same scam - slightly different phone number (202-558-4607) - caller ID says Washington DC and the people always introduce themselves as "Agent ..." with a business name implying government connection.  They want all my info so they can give me money (either a grant or a lottery winning that I supposedly emailed in for).  I called the number back just for fun and got a message machine saying simply "please leave a message".

are you crazy or ignorant - nobody should EVER send $$ to anyplace without independent confirmation that it is who it says it is - this number cannot be confirmed!

Unfortunately I was taken by these people, I sent them the money required. I'm upset and at a loss.

Yes, this is a scam! After all the lies and numerous calls i flipped out and decided to keep calling them which was kinda fun i must admit. Finally the guy admitted to me it was a scam and i ended the conversatiin wih god bless u and he just laughed. Pretty entertaining.... everyone should try it. Lets tie up their phone lines!!!!

I got a call they said that I won an 8,000 dollar grant. Said they was from a federal grants dept. Gave me a security code and an approval code and told me that I could do western union that I needed to call 202-558-0345 so I did, I talked to a women named Rachel wilson at ext 177 she said for me to go to a western union and send a 160 dollar deposit to them that I would recieve 8,150 in the grant. So I felt uneasy about it and called The Attorney Generals office and talked to them about and also done a search online for that number well the number brought up unlisted name , it was a cell phone and they was from washington dc . When I talked to the attorney generals office they told me that it was a scam that there was a couple of red flags.1 was that they did not give me a legitimate address, to they called from a cell phone and the companys name was unlisted.  that next time some one calls like that to tell them you want them to send you something in writting before you go to any type western unions or any kind of information.  that your not doing business over the phone. I sure hope this helps everyone.

I just got a call from this number and they told me that I got a 8000 dollar grant because I had a clean record. She then gave me a grant approval number and a code number and told me to call 2025580345 when I called this number the lady informs me the money will be coming western union and I will have to go there and have 210.00 and my id so that I can get my  money i will have to call her back and she will tell me how to fill out the forms. Once the deposit is recieved I will then get a western union tracking number for the amount of 8210.00
I will not be going to see if this is real. just don't have a good feeling about it.

Caller: 202 area code fake fraud scams and

The guy you talked to is a smooth talking liar hired by the credit card scammers.

I just got off the phone with a representative from "the u.s. treasury department"  for federal grant money.  He stated with such a pleasant voice "we have chosen you and  3,000 other people as a thank you from the government for having no problems with the government so we want to give you $1,000.  How would you like this money given to you?  I can give it to you by bank account, credit card, or western union.  I said knowing that this was most likely a scam that " i don't have an account or a credit card" he then said we can send this to you in 45 minutes the $1,000 (how convenient) to any western union location around you. He then began to ask me questions about is my name spelled correctly and what is your zip code as well as my address that showed up on the screen. I then told him that the address was wrong that he had and I decided to entertain this call and really get to the bottom of what all this was about so I said yes my new address is(pause) then said hold on in order for me to give this information to you I want to speak with a member of management before proceeding in which he kept saying yes I will give you this number after we have received all the information I need to know first.  I then said okay let me have the number now so I can write it down and my confirmation code and security code now so that I can see it in front of me.  He hesitated and argued kindly with me but finally gave it to me and as I was speaking to him put the number on Google and this page popped up and I am so glad it did so that I was able to confirm that yes it is a scam.  I refused to continue giving any information to him and he insisted on finishing the call but he knew I was not going to change my mind so we ended the call.He will tell you that all they need is your information then you hang up with him and then call this phone number and speak with a representative and they will process your information and get your money sent to you.  Nobody ever gives away free money just because they want to reward you for being good for the government.  Please people do not give out your address or any other information.  That is how they can find out everything they need o you and scam you and your identity and other things. THIS IS A SCAM!!!!!!!!!   Thank you for reading this and hopefully your not to late.

These people called me and asked me to send 260.00 to get a grant I have won for 8,000 , this is a bad scam! And they need to be caught!!!!

I just recieved a call, they have been calling me for the last few days and I always miss the call. So I finally caught it. The lady name was Rachel Smith with a very strong accent. So She was giving me the whole script about the government grant and asked me for an account number so I said I don't have one. Can you give it to me in cash. She said sure you can get it in cash can you pick it up today? I said no.. Well she gave me a money approval number GA2526 amd she gave me a security clearence number of 1456 amd she said to call her financial manager at 202-558-0345. I told my husband let me see if this is for real. So I called the number and no one picked up it just rang and eventually hung up. So thats when I searched it on the web and just as I suspected it was a scam. The call came from a 724 area code...I am pretty sure they are going to call back.

yep they called me too said they were at the treasury department for the government..they changed their words up a little and said i could receive 8000 dollars but i had to wester union 170 dollars to a charity of their pick.lol why cant i pick the charity...so i called my bbb and they said they think its a scam.so i called them back and the foreign lady got up set.i was laughing so hard

Direction from FBI... File a complaint on the website of  IC3.gov this site is set up for these types of scams so all FBI offices have access to the same information given to track these scammers down.

This is a scam! Every one is correct I have the same story... How ever they got extremely upset when I questioned everything. " eddy Johnson" proceeded to get very up set and told me to do inappropriate things to a mans gentiles... Most of you know what I'm referring too. Then proceeded to threaten me stating he knows where I live... And such. So what every you do just make sure you tell them to politely " F off"

I've been getting phone calls on my cell phone from phone # 970-002 and when I answered it I would get a gentleman with a Mid-Eastern voice ask for my name and when I told him that I am the one he called he would hang up, so last time they called, I talked to a female and she mentioned that I qualified to recieve a grant worth $ 7,000. She tried to get my bank information, but told her that I didn't have a bank account, so she preferred that I call the 202-558-0345 and provide them with an approval code DB-211 and they would provide me with Western Union information so I can pick up the money, but when I was talking to a gentlemen by the name of Harry, he had told me that I had to come up with $ 275.00 to pay the Federal Bank to release the $ 7,000 and I thought to myself that this is total BS and all it is a total scam because I've been to reach Harry to ask him about direct deposit, but haven't been able to get a hold of anybody there.

I received several calls from 970-002 over the past month. I rejected the call everytime, with the thought that it must be some bill collector. My husband answered my phone when a call came up restricted and was given a spill that I had been selected to rec'v a 7000.00 grant from the government. I her he say western union I dont have a checking account, then he motioned me to the phone, and the Indian female began the whole spill all over and verified my name age and phone number, I asked why I was selected and she informed me that I have not had any run ins with the government I pay my taxes on time and blah blah blah, she then to me to hold for my govement ID number AN458 and told me to call 202 558 0345 to receive my 7000.00 in 45mins at the Western Union nearest me. I called the number spoke with Melvin Paige who claimed he worked for the IRS and that he had just submitted my info to the ferderal reserve bank in New York so once I paid a one time fee of 260.00 that will be used for a third world country charity, I should head out to a western union nearest me call him once I made it and he would release my money control number. I told him I dont have 260.00 and I wouldn't before Friday. He said no problem save the info he had given me and not to share it with any of my family or friends or they would have a shot a getting my 7000.00. As bad as I need 7000.00 right now. But thank you Lord that you are my provider and will supply for all my needs! My mind told me to type this number in google and see what would come up and low and behold the answer to my thoughts have been confirmed, who offers 7000.00 for you to pay 260.00 why not deduct the 260 from the 7000.00? It's a scam, be careful and seek ye the kingdom of God and all things shall be added unto you.

Received a call from them (Federal Grant Dept - spoke with Cynthia) claiming I qualified for a $7,000 grant and issued me a grant ID number, which I had to take to a Western Union office, obtain a yellow form and call the number back.

Being VERY sceptical, I contacted the nearest Western Union office to inquire if the were familiar with any "Grant Scams" and they informed me that there were several scams using Western Union.
