I got a call from this number on my cell phone earlier today, they didn't leave a message.  Reading the other posts on this page and on several other pages they all seem similar, but I NEVER put my cell phone number on job applications, so i'm not sure how they got it!

My experience is the same as the others. They said it was about a job. No one ever came on the line. I was on hold for 15 minutes and then the call disconnected.  I feel it was some scam as well. My application for jobs online will be done with a different approach henceforth.  It is tough enough to find a "real" job without putting up with this garbage.

Got a call today Friday August 28th from Career Network regarding a job simular to what the other posts have said waiting about 5 minutes for a "live" person to pick up to ask me questions about an on line job I applied for last week. The message keeps breaking in saying a person will be with you shortly to confirm your questions and ask you some others so be by a computer etc...... After 5 minutes I hung up knowing it was a scam.

Got a call from this earlier today and got a voicemail message telling me about giving me a job interview. There were many weird things one was that it said it tried to contact me before and I never seen the number before or remember getting a call from this number.Another weird thing about it is that it never stated the company's name and it was a computer that gave me the message. That voicemail message was fishy and left me confused, know I believe it some sort of scam.

I was called by this number and heard two or three recordings telling me to stay on the line. I was then connected to a woman named Sherri with Career Network and said she was a verification specialist. She said that she was calling about a legal assistant position I applied for, but couldn't tell me where or which company, and said the interview would take anywhere from 5-45 minutes. I told her that I didn't have time, but kept pressing her for information. She never mentioned any schools or for-profit education institutions, but still sounded sketchy. She told me that she was calling from Orlando, Florida, but the area code of the number that called is Washington, D.C.

I have been finding that 7 out of 10 jobs on the internet (on ANY site) are usually a scam. After sending my resume to a few and realizing later that they're surely a scam, I receive a couple calls like this each month.

Is anyone else receiving calls from this number, or calls that are similar in nature?

Hey..

I got the same message and call from the number 312-283-2647.  I got this call previously and I heard the same message. Last time I did not pick up the phone. Now today 09/24/09 I got again this call. I listen to the same voice message so to try I gave a call back. I talked with the person ...they asked me if I have applied for the position.. They come up with exact job requirement I am looking for last one month.. So they just confirmed my number and told that I might get call from the client regarding job.

If something comes up I will update here again. It may not be scam.

Thanks

Automated message claims I applied for some job and requests I call 202-591-2220 for details. I live in CA, and the area code on the return number is Washington D.C.  Apparently the call is coming from a company called Career Network.  Needless to say, I did not return the call, and will avoid answering any calls coming from this number in the future.

if they are 'verifying' info that you supplied in a job application/inquiry, that means that they should read to you what info they have -so you can 'verify' it.

if they cannot do so....scam

and this is a scam for online schools

Same experience this morning -- while at my job.  Got a call, but don't answer it at work.  When I saw the number (202) is a DC exchange I thought maybe a congressman/senator was returning my call (HA!).  So I searched the number -- this site was very helpful!

Sounds like they are in the business of gathering information and looking for potential school students. Just another scam.

Career Network is behind this.  You can Google them & most of the info out there on the net is negative & reaks of scam.  They got my number thru a scam job ad on Craigslist which, at the time, I thought was legit. I too went to their lame site & naively filled out some info & put my cell.  I figured if potential employers needed to contact me, the cell was the way to go.  Now I know better.  I wish Craigslist would be a little more cautious when allowing job scammers to post on their site.  But heym, it's free so I guess you get what you paid for.  I've learned but am quite concerned about 'who' now has my info.

I answered it.  It was a job placement agency, they got my info following my response to a job posting on craigslist.

Been recieving calls and voicemails from this number for the past several weeks, asking me to call back and verify my information. Finally, i answered today and the guy on the other end tells me that i filled out an application on some website (which i never did. I have a job and am not looking) asks me to give him my name and address.I said to him that if i filled out an application with them, and since they called me, why dont they know my name and address? he says "well sir this is an automated machine and we dont know who we are calling until we talk to them. So he basically admitted that it was a scam by saying that. idiots.. i asked him to take me off thier list and if they ever call me again they will be reported

Event Reminder
The danger about job hunting is putting your resume with your contact info hoping to get an interview with a legit company who's looking to hire you, but instead, spamers like 202-591-2220 take advantage of the situation to steal your information by pretending to help. This has to stop. What can we do to stop this madness. I am pretty sure this is one of many cases.

I just got the call like 5 minutes ago. Left voicemail. You can definitely tell its a recording because it has static in it. Said ''Career Network'' and it was a lady. She named herself Jessica and said she tried calling before. This is the first one I've got so obviously they haven't. Said the employer was confidential until we gave THEM our info. hahaha yeah right. This is why I don't answer calls I don't know. I always google the number first before calling back!

Ireceived a call from this number from Jessica today. I advised her that I had never applied for a job through Career Network.  She told me that they job-share with Craigslist or Monster. She verified my information and said she would forward my information to the employer who would contact me directly. This is the most weird situation.

Well, at least I'm in good company.  Same call - applied for a job - need to verify information.  Last question was whether I was interested in furthering my education.  It's a shame these folks have to prey on people who are out of work or looking for a better position.  They know when you're out of work you'll return every call.

I've too had it with this number calling me. I've received it 7-9 times a day with a different person calling. The police won't do a thing to stop it simply because a cell phone is like private property.. They can't invade it to prevent it.

This is the second time I received a call from my cellphone today after applying a job online.  I typed this number 202-591-2220 and led me to this site. I called back and they want to verify my existence.  They are from the Career Network.  I told them about the complaint and report I gathered from the internet regarding their number.  So, I asked them to delete my information in their system.  Just call them back back and ask them to cancel your information or resume that they have in their system.  They will cancel that for you.  I asked about who my employer is and they said it's confidential.  I told them I need to know whom I am applying for and I don't want my information or resume flying around the world on the internet. So I asked them to delete, cancel everything about all information about myself.  She knows my name and apparently thinking she was looking at my information on the spot. Do not apply for an employer that is CONFIDENTIAL.  I applied online at Job.Com.
