I received a call and they left a vm.  I called back today and they answered very informally.  Like you, they had information that they shouldn't have of mine.  Said they found errors in my previous years tax returns and I had a refund of over $2000, but had to pay $200 to have them deposit the money in my account in 6 hours.  I questioned several times who it was and the guy, with a heavy foreign accent, said if I was wasting his time, he was going to hang up.  I told him I would talk to my tax agent that has done my taxes for the past 5 years or so and have them look into the mistake if there was one.  He then tried again to get me to say that I would pay the $200 to get my refund.  I asked if I had money coming to me, why I had to pay $200 for it??  He then said he would put my file on hold for 5-10 days if I wanted to get the refund and hung up.

Received call this morning also. I know its a scam! Why?  Cause I work for the IRS!  We never communicate via phone unless it is our collection department and after we have received via postal mail the ok to call them regarding ANY situation. WA DC is not where the IRS is located. Local offices in each major city would make such calls.   Block the number!

Same here I got a call from this number today about a refund.  I too have not yet filed my taxes for 2012.  This is definately a scam.  I will be reporting this scam to the irs.

I just received a call stating that 2,073 dollars was my refund in which it wasn't so right there told me to call and see what this was when I called the indian man asked me for my info I asked him what company he was with and he said it wasn't a company he was working with the irs I told him I never got a call from the irs so since when they started doing that he gone cut me off and ask me do I want to relieve my taxes I went off on him and he hung up its sad that we have to go through this they shouldn't even have our information.

I checked with the IRS, filed a complaint, and am in the process of filing a complaint with the local authorities....I am also calling my local news station to alert others in my area.

I too received a message from this number. What scares me more is that when I called them back, they had ALL of my information, including my FORMER bank account information. They said the 2173 refund was due to me from last year's  return, due to an error in the accounting on my Schedule C for business. They also knew I had already filed this year's return, and that it was being processed. I contacted the REAL IRS immediately, and am going to the local authorities 1st thing Monday morning.

will someone please call the authority on these people.

I also recieve a phone call from the number stating they are the IRS.  I told them I do not do scams and that I was going to report them, the sad thing about all of this I have not done my taxes yet.

I received this same call today as well.  People are always trying to get something for nothing.  There is always some type of scam

I got a call from 202-656-6282..Said they were from the IRS and needed to verify information before getting refund. I know this is a scam

my husband was the one who got the call and it was a recording and was asking me if i got a call from the IRS saying that they owe us money about over 2,000.00. For him to call back and give him the right info and so they would be able to put it in our account. Thank god for GOOGLE

Oh he did tell me his first and last name. Bryan white. That's a hell of a name for someone that can barely speak english

Same thing just happend to me. I was telling him on the phone I can't understand anything he said.  So to verify the credentails he was reading off something. he had the last four of my social and my old address. I didn't even tell him anything and he had that information. He told me to call him back in one hour! Wtf! But when I do look up the number for the IRS building here in new mexico the number did turn up as another 202 number

Mypooh. I received a called stating that I was due 2173.00 from the IRS but each time I try and call back there is no answer.

My husband received a voicemail from this number stating we had an extra $2,173 refund waiting for us. Said they were the Internal Revenue Service the Income Tax dept.  They could release the money to deposit for us once we verified our credentials! NOT! The IRS doesn't call people and they would have a much higher tech voicemail system than this was! Do not call these people and give them any information. Let as many people as you can about this scam! Especially older people, they seem to target this group more.  SCAM< SCAM!

Received call as well for 2173$ i immediately knew it was a scam ... i wish it wasnt lol but so obvious that it is.

I too just received this automated message, said my tax return was $2000, I know for fact its a scam because I've already done my taxes and I always OWE.

i got a call from this number and if any gets a call it is a scam i called the irs and they were unable to locate the number and said dont give them any information because they said if they owe you money they are not going to call you they are just going to issuse you a refund and sent it to you so be aware

I received this call about 4 times and they wont stop. I dont want this to effect my refund since I am currently waiting for that. Absolutley a scam!!

I just received the call.  I ignored it and listenend to the voice message.  It says they owe me $2,00.00.  It's a scam!!

So I just got this same call and when I called the number back it was a forign man that I could barely understand. He said that They noticed mistakes the past few years with my taxes and I was getting an additional refund in the amount of $2173. I said ok. Go ahead and mail me the check, then. He said that there were penalty fees I had to pay in the amounr of $200 before It could be released. I laughed at him and told him I'd find a different number to call the IRS because if I was truly getting a refund in that amount they would not make me pay $200 in fees. They would just take it from my refund. I only called the number back because I just filed my taxes yesterday so it seemed real until I heard what he had to say. Do not fall for this. I don;t understand how people even get away with this kind of scam. I don't understand.

They called me twice today! I have not filed yet so this is clearly a scam. When I called I asked how I knew this was real and this guy with the thickest indian accent I have ever heard says, "oh my gosh, I just gave you my id# and I can give you my address." Seriously?! Such a scam

NThis number said they was the irs and had information i have not give like social.But i remembered the voice it was the same guy who tried to get  me by trying to sell free trips to places i never been.it is a scam.

I just got a recorded message from them saying the IRS owes me 2,473.00. Since I am on Disability and don't receive enough to even file, how could they owe an additional refund?????

I just received this same call...scary!!

I received a call from this number stating that a tax refund in the amount of 2,400 was owed to me and would be credited to me once I call and verify my info.
It's a scam.........Beware!!!
