C'mon, you really think someone that works for the actual Department of State is really going to say what goes on?! First of all, this number is for assistance in getting a passport. Second of all, they're not called "call notes", they're known as "call tones". Whatever your opinion is about our government is, they're not that dumb to let anyone of their employees just go on-line and "blabber" about their anti-terrorist tactics or plans on fighting this! This is either a "bad trolling" job or we have ourselves a traitor! I agree it is weird that they would be calling your home let alone your cell phone, but it is what it is and like I said, it's a number to assist you in getting your passport somewhere in the District of Colombia (D.C.).

?The call is to verify phone numbers, that came up as being connected to organized cime and/or terrorist activity, are active and in use. The random series of beeps you hear, is a computer system sending out random dial "notes" to verify that the phone line is active and a "live" line and then to determine how many connections there are to it. In addition, it also checks to see if a dial up fax modem device is connected to the line.

All of this is to provide the possibility of wire tapping in the immediate future of that "suspect" line. If it is your line that you received this call on, then guess what? The Government is up to no good and is about to tap your phone.?

Fixed.

I'm one of those people that doesn't pick up calls from numbers I don't recognize.  A friend of mine works for the DoS and this number shows up when he calls me from work.  Don't listen to the guy above.  Someone could be calling you from this number for any reason.

Um....that is very bizarre.  I just received 2 calls from this and I have not been involved in any sort of activity in which a phone tapping would be required.  This is sort of disturbing to read.

Department of State??  Weird.  Why would they have my cell phone number?  No one spoke - there was just a random beep every few seconds.
