I was contacted by a man telling me that because of my good credit I am being awarded a grant of $9,000. I had to call a woman Catherine Young at 202.559.0687 who kept reading from her script. I got bored and hung up on her. The same people called my co-worker just three months ago and new her credit card information. She too hung up on them and called her credit card company and these people had made charges to her card without her authorization.

Please do not give these people any information that they don't already have. I was amazed that they new what city and state I lived in already.

A Frank Gomez called me and said that I had 4,000,000 dollars. He then continued to ask me if I had received the seven letters that they had tried to send me through the mail. He said would you love to win $4 million, I said well of course I would think anyone would. Then insist to tell me to send over $2000 to Western Union. And if I didn't I would not be following government rules. He also said that I would not receive my funds if I did not send the money Western Union. So I told Frank their would be absolutely no way you receive over $2000 in funds to Western Union if I didn't receive $4 million in my money to pay taxes or anything else....so I just hung up the phone.

Ana, the first call was from a guy and said the same thing, and said i was selected to win so much money around 7750 i believe, and to go to western union and forward the money, well i did, and now I am out of 260.00, well before all this, i sent the money the girls name was "Kimberly, and was a 202 number i did this, and she said okay the money is being wired to your account, well than she said that a higher authority would be calling me, and the women's name was Valery, and she called and said I would have to send 450 dollars because I would have to pay Ohio taxes on the Grant, well thank the good lord above i didn't do this, i thought something was up, why would you have to pay taxes on a grant that you won? So, when I started the research and all i have noticed all these complaints and such, so first thing Monday I am going to the local police department, social security department, my bank, mind you looked on my bank account and was in the hole over 2grand, my husband went to bank filed a report, since we don't have checks and they were taking my information and using checks online to get money out of my account. So this boils down to scam, and please please please people do not fall for this, people will do anything for money, and I was naive to believe it, and fell for it, and now probably will never see that 260 again. And I should of listened to the lady at the western union place when she said, " do you know who this is, and you know this could be a scam" and I said, yes, she is my financial aid advisor for school and in all reality she wasn't she stole her information. Just really mad at myself, because I borrowed the money from an uncle, and now have to come up with the money to give back to him. So sad, what people do in this world to other people, and the said part of it is, it went to India, and the person had a foreign accent, but came up on the phone a Washington dc number, and here in all reality i guess they can use websites to call from any place and be in a different country. just a said scenario. Sorry for going on and on, just want people to be aware this is a scam and don't fall for it like i did.

Think about it, why send $250 by Western Union when they can just take the money from the same money ?

The same people called me yesterday, they told me to go to the Western Union and send $250, since I am in need of that same amount they say I will get, I wanted to believe them.  They got upset with me because I told them I will go to Western Union next morning, they wanted me to do it immediately!  I just cant believe there are people doing such a thing... I thought, if I have been selected to receive that money, why can they just take the $250 from it and send the remaining?  I am glad I did my research and read these posts from you guys.  Now I am certain that it is a scam, lol  These people should be reported.

omg - They just called me, too. I've been getting tons of hang-up calls on my recorder (I screen everyone and do not have caller ID). So I finally decided to pick up. Could hardly understand the lady. She says I'm getting a government grant since I pay my bills and taxes on time. Wrong! I've filed extensions for three years due to a tax screw-up with a company I worked with involving fraud (on their part), so I knew right away this was a scammer! Get on the DO NOT CALL LIST! YOU HAVE TO RELIST EVERY 3 to 5 years I think.

I got a call and "Richard Dawson" said I was chosen to receive a 7,000 dollar grant. so I knew this was a scam but wanted to just see what he was talkin about. he told me to go to western union and send 250 to get the 7,000. so you know what, i hung up and called back like 15 minutes later and i was like ok im at western union, and he was like what color form you got and he started naming colors so i was like red. and he was like no get green. money send form. thats all he kept yellin. then i pretended like i was asking a lady for the right form. the phone started breakin up. so he said he was gonna call me back. i was on my couch doing this the whole time. so he called back and i was like what do i need to fill out and then he was like are you playin with me? and then i nutted up on him and said yeah bi*** cuz you playin wit me! then i hung up. and then he called back and said he was gonna sue me for playin with the government....ooh that was my entertainment for the day!!!

i got the same thing. they called me like last week and i told them i couldnt do it. i gave them call back this week to see if the offers still stands and it does. so dnt be stupid its a complete scam. way of making broke people excited. lol.

I received a call from unknown number which claimed that I won a 7000 dollar from the government grant and I actually applied for the government grant about six months ago and it was supposed to come out in this month, I was about to believe the idea and when forward and gave them my bank account number as the routing number as they requested. They give me a confirmation number contains two letters and three numbers attached with the phone number they claimed that its the grant manager's number to call him in the next day and give him this confirmation number as well as my full name. In the next day when I called they asked my to give them my bank account number so as to transfer to me the amount and to send them $ 250 as the processing fee and they don't claim any tax and any other payment and will not take this amount from the grant I won. I told them ok, I reviewed myself and asked why shouldn't I google this phone number and the information they gave me. Then I searched and found its a big and scary scam. I just regret that I provided them with my account number and my routing number as they requested.


PLEASE PLEASE DO NOT DEAL WITH CALL COMES FROM THIS PHONE NUMBER AND BE ALERTED REGARDING THE CALLS YOU MIGHT RECEIVE FROM UNKNOWN NUMBERS....

I got a call last night from an unknown number and claimed the same that I have been selected by the US grant department and I won $ 7000, I regret that I wasted my time with them and how much I was stupid and I was really at work when they called, but actually I gave them my account number and they told me to go to Western Union and transfer 250 as amount for the processing. I said ok, but then I went online and searched the info they gave me as well as the phone number and realized the its a scam, I thank god for not continued the stupid behavior which i was about to fall in a big mistake.

Well its comforting to know that I am not the only one. I was lucky enough that I was at work and didn't drive to a Western Union. I asked for their information and id I was receiving anything in the mail and this lady that didn't speak english told me its free government money. I was iffy. But im in a financial bind and so I unfortunately gave them my info. Im calling my bank right now to have them put a hold on my account or something so I know they don't take my money! Just in case! I wish ida looked this up before doing so!

Got the same call @4:30EST and another one last week for 202-470-0037. Same exact story - $7,000 grant. DO NOT DO.

Calling those scam artist is going to solve nothing because they don't give a damn about the people they hurt with their scam. I don't understand how you could have provided a total STRANGER with your credit card information.

The best thing everyone can do is call your local Attorney General's office and file a
Report.

My son received a call from that same 202 area code number and was told that he was selected to receive a $7000 grant from the US STATE GOVERNMENT. I did not provide them with any info and told them that I wanted THEIR info and they hung up on me. They sound like they are from either India or the Philipines. I called them back and told them I was reporting them to the FBI and Richard laughed and
Said I can do whatever I want before I hung up on HIM.

My a son just received this very call.  Stating he was selected as the recipient of a $7,000.00 government grant.  He called the number back after me looking up the number and being led to this website reporting this as a scam.  He listened to what was said, they informed him he would have to wire, by Western Union, a $250.00 payment.  When he told them we were on to their scam, the lady hung up on him!!  I'm just wondering if this is a  scam involving people who have recently used Western Union for a money transfer, as my son received one from us a week and a half ago!!  I seriously hope no ss#'s have  been compromised!!!
