2/17/14 - Same story different day.  Rec'd a text from 832-519-8870 located in Houston, Tx. about an item on Craigslist in Southern California asking if it's still available when the Ad mentions if the it's still posted it is.  Immediately got a similar text for the same item from 202-643-2606 located in Washington, DC a couple of minutes later - apparently they are the same person.  Internet documentation indicates this is a Craigslist Scam Artist using at least two different numbers.

Yep.  Same story here.  I am selling an item on craigslist and got a text message from this "oceanographer" who can only pay by check and is willing to pay $50 extra for me to hold it while he/she makes arrangements for pick up.  I knew it was fishy the moment I read it.  TOTAL SCAM!  BEWARE!!

texted me asking to buy my guitar amplifier for $375 and offered an extra $50 for me to hold it to next week.
he said he would send a cashier check/money order and when it fully clears with me he would take care of the shipping himself.
I asked around and my mom said cashiers checks are legit so i sent him my name and address

Be aware of this  caller or text if you receive it.................. this is a very dumb scam artist, uses the same story for everyone......oceanographer at sea..........come on....... seriously!

tected me saying he would send me a check for something i was trying to sell on craigslist. then i was to cash his check and a mover would come to pick up the item
