No, it's not possible (you'd KNOW if the IRS wanted you) but if you're questioning stolen identity, etc., call the IRS using a number listed on their website. You can also request your free copies of your credit reports.

That said, as many others have said before me, THIS IS A SCAM. If the IRS -really- wanted to contact you, honey, you'd know it.

I'm sorry. Your story was here before I saw this thread. This story makes me particularly mad, because we are a country that welcomes immigrants.

No, this is not how our country works. The IRS is the Internal Revenue Service. They handle taxes. But....they never call you if they need to contact you. They will only do so by mail or in person. They do not have the authority to deport you. That falls under the jurisdiction of INS (Immigrations & Naturalization). They do not call either. They will contact you in person.

Any time a person posing as a government agent asks for a GreenDot card, you can bet it is a scam.

Breathe easy. The IRS will not contact you over the phone. They will only do so in person or by mail.

Also, the IRS is not in charge of deporting. That belongs to INS.

no he is not...he is a scammer..sounds convincing no doubt...but he is not from IRS or any government organizations..he is a crook who forces us to believe him.. he is punishable by the law not us... we need to sign a petition against him and his assistants, but the sad part is he leaves no trails for law enforcement agencies to track him down... the number he calls from does appear that it is from Washington D.C. and when asked he also tells address of Federal IRS correctly..but c'mon won't he do bit of research before doing such spam???
I am one of the victims..I am new in this country and had no idea what IRS even means..he told me that there were serious criminal charges against me like money laundering, tax fraud and what not and the police is here to arrest me and then subsequently deport me back to India.. I just could not understand what wrong have I done..when asked he told me that I have to pay first the due amount and then he will send me my restitution form and I will be able to know what wrong I have done.. he then made me go to ATM, withdraw money and then made me send it to him through Green dot money pak reloadable debit cards..now this form of transaction cannot be traced..and does government work this way in US??? I mean even if u buy a matchbox u get a bill in US..and he charges tax and doesn't send any bill or any document to me till this day..and whenever I inquired he just threatened me to deport me back and he will refund my money... and till date I haven't received a single document or single penny..he is just a freak who tries to take advantage of others fear.. nothing else...he might call himself officer james morgan, shane white, Jason sth, david morgan etc...he has this heavy indian accent..and he might not be even in US...might be operating this in a call center in India...I reported my case to police, bank, IRs..all have same thing to say...U were fool that u paid someone over the phone...now I was one..and the mental harassment I received along is much more frustrating than the money I lost..but this is life...I learnt a lesson and I need to move on..anyways I hope my story will help people...than-x folks , take care and act smart... I lacked it at that time around :)

I got a message from this number (202) 600-4440 from a man named "Officer David Morgan" from the Federal IRS and that I was audited by the IRS and owed money due to under reported income. He also claimed that I will be reported to the police for fraud if I didn't pay the amount owed and that there will be a suit brought against me. I never received a letter in the mail from IRS or from this man since the phone call as he had stated that I will sent a letter in the mail sent to me right after he gets off the phone.

You are being scammed, and it has been posted continuously in this thread..

Seriously, the first clue is getting a green dot card! Big red flag!  Secondly, the IRS does not call you like this at all! If they have a problem, they mail you!  And 3rd, the local irs can pull your information up period!

Please do file reports with the FBI, your state attorney general,FTC & FCC..

The thing is - scammers use call "spoofing" to make numbers look like they're from the IRS or other legitimate agencies.  So just because a number shows up on your caller ID does not mean it's actually a legitimate agency or organization calling.  That's why you should always be careful of people calling saying you owe this or that.  ALWAYS research and find out for yourself if what they're saying is true BEFORE paying money.  Plus, as stated, the IRS and USCIS would only contact you via mail if you did owe them anything.  They NEVER call and threaten over the phone.

Why should you feel humiliated?  YOU HAVE DONE NOTHING WRONG!  You're also very new to the US and because you don't know how things work here, you've been scammed out of hard-earned money.  If anything, you should get angry at the scammers and focus on letting others know what you've gone through so that they don't fall for the same scam.

Its a scam so don't fall for it.

I had also got a call Yesterday. He spoke very confidently as a officer from IRS...Morgan. ..lol .Its a scam written all over it. He told all the crap about I owe money to IRS n all, will deport me. I just told him I will call him back, later he called me back again after an hour  to collect the money and after searching everything online, I knew it was  scam, the bad words which I gave him ...uffff. I then went back home and again called on that number from unknown number and just blasted them with bad words. If you call on that number they pick up and say IRS..lol

F.Y.I
(The intent of the fake call is to collect money in the sum of $2550 in a form of a voucher purchased at vouchergreen.dot or moneypak from a 711 or Walgreen stores.  The call was made from a phone number 202-600-4440. They will  threaten team members with deportation for errors on the I-94 (Alien Registration Number was not filed properly).  Try to get as much upfront information from them as possible and under no circumstances give them any information.  They will say they are from the UCICS. There is no reason that the  IRS or UCICS or Department of Homeland Security should be contacting you.)

How to check to see if it is the IRS contacting you:
http://www.irs.gov/uac/Report-Phishing
"The IRS does not initiate contact with taxpayers by email to request personal or financial information. This includes any type of electronic communication, such as text messages and social media channels."

You receive a phone call or paper letter via mail from an individual claiming to be the IRS but you suspect they are not an IRS employee ?

Phone call:

Ask for a call back number and employee badge number.
Contact the IRS to determine if the caller is an IRS employee with a legitimate need to contact you.
http://www.irs.gov/uac/Contact-Your-Local-IRS-Office-1

If you determine the person calling you is an IRS employee with a legitimate need to contact you, call them back.

Letter or notice via paper mail:

Contact the IRS to determine if the mail is a legitimate IRS letter.
If it is a legitimate IRS letter, reply if needed.

If caller or party that sent the paper letter is not legitimate, contact the Treasury Inspector General for Tax Administration at 1.800.366.4484.

http://www.irs.gov/uac/Don%E2%80%99t-be-Scammed-by-Fake-IRS-Communications

"If you receive a phone call, fax or letter in the mail from an individual claiming to be from the IRS but you suspect they are not an IRS employee, contact the IRS at 1-800-829-1040 to determine if the IRS has a legitimate need to contact you. Report any bogus correspondence."

This scam has been going on for years.  They always threaten you to "act quickly" because the more time you have to think about it, the more likely you'll see that it's a scam.

From NBC news:
http://www.nbcnews.com/id/42347772/ns/busines ... r/#.UgrjsHy9KSM

And your first contact from the IRS will always be written notice, not a phone call:

http://www.irs.gov/taxtopics/tc201.html
"Topic 201 - The Collection Process
If you do not pay in full when you file your tax return, you will receive written notice of the amount you owe, a bill. This bill starts the collection process, which continues until your account is satisfied or until the IRS may no longer legally collect the tax; for example, when the time period for collection has expired."

"The first notice you receive will be a letter that explains the balance due and demands payment in full. It will include the amount of the tax, plus any penalties and interest added to your unpaid balance from the date the tax was due. You may pay the amount due by sending the IRS a check or money order, payable to the United States Treasury, with a copy of the notice."

So he said they wouldn't know your case? Thats a line of male cow bowel matter right there! All they have to do is pull you up on their computer! And like everyone has already said, the IRS does not call you, they send anything they have to do with you via snail mail. This is why he doesn't want you to go to the office personally, because they will tell you its a scam!
