact.html

Note that the "contact" website gives a clickable link to a "live chat" where you can make your complaint.

Political Call
This number is operating from Dubai and Pakistan, but pretending to be from IRS. Don't pay them any money and ask them proof to confirm their identity and badge number. They called my friends even on Sunday. IRS doesn't have a holiday in US? 202 506 9364 can operate from anywhere in the world not just in Washington DC.

I am reporting to my local police immediately for fraud, intimidation and even impersonating a federal agency and officer. You should also do the same.

Just got a robo-call that left a message on my answering machine with this number.  So I called it back and "Kevin Brown" answered, obviously an Indian given the accent and he then told me that I owed back taxes and that I was being sued by the IRS.  If I didn't pay today that I would be getting arrested by my local police dept.  The red flags were going off so I started asking more probing questions about his name, location, ID number, etc and then he hung up on me. I could totally see the elderly being easily abused by this scam.  I hope these people rot in hell.

called and left message this morning. Knew it was a scam, so my husband called to mess with them. He asked the guy for the federal ID number, the guy tried to give his employee ID number. after my husband asked him numerous times for the federal ID number not employee ID, the guy on the phone said "why are you wasting my time you stupid idiot". my husband told him that he was a GBI agent, the guy could not hang up fast enough. Tried to call back to mess with them again and went right to voice mail. Loved it. IRS employee yea right.

I got a call from them 5 days last week leaving a message and thrice this week - so I called them back and swore at them in Hindi and Voila! He started swearing back in Hindi! IRS Agents don't do that for obvious reasons :-) It was pretty comical. I suspect he won't be calling me back anytime soon ;-)

Got the same message, but I believe ours was someone other than Ms. Gray - can't remember what she said.  But yes, "This is the IRS, blah, blah, blah, Get an attorney, blah, blah, avoid jail, blah, blah," and then, "have a good day".  Agree - why can't the phone company shut these numbers down!!!  The elderly get scammed all the time by this stuff and it needs to be stopped!
