This time the recorded message said they were "American Express Account Services"......SCAM!  They say they want to lower your interest rate but they really want your credit card number.  They call over and over and over and over and over and over and over and over and over and over and over and over and over and over and over and over and over and over and over and over and over and over and over and over and over and over and over and over and over and over and over and over and over and over and over and over and over and over and over andover and over and over and over and over and over and over and over and over and over and over and over and over and over and over and over and over and over

I was just getting ready to write a similar statement regarding the NSA. Proof positive that something can be done despite what the FTC claims. Insult to injury was the contest set up by the FTC where they would pay $50K to an individual (not individuals) who came up with a way to stop these types of calls and a lesser (cannot remember) amount to a company = individuals. The monetary ?rewards? being offered by the FTC are laughable. If the technology was created by an individual or individuals, they would not waste time with a measly 50K contest, they would sell it to a tech firm for millions. The FTC contest was an insulting ploy to make folks think they were trying to do something which they are not - too much money is involved just on the phone calls alone. Guess who would not be cashing in? Land and mobile carriers. They already have the capability to block these calls. For example Verizon allows each customer to block a mere 10 calls. Since this is available, they should allow us the ability to block an unlimited amount at a minimum which they do not. However ?..you can pay for this service. This is all related to an individual who is claiming his companies are utility companies and as such, he / the company makes money just by placing the call, it icing if they can scam you at the same time.  This slimy individual is profiting by using a loophole in the law ? stating he is a utility company. As a result, all of the other phone companies who are true utility companies are also making money per call as well. Google this for the entire story it?s extremely convoluted. This is why some of the callers never utter a word, the call is making the $.

The message didn't exactly say what company was calling though it was the same scam where they say they want to lower your interest rate.  When I got a live person on the phone she said they "used to be card member services".  When I asked her who they were now she hung up.  Scam, Scam, Scam.....

I received a call about lowering interest rates for my credit card. I pressed 1 to speak to a representative so I could ask them to remove me from their list. After sitting on hold for a bit, a woman answered. When I asked if she could remove me from their call list, she just hung up on me.

Our government must get a percentage of the take from these a$$holes, because I'm sure that if they really wanted this to stop they could make the phone companies reject these spoofed calls.  However, if you have a Samsung Galaxy, you just add these numbers to your phone's reject list - you'll only have to deal with each number one time, and I haven't reached any maximum number of reject listings yet (I don't believe there is a maximum).

I got one today.  Was waiting for call from a DC company and thought it was them.  "press 1 to lower your credit card interest rate."

Got some jerk.  Asked him for his street address.  Told him reason was so the I could send FBI since they are violating US Law (they called my cellphone unsolicited [illegal] and CP is on DNC list [illegal]).

All he could say was "yeah, right."

So my question is how can people just sit at desks and plan ways to steal money from people?

Yes.  Spoofed number. ATT and the other cell companies can block these since their equipment can tell spoof.  But some are not.  I have called many back and gotten real people, who I ask why they are conspiring to cheat poor people.  Usually they hang up.

I agree.  NSA should be protecting Americans, not snooping on them.

I have filed with the FCC and the FTC about this Account Services and nothing happens. This last time I got the call it was a female and I told her I really needed a b*** j** and would love to have sex with her and she said really? and I said yes. She then said ok we will speak with you tomorrow then hung up. Last week I got a guy and told him I wanted to f*** him up the a** and he replied well there are places you can go to get that and I told him that I want him and he hung up. A couple of weeks ago a female answered and I told her that I know where they are located and there was a bomb in their building set to go off in 30 minutes. She hung up. My wife told me that doing the bomb threat was bad and I could get in big trouble for that and I replied and told her that they don't dare turn it in to the FBI because they themselves are being illegal and are trying to scam people. I wished I could track them like we can track radio transmitions then I would go on a very rewarding fox hunt and god help them when I found them.

I get up to 5 calls a day and nothing will stop them.  Verizon will only block 5 numbers for 90 days so I followed the advice of someone on these spam boards.  Save all these spam numbers to your contacts, I usually give them a bad name but begin it with Z so they are not in the way, and assign them NO ring tone.  It doesn't stop them but at least my blood doesn't boil hearing the phone ring.  Every so often I count which name called me the most and block it.  One number called 26 times in 3 weeks.  I HATE these people and hope they burn in hell.

Assumed  to be Ann from account services as everyone else has noted...  but this one's a little odd-- I've received calls from this specific number 5 times.  Usually, it's only once or twice and then they never use it again.  Anyone else experiencing duplicate calls from this one?

These "Account Services" agents are criminals trying to get your credit card info.

> They will not remove you from their list - don't bother asking - it won't happen.

> They will continue to call

Options: call blockers on smartphones are good. they work reasonably well
or: speak with the agent and say:

> I'm interested - my credit cards / wallet is in my car - I'll be right back (like never)

> Did you get fired from McDonalds

> You're (pick a race). I don't do business with your kind.

> Ask for phone sex - my favorite

Yup, another credit card scam. My best advise: Don't answer calls from out-of-state numbers you don't know. They never leave messages, so ignoring the call is the most effort you'll ever have to expend.

Use this site for test credit card numbers and use an old person voice. (They find older people to be easy prey) When you tell them that they've been had, they will curse and ask YOU why you're wasting their time. Oh the irony...

CALL NEWTEK MERCHANT SOLUTIONS AND COMPLAIN: (414) 831-3900

Even the BBB entry for this company shows:
Payment Processing Company Named for Assisting, Facilitating Telemarketing Fraud
Date of Action: 6/18/2013

On 6/18/2013 the Federal Trade Commission (FTC) filed an amended complaint against the defendants behind the firm Treasure Your Success (TYS), which allegedly made deceptive ?cardholder services? robocalls, promising to lower consumers? credit card rates in exchange for an upfront fee as high as $1,593.93.

Among the additional defendants named in the amended complaint is a company called Newtek Merchant Solutions, and its former president Derek Depuydt.  According to the complaint, they approved TYS for a merchant account without performing customary reviews (such as obtaining telemarketing scripts, as required by their own procedures) and despite clear warning signs of fraud.  They continued to process credit card transactions for TYS, despite knowing that it had high charge-back rates, had fraud alerts on its credit reports, and was on MasterCard?s fraud monitoring program.

The complaints alleges Newtek processed $2.8 million in transactions for Treasure Your Success over a nine-month period until July 2012, despite inordinately high chargeback rates, the FTC claims.  The complaint also alleges Newtek also neglected to obtain telemarketing scripts before granting a merchant account to TYS, according to the FTC. Nonetheless, the complaint says, Newtek withheld as much as 20% of the telemarketers?s proceeds each month to fund a reserve account against chargeback losses.

The FTC
is requesting it be awarded preliminary injunctive relief, reimbursements of costs and permanent injunction to prevent future violations.
