I've received a total of seven calls from these idiots since the beginning of January. The caller doesn't even speak the english language well enough to make me believe that he's in America. The fact that he tells me the the US Government has some grant money for me seems a bit odd. I retired from the Police Department in Washington DC nine years ago. If there was money in Washington for me, they would know how to get in touch with me or forward it to me. This clown is a pain in the A _ _.

I have been getting phone calls from this number for weeks now and it is a scam. No government official would talk so incoherently, work on a weekend and not have the where with all to know that any government money has to have a paper trail of some sort. I refused to give my account information and immediately they hung up. Don't get duped by the thought of free money.

Ah, the old poison area code "202" strikes again!People, fopr goodness sake! Stop and check your caller ID before you pick up a call. If you see a name or number you don't recognize -- or no number at all -- do not pick up the call!!!!! If you should pick up such a call, and a voice tells you to press a number, press nothing!!!! HANG UP!!!!!! These are spammers/scammers/phishers. Once you press a number, you are on their "sucker list".
Only you can be totally responsible for your own defense against these types of callers! Caller ID is your first line of defense! Use it. Think. Then answer if you will.

I received a call from this number today. Male heavily accented voice telling me that I was selected to receive 8,500 dollars that would not have to be paid back at any time. He said that this was a once in a life opportunity. He only needed my bank account information to transfer the money. I asked him to e-mail me the information or to just send a check to my home. He insisted that it could only be with done by transferring into my bank account. I told him that I don?t have a bank account so he just hung up. I think that this is a scam, if not, they can just me send the check.

Has anyone asked these people questions? I'm interested how deep it goes. Maybe it's more than what we think... The woman barely spoke English. She told me I had qualified for a grant, that's all I could understand. I think she wanted my bank info but I could hardly understand her. I asked them to mail me something and they hung up on me.

Can't anyone do anything about these calls. The government can trace calls from anywhere so why can't they stop calls like this. These people say they have government grants so they are also committing fraud.

We received a call from this number today. Heavily accented voice informing my husband that he was able to receive 8,500 usd that would not have to be paid back at any time. The caller avoided giving out any company name. Claims they only needed our bank account information to transfer the money. We informed him that he could just send a check instead but the gentleman insisted that it could only be with done by transferring into our bank account. Since we do not pass our bank info we simply hung up. This has to be a scam.

I got a call from this guy, foreign accent, I knew it was a scam from the start because no one calls you to give you money. So I went with it to see where it would go. When he started asking me for info I told him that if he was really with the government he would already know this information. I said he sounded like a scammer. He asked me if I thought the government would try to take money from means I said how do I know you're with the government? He told me to go to hell and hung up on me:)
Chris 2013-02-27 23:20:12 Unknown
Scam
Called supposedly from some US government agency, could barely speak English.
Could hear in the background it was a call center, I hung up.

Lady w/ a thick accent called several times over the course of three days. told me i had been selected by the us government for 8,400 that i wdnt have to pay back. i started asking multiple ?s, she got uneasy and stumbled over her somewhat answers. She hung up on me. i called that number back and all circuits were busy. I blocked the number because its NOTHING but a scam. my grandmother received a phone call similar to this one two years ago except she had to send them 10,000 dollars to get one million. they took advantage of my 85yr old grandmother. she reported it to the fbi, dad thing is once the money is out if the us it is impossible to track down. the agent told my gmother scams like this happen everydsy. and its very sad because her life savings are gone. Taking advantage of elderly ppl is so wrong. And this instance hits home. please be aware to not ever give any information to anyone over the phone. its a sick, sad world we live in. preying on our weak and innocent. God bless us all..

I just asked them to me off their calling list and the guy "with a heavy accent" told me: "F%(&%$ you.. A)*^%E" and then hung up on me!
andre 2013-02-27 00:20:10 Unknown
Absolutely a scam. They kept saying they wanted to give me grant money from the government and the woman on the phone got angry when I asked for information through the mail. I asked her what my address was for mail information and I got "disconnected". Thickest Korean accent I have ever heard to be calling from the American government...

For the past 2 weeks these people have been calling almost every 3 hours. I've talked to my phone company and blocked their number but now they're just calling from the DC area. These people are rediculous. Real companies don't call at 9 pm!
ChuckG 2013-02-26 17:00:16 Unknown
Same situation, got a call offering the money. I told them the US government needs it more then I do and they need to put it back into the system if they're really giving out money. lol. She said thank you and hung up. If anyone believes the US government is just handing out $8400 for no reason, they're stupid.
Chris 2013-02-25 23:47:44 Unknown
It is a scam. They say they are with the US government trying to give out grants but won't send you anything in the mail. They just want your banking info
You cant fool me 2013-02-25 23:35:13 Unknown
The same number and everything. Do not believe in them, they are scam. they say I am calling you from US Government Grant Department, there is no such Dept, these people are from overseas that is for sure. Just humiliate them, then they get pissed. He was stupid enough towards the end of the call that he said he got the number from craigslist.
Ironically, a day or two ago, I send an email for a car add on Craigslist cause there were no phone numbers. I believe they put fishy advertisements on Craigslist to get peoples numbers.
You can not trust anything nowadays,
Thanks.
