I have received mail, stating that I have won a prize, and have had a cashier's check posted on my email address, from Bank of America for 2.5 million dollars. Even though I know this is a scam, how can I stop it .? Nathan

Received a call from someone name Joe or John from Department of Commerce saying I had cancel out of some subscription for American Sweepstakes and told me to call 202-470-4851 to confirm.  This is a bogus call and I never returned the call.  I suggest that if you receive such a call that you stay away.

A man with a thick accent called saying that I won $450,000 from American sweepstakes Network The number he called from came up as (202) 470-4845  and said his name is Mark Eviston from the Federal Consumer Protection Agency and his badge number is USG6369. Funny, I never entered any sweepstakes?

My elderly mother (who had been sending sweepstakes information) was contacted by a "Robert Paige" that she had won $750k.  Thankfully, she called me.  I googled it and found that these numbers 888-978-5788 and 585-633-3370 led me to this page.  I was talking to her on the mobile phone when he called back to "complete the paperwork".  I told her to tell them to fax the paperwork to her accountant (me) and that I would complete it once I had my attorney review it.  He said, the "HE" had to fill it out.  I think that was the final convincing stroke for her to tell him that she didn't believe him and that she would report it to the police.

They wanted to know if her bank was close buy and did tell her something about insurance.  I can only suspect that they were looking for SSN/Bank Account No/ or Credit Card to charge something fraudulant.

We have also been receiving these types of calls stating we have won monies but need to wire money first to insure the delivery of our winnings. The amount of sweepstakes that are being mailed to our address has become overwhelming not to mention the phone calls. My advice to all is DO NOT even enter one of these thinking you might win because it takes way more time to get rid of the mailings and phone calls then it takes to just shred the unopened envelopes. Here are 2 more names and numbers to be aware of : Philip Davis 202 580-8132 and Luis Mendez 516 203-4484. I so wish these scammers could be busted and punished.

Ok, this is now downright appalling . Same unknown caller, same number as in aforementioned reports, however, a VERY different experience than those previously conveyed. Received call early a.m. from 202-509-0685. Answered to the sound of heavy breathing, almost a panting. Alarmed at this point, I began to inform the caller that i was going to have the call traced when a man on the other end suddenly says hello, then tells me that he's calling, "regarding my pants, specifically, what's in my pants." This sicko then tells me that he will pay me $4.50 to send him a picture of my genitals. I am totally disgusted, it was a total scam. I sent the picture but never got the $4.50. Just remember, if it sounds too good to be true, it probably is.

Just received a call from a guy who stated that he ws from the Dept. of US Commerce asking if I had signed up online for a sweepstakes.  I told him no.  He asked me if I was (name) and I told him yes.  I then asked how did you get my number.  On my caller ID it showed Caller Unknown.  He told me he got my information from an online sweepstakes.  He proceeded to tell me that what I had won was going to be turned over to the Federal Reserve.  Immediately, I realize this didn't sound right.   I hung up the phone and began to google to see if anyone had experienced this same incident.  Glad to know it's a scam and that I did not provide him with any additional information.  Its a shame that some people don't have anything else better to do with their time than to scam people

I received a call today from this number saying I had won $450,000.00 and needed to reinstate an insurance policy with Prudential to cover delivery of the cashier's check.  I called the number he gave me and it said Prudential insurance but all agents were busy.  I checked on Google and got this website.  He said it was from
American Sweepstakes and was a 2nd. prize award.

Event Reminder
I received a call from this number today.  He said he was John Green from the Dept of Commerce and asked if I had been notified of an American Sweepstakes 2nd prize of $450,000.00.  He gave me the number of Russel Bennet was employed by Prudential and it would be necessary to talk with him to obtain an insurance policy on the money.  He told me where to go to send the $4,500 to him for the required policy -- Western Union.  Fortunate that I had to go to my bank to get the $4,500 in cash to send.  I asked one of the bank employees about the situation -  both Green & Bennet had both warned me not to reveal what I had won.  The banker call them both to have them to explain the need for insurance.  After a brief and very guarded discussion with both of them as he tried to explain there was no need for insurance for the delivery of a check.  It was a scam.

John Greene just called me with the same information regarding American Sweepstakes. He mentioned that he had left me a telephone message and sent something via the mail. Not true.  He then said that his supervisor needed him and would call me back. He did not have time to go into the insurance scam.

I received a call from this number today.  Caller said it was Dan Goldberg from U.S. Dept Commerce and asked if I had been notified of an American Sweepstakes 2nd prize of $450,000.00.  He asked several questions about notification to which I answered "no."  I asked "are you really from the U.S. Dept. of Commerce?" and he said "yes mam."  "You can either say - I want to accept this prize" or "no, thank you" and no questions will be asked.  I asked for a moment to confer with my husband and he said "yes, mom" and when checking with my husband, he felt that it was a scam so I said "no thank you Mr. Goldberg."

Same gentleman called, ID John Greene with the Department of Commerce, 202-509-0685.  Called around 11:30 a.m. April 25, 2011. Told me call 866-978-7569 and talk with a Mr. Bennett for making arrangements in regards to delivery through Brinks with my winnings.  Of course Mr. Bennett was employed by Prudential and it would be necessary to talk with him to obtain an insurance policy on the money.
Needless to say I just wrote the numbers down and called the Attorney General Office here in Indiana to report the names and phone numbers that were given to me by Mr. Greene or whoever in the heck he is.

I just got a call today stating I had won a half mill from the American Sweepstakes Network.  The Sweeps had been trying to contact me for the past 6 wks, but had been unable to reach me.  Therefore, they passed the info to him (John Greene) for a final try.  Of course the insurance had lapsed in the meantime.  i would have to Russell Bennett at Prudential (866-978-7569)  to insure the money transfer across state lines because it was so much money....pr section 7 of the Patriot Act!  John said he was with the Department of Commerce in DC, phone: 202-509-0685.

I also received a voice message on my cellphone today, from a John Greene of the Dept. of Commerce, he stated I only had a few days to call back and claim a sweepstakes prize or I would lose the claim, he left the same phone number to call back.  I knew it wasn't true, cause I didn't enter any sweepstakes, raffle, etc.

This afternoon my husband got this exact call from Washington, DC, from a "Paul Young"; said he was an officer with the Commerce Dept. assigned to his "case". I burned up his ear with skepticism and sarcasm, but he kept his cool. I told him I'd be more than happy to DRIVE TO DC to get the $450,000 but he said it had to be delivered to the address on the "entry form". There was NO entry form. I'd like to slap this guy's face!!

A guy from this number just called me about 20 mins ago.  I was disturbed so i jumped up and Googled the number and i see these other posts!  The guy said he was from Dept of Commerce in DC but his actual name went over my head. I tuned in more closely when he said some sweepstakes people were trying to notify me but responses were being returned.  Then he claimed to have my address, fishing for me to verify what he had so i hung up.  Extremely CREEPY!!
