Got a call from a number of unknown origin, the called, Joyce Lee, advised me that I had been preapproved for a $7000 Government grant that I never have to repay.  She then confirmed my name and address.  Asked for a credit card or debit card number, I gave her an expired card number with a new expiration date to it.  She gave me a number to call a John cooper and said that I have to call right when I get off the phone with her.  I called the number and John cooper answered, asked if I had any money on the card, I told him no.  He said I needed at least 40 on the card in order to have the funds deposited.  I asked him why and his reply was that the amount to be deposited was a large amount and I needed to have at least 40 in there for this deposit.  I told him I have to call him back friday and hung up.  Believing that this may be a scam I looked the number up and it comes back to an unpublished cell phone in D.C.  My number was YA335.

I just got a call from a woman with an Indian accent congratulating me for being the recipient of a $7000 Government grant.  She went on about the fact that I had been selected because I do not have a criminal record, pay my bills on time, have not filed bankrupcy,.... She asked how I would like the money delivered. I said by check in the mail. She told me they were no longer sending checks in the mail because of problems in the past and that I would need to give her a checking account or credit card number.  I told her that was suspicious and I didn't feel comfortable giving it to her.  She gave me confirmation number for my 7K grant and the phone number of her supervisor to call (202)-621-0158 and confirm that I was the right person to receive the grant.  I didn't call the number. Instead, I googled "$7000 scams" and the whole scenario that I had just experienced was repeated over and over again by others.  The woman called me back in 20 minutes to ask if i had called her supervisor.  I told her no.  I went on to tell her what I had found and that I knew I was being scammed.  Her supervisor (who I couldn't be transferred to during the original call) took the phone away from her mid-sentence and started getting upset at me for not wanting the "free money."  I told him I'd gladly take the free money if he would send it to me by check in the mail.  He got angry and hung up.  The original call came from an "unknown" number and the woman said her name was Lucy Murphy.  The apparent supervisor's name was John Cooper.  Both had thick middle eastern accents and were difficult to understand.  It's a scam.  Do not give them you're information.

I got the call too about the supposed govt grant.  They knew waaay to much personal information about me to just let-it-go.  I went to the FBI website in hopes of reporting this scam, but the only link there to click is to report espionage or internet fraud  -nothing about phone scams.  I would think this phone number could be tracked  -couldn't it???  Then they could bust these people before they change their ph# and start all over again.

I received this same call  at my office today and they have changedd their grant to an unclaimed child tax credit ( sadly a bit more believable as I was a single monther) Lucy I think that was her name could barely understand her  asked how I would like my money sent to me I said by check. she said OK and what address to send it to. I fibbed and told her that I only have a  PO Box she said that was not a problem she gave me the name of her supervisor to confirm this was a legit process. she also gave me a confirmation code of RS003. I did nothing and showed my husband when I got home he being the smart one googled the number and found all these.  I hate this s*** if your going to try to scam me at least speak english!!!

I received the same phone call earlier today. The man who first called me asked if I wanted at $7000 grant check from the government. He continued to ask about my bank information. My name, my age, if i was married, my bank name, etc. He gave me the confirmation number (wb502) and gave me a number to his "supervisor", John Cooper (202-621-0158). John Cooper got very irritated when I told him I would not give him my bank information. He laughed at me and told me to walk outside, close my eyes, and open my mouth. I called the police and filed this incident. The police told me that they have been getting alot of phone calls about this and would compare the phone numbers with other numbers given. This is definitely a scam!

I have received the same call. I told her I wanted this sent by check and she said ok. I called the second number, 202-621-0158 with a confirmation code RS003 KNOWING that this was a scam. I then hung up when "John Cooper" could not seem to get my name right lol. Damn non english speaking middle easterns. :) lol So I have a voicemail from John Cooper saying,

"Uhhhh I put you on hold for a minute and you got disconnected. Please don't forget to call me back. John Cooper, 202-621-0158. Thank you. Have a nice day. Thank you."

I will call this number back and start asking them questions. Business name, address, any 800 numbers and see what kind of answers I get. :) They want to mess around..... well, so do I! :)
