Called today saying I have just been selected to recieve $7000 in federal grant money. SCAM SCAM SCAM. If its the federal government they should have called and confirmed they would be sending me a gift card instead asking for my personal bank account information. smh
I need to know where I can call and report this number.
anon 2012-07-27 19:32:38 Unknown
THIS IS A SCAM!! Do not give any information out and do not call any numbers. Block their number if you can. Simply asking them if it's a scam isn't enough. Since when are thieves honest? And since when does the government just randomly give out free money? Please have more common sense people. If you did give out any information, contact your bank immediately and report it to them.

So me and my girlfriend were relaxing watching tv and I received a call from this number saying that I was selected to receive a grant for $7000 that I did not have to pay back. They asked me for my routing and account number. Before they were able to deposit the money, they first wanted me to depost a processing fee of $220. They asked me to go to a western union to wire the money and they told me to send it a man name Jacob Joseph from India. The fact that they told me to send the money to a person and not an actual company name or foundation was what caught me off guard. I kept asking them if this was a scam and why did I have to send it to a person and not a company and they started to get frustrated and responding very rudely. This is when I realized that this was very unprofessional and figured that this was a complete scam. Please no one fall for hackers!

I have recived many calls from this number. They said I had been awarded 7000 from the US Goverment because I pay my taxs on time and I have not criminal record. They have SSN, My Name and Address. They asked me to call 202-684-6433 and I would be talking to Gloria Nelson. and they also gave me case #. Gloria said I would see money in my account in 2 days, but needed to pay a processing fee that would go to the Red Cross but could not be subtracted from the amount they would be giving me. I said "Sorry but I dont have money to pay any fees" Gloria Nelson said. "Call back when you do" and Hung up.
Domo 2012-07-10 18:36:27 Unknown

FEDERAL TRADE COMMISSION WEBSITE
http://www.ftc.gov/bcp/edu/pubs/consumer/alerts/alt134.shtm
?Free Government Grants?: Don?t Take Them For Grant-ed
?Because you pay your income taxes on time, you have been awarded a free $12,500 government grant! To get your grant, simply give us your checking account information, and we will direct-deposit the grant into your bank account!?
Sometimes, it?s an ad that claims you will qualify to receive a ?free grant? to pay for education costs, home repairs, home business expenses, or unpaid bills. Other times, it?s a phone call supposedly from a ?government? agency or some other organization with an official sounding name. In either case, the claim is the same: your application for a grant is guaranteed to be accepted, and you?ll never have to pay the money back.
Don?t give out your bank account information to anyone you don?t know.
Scammers pressure people to divulge their bank account information so that they can steal the money in the account. Always keep your bank account information confidential. Don?t share it unless you are familiar with the company and know why the information is necessary.
Don?t pay any money for a ?free? government grant.
If you have to pay money to claim a ?free? government grant, it isn?t really free. A real government agency won?t ask you to pay a processing fee for a grant that you have already been awarded ? or to pay for a list of grant-making institutions. The names of agencies and foundations that award grants are available for free at any public library or on the Internet. The only official access point for all federal grant-making agencies is www.grants.gov.
Look-alikes aren?t the real thing.
Just because the caller says he?s from the ?Federal Grants Administration? doesn?t mean that he is. There is no such government agency. Take a moment to check the blue pages in your telephone directory to bear out your hunch ? or not.
Phone numbers can deceive.
Some con artists use Internet technology to disguise their area code in caller ID systems. Although it may look like they?re calling from Washington, DC, they could be calling from anywhere in the world.

3/20/12 12:48 PM Got another call today about being awarded $ 7,000 in US Government Grant money. This time said his name was Michael. I asked if his last name was Ford, he said, no Lee. Gave me 202-657-6272 to call and ask for Mrs Daniel, give code JN132. Asked how old I was, I stated if from Gov then he would have that info. He said was not given that information. I told him I was 33. ;)
CONCERN: Again he referenced some events that recently happened in my life, and had my name, phone and complete address!
Where are they getting this information?
BuckeyeLady 2012-03-19 22:04:29 Unknown
03/19/2012- 5:40PM Just received call from a foreign speaking male, advising me I had been awarded a $ 7,000 grant from the Government. I asked what Gov and he replied "your gov!" He gave the speil about not doing anything illegal with it. Asked what I would do with the $. I asked for a phone # to call and validate the information and he first wanted to know how I wanted to receive the money. When I asked for a check he gave me my name and address!!!!! Then said could they not send a check, but could put in an account for me! Started asking for routing numbers! I replied if they had that much information on me, then they would have my account routing info, he said no they didn't. So I asked for a Visa/MC Gift/Debit Card, "no we can't do that." I asked for the vaidation phone # again, and he got impatient with me, "I'll give you all the information you need, later!" I replied, "no contact number, no info! He gave me 202-684-6433 and said a Michael Ford would be my account advisor! Looked number up on google and found this site.
MAJOR CONCERN: He had information about recent events in my life, so somehow they are using "public information!" Heads UP!

They called my sons girlfriineds mother saying he qualiified for a $7000 US grant. Said she needed to send $210, she fell for it, and sent the money. Then when she called to conifrm if the money was being transfered into her account, they said it was for a charity and asked for another $358, she scaped it up and sent that also. They picked up both transferes from Western Union, one in 5 minutes, the other 8 minutes. Now my son is asking if I can help them with this. I already know the money is long gone. I wish there was a way to track these guys down!!!! And suggestons??

David had an accent he said I need to call Gary Wilson at 2026846433 to claim the Grant money. When I called Gary he said I would have to send them 210 dollars as a processing fee through western union

I RECEIVED A BOGAS CALL FROM A MAN NAME JASON MORRE WHOM HAD AN ACCENT FROM INDIA. HE CLAIMED TO BE CALLING FROM THE US TREASURY DEPT AND CLAIMED HE HAD A $7000.00 GRANT TO GIVE ME. HOWEVER, HE DID ASK FOR MY BANK CARD BUT I DID NOT GIVE IT TO HIM AND THERE IS NO OTHER WAY TO RECEIVE THIS MONEY. SO I SAID NO THANK YOU.............OR PROVIDE AN ACCOUNT NUMBER OR PREPAID CARD. OH WELL I DECLINED SO FORGET THE MONEY.
Leya 2011-11-21 22:50:27 Unknown
Called with out of date information on where I lived figured by that background noise and their lack of website and full names that it was a scam... Unfortunate though since, $7000 would have been a nice gift... I'm also not a citizen sooo it didn't make that much sense for the US government to give me money!
charles 2011-11-18 16:15:53 Unknown
I received a call from a woman and she had a foriegn accent and she advised me the US government Claims Dept has approved me for a $7000 grant that I will never have to pay back but dont use the money illegally (red flag). If I would like the money placed on my credit/debit card I would need to give her my credit card number and then I need to call Gary Wilson at 202-684-6433. I did not give her my card info but I asked her was this a scam and if they could be checked out on the internet she hungup (red flag). I tried calling Gary Wilson and he continues to pickup with nothing to say and he hangs up quickly. Get a real job please!!
Cynthia 2011-11-15 18:14:19 Unknown
First, a lady calls and confirms all you information & gives you a "confirmation number" and tell you to call Gary Wilson to confirm your funds being transferred. Gary Wilson has a heavy indian accent but this number being FROM Washington, DC...they still had me UNTIL they started requesting money! $210.00 as a processing fee. I asked, well...why can't you take the $210 out of my 7000 I'm going to be getting. "Gary" got rather upset and said call when you get to western union!! As hard as times are, I wish I would send someone 210.00 for the heck of it!! I may have missed out on 7000 (I doubt) but I'll take my chances this time!! These people are sick scammers!! BEWARE
