These people call frequently - display shows "member alert." I finally called back to find out who they were. Call answered by a machine that said it was the President's Coalition which claims it exists to "educate the public on having principled conservative Republican leadership at all levels of government." The machine gives you their spiel and then goes on to tell you to press 1 to make a donation.

02/13/2014 I was just called by a fake DEA Agent named Brian Torres asking me for money to forestall my immediate arrest for purchasing prescription drugs over the internet. This is my second call from him in 1 year.
This was an extortion call which is not listed in the call types below.

I finally answered, after them calling me once or twice everyday for the past 2 weeks.
He said that he worked for the government and I was eligible for a Federal Grant!
B***S*** - calling during the government shutdown hahahaha. I told him not to call me again, that I was reporting them through their phone number and to stop harassing me at work.

Them Cotten Picken India-ians! When I find a way to find out where their robo dialers are, I'm gonna tell Osama Bin Lanen's buddies there's American Infidels there. It'll kill 2 birds with one stone!
Frankly, there's not much we can do about it right now. However I do like the one that calls weekdays exactly at 09:00, 12:30, 16:30, and 18:00, rings 3 times and hangs up. Reminds me to take my morning break, Go to Lunch, Start cooking Dinner, and to call my Business Partner for our daily wrap up.
Least I don't have to pay for that service.
I work for a company that ******* (sorry can't say), but I see just about everything for a caller including their number, even blocked, restricted, and unlisted numbers. My home phone goes through the 'system' via my laptop. By the end of the first ring there's an entire page of info about the originator. Ant the system knows if the number in the caller ID is spoofed because it's originating outside of the Area code displayed, or is an out of service number.
The big issue is that the Spoofers gain access to Private and Public Phone networks and use them to place the calls. Much the way Doctors and Police used to make calls from an outside phone and make it appear the call was originating from the police station or Hospital. Today, those people have cell phone numbers that belong to 'Blind Companies' If you are able to get a as I did from a 911 record for a Dr. and trace it back, you'll find it belongs to XYZ company. Look for XYZ company and you'll find it's some telecommunications company ever heard of.
In similar fashion, when dialing through another network, the networks allowed the originator to enter a call back number that would be displayed, ergo their office number, etc. While typing this I decided to try it. I know the network number for a local hospital. I programmed my cell phone to call it, wait for the 'IN' tone, select the option (out of the manual) to enter a caller ID number of 234567890, and then call my home phone. Took less than a minute to program it, and 3 seconds for my home phone to ring after pressing GO. The computer showed SPOOF Flagged the area code, number, and origination to be the Hospital.
Finally, 90% of these Spoofing calls are coming from OUTSIDE the north Americas. My Mother is 86 and still rocking. Her elder and younger Sisters both fell for a spoof. In the first case it was paying for a subscription to a Magazine, in the latter case she lost $3600.00. I ask, how stupid can you be. She Western Union-ed the money without even calling her daughter to see if her grandson was there! People fall for this all the time. In the first case I was able to call my cousin and have him close his mother's checking account before anything happened.

Callers claim to be Ann from Political Polls of America http://www.politicalopinionsofamerica.org or other lies. If you contact them in any way, such as ''Take us off your list'' opt-out online or by dialing 1 or 2, then you are instead validating that a human ear is responding to the Turing Test and placed permanently ON their SUCKERS LIST. The only valid information on their website is a regurgitated gallup.com RSS newsfeed, another trick to appear legitimate. Nowhere on the site is there a telephone number or address or even a way to engage their services = RED FLAG!
''Political Survey'' is their excuse to circumvent the National Do Not Call regulations. They claim if I take the survey I'd receive a free 2 day cruise to the Bahamas or a gift card. Truth is - hard sell of condo-timeshare! There are actually two scams here, the initial cold-call canvassers who get paid by the ''free vacation'' crew who trap you on a cruise for high pressure vacation rental sales.
They also abuse these numbers:

If you can't block the number or forward it to something like a movie time recording, your phone may allow you to id the number as SPAM and assign NO ringtone to it so it doesn't bother you. I had to do this since I can't block it.

Sorry to tell you, but Scammers don't go by the Do Not Call List. That is only for legitimate telemarketing companies. Anybody can dial random numbers, which is probably what is happening with this number. Hope you have a good day. :-)

It's a scam. My voice mail recording states that I am on the no call list and I only ever seem to get one attempt to contact me....even from illegals such as this one. If you GOOGLE the number you should be able to see who you are dealing with.

I got a call from this number once and all my numbers are on the no call list as well. Now I also include that information in my voice mail recording. Since then, I don't have any problems with telemarketers......

I enter the phone numbers in my cell like this:
Z Telemarketer (with no ring)
Z Scammer (with no ring)
Z Auto Glass (with no ring)
Z Political Telemarket (with no ring)
Z Discover Collecter (NO RING!)
etc. When "Z Telemarkter" contact numbers are all full I add a new one "Z Telemarkt" You get the idea, it works. I cannot keep up with complaining to the useless gov't and their uselss website.
By putting the "Z" in front, the name is at the bottom of my contacts list.

Alas, the Do Not Call list is voluntary. Meaning only reputable companies pay it any heed. Which tells you about the companies that to not comply. Thus, if you are on the list, ANY telemarketing scam call is from a non-reputable outfit, and likely a total rip-off attempt. In my case, I am partially disabled, just getting to the phone is a hazard (when I don't have it with me). Perhaps I could sue them under ADA. (as they are bogus, probably won't work. Rats.)
DNC did help, I agree with Ben, the number dropped. Still get s few, and that is frustrating. If DNC were mandatory, it might get all of them. Partcularly if we had the option to include political and fund raising outfits. I've not heard any candidate (from any party) advocate this.
