Anyone I know is programmed into my phone.  If its not programmed in, I won't answer it.

Usually, they don't leave a voicemail & the ones that do are very vague about a file, updates, etc.  They never say whom they work for.  I just delete them & don't worry.

Yes, I have VERY OLD debt & the statute of limitations has run out for any of them to sue me (garnish my wages), so I don't care anymore.  Besides, I figure most of these are scammers anyway.

My fiance doesn't owe anyone anything; he pays cash for everything & he still gets calls too.  But then again, I rarely get real phone calls; mostly text & my phone is on vibrate, so its not really an inconvenience.  I just delete them...  ;)

A call came from this number, 202-688-0553.  I did not answer the call and a message was left on the voice mail.  They want me to call them at 757-296-0128 so that they can verify my address and they will send me some legal document.

I have people calling me, for a person with the same name, who used to live in my town, now they google the guy's name and my info comes up, and once you square it with one of these scum bags, they sell it to another, and it just goes on and on.  I not only get phone calls for this guy, I also receive his bills in the mail, to include his child support invoices, collection agencies, and even correspondence from the IRS.  However, its the phone calls that bother me the most, they call at all hours of the day and night.

I have found the answer to all these annoying calls, it's called the Call Blocker, and it works great. I was looking for the solution to these phone calls, for years, and this is the best solution I have found yet. I bought mine on ebay, and it works like a champ.

Here is a link with the description for the Call Blocker.

No, I don't sell them, or have any affiliation with them; I just know this thing works.

I've been getting a call from this number for about a month, every day!  They just started leaving a message regarding "the file", and on "my desk", and the beginning of the message is always really warbled.  The 4 messages I have received are each a different person!  And they EACH say my file has been put on their desk!  I tried to call back this morning, twice, and it was just a blank tone.

I got a call on Feb 27, 2013 at 8:30am from a number that showed on my phone as coming from DC, USA. The actual number that called me was 202-688-0553. On the voicemail, a man who said his name was Daniel Thompson said his office has attempted to reach me in regards to "a file" and wants to speak with me before he has to give his "recomendation" because the "matter involves me directly." Mr. Thompson made no mention of what business he represented or hours I should call back, just that it was important that I call and left this number: 757-206-0091 to call back.

So, I have dealt with this before. This is a scam designed to scare individuals into giving out personal information such as credit card, social security and bank numbers. These scammers will never identify what business they are calling for collection or if they do, it is only initials like FAS, SAF, ASF, ect., or at least very difficult to understand them. Most are not able to tell you any information about the "file" they speak of and some tend to get down right verbally abusive when you challenge their authority by asking to speak to supervisors and have been known to respond with swearing and threats.

Far as I can tell, these scammers get your information from old one time loan accounts from institutions such as pay-day cash advances, check~n~go, ect. You don't even have to have taken out a loan from one of these institutions! Your information could have been listed as 'other contacts.' They get this contact information through legit purchasing of it from these institutions and call you trying to convince you that your loan or a loved one's loans is still outstanding and if you do not pay it soon, legal action will be brought against you. I'm just guessing, but considering the time of year and the fact that the number that calls shows up as DC, USA, I'm betting they are hoping people's concerns or fears about IRS or tax auditing will cause many people to call back.

Here's the deal, If an 'unknown' caller i.d. pops up on your phone or a number you don't recognize, just don't answer it and check the voicemail. If the number registures as only a state BE SUSPICIOUS. Next listen to the voicemail, if they person neglects to mention the institution or business they represent, then it is a fraud or at very least unlawful. They will tend to use language like, "we have a file" and if you don't get in contact with us than it will may lead to "legal action." Voicemail messages tend to last about 15-36 seconds. I know because I have about 18 saved on my phone!

If your unlucky enough to actually speak to one of these scammers, DON'T GIVE OUT ANY PERSONAL INFORMATION. No company will ask for your FULL SOCIAL SECURITY NUMBER because it puts that company at legal risk for identity theft. As such, they should only ASK FOR YOUR LAST 4 DIGITS. If they demand the full number, it is definately a scam. One of the simplest ways to determine if this is a legit collections call is to ask the caller to provide you with the company name and address for verification. WARNING: This tends to upset these scammers and they are known to get down right vulger and nasty with callers; lots of swearing and threats to show up at your house. Don't worry, only a legal representative such as a lawyer, police officer, judge, ect. can show up to your house to serve your papers. So, these threats are for shock value. Don't be intimitaded! Next, tell them to send you a bill to the address on their file. DON'T GIVE OUT YOUR CURRENT ADDRESS. Finally, if you feel in anyway intimidated or threatend by the caller, HANG UP. It may be rude, but there isn't a law against it and it is better not to subject yourself to the stress of that abuse.

If you are concerned that you actually may owe money, then you should go to a local and trusted financial institution such as a bank, inform them about these calls and ask if they could run a credit check on you for outstanding loans. Many institutions will provide this credit score and report free of charge to comply with the fair credit act laws. At the very least, you may get some better advice about how to procede with this situation from the bank managers.

If you look around on this website, you'll find that these scammers don't give up too easily. Many will call you several times a day, once everyday or repeatedly one call after another. Most people recomend you just not answer your phone and delete the messages. I personally save the messages and document on this website. I get about one call a month from these scammers. Each call is usually from a different location and each scam is slightly different, but the key identifiers are there. If you want to take down these scammers with legal action, you can report the harrasing phone calls to your local police department. I have also filed an online report with the FBI's fraud and identity proctection unit. If you have the time, you can report the scams to your local newspaper or news station and see if a reporter will run an informative story for their readers/viewers. Hell, if your really wanted to branch out, you can contact your state house and senate representatives to inform them about the scams. Here is a link to my first post on this website that may help you all out:

I know some of the readers get suspicious when seemingly random IRL is posted and may not want to click on it. As such, if you search this phone number in the phone number search bar and it will take you to the page: 877-997-4825. Again, if you have any questions or concerns talk with a trusted bank or loan provider and your local authorities.

This number harasses me every day!!!! The other number they harass from is 202-688-0552. They continually call, wanting money orders, check, credit cards, or hey, go get a pre-paid card and call us back. This is absolutely inexcusable and fraudulent. I went as far as to call the number back, a black gentleman answered saying I owe some money for what, he couldn't tell me. He wanted nothing but money in any form I would provide it. I previously had my number changed and here they are again. I have no clue how to stop this ridiculous crap. I will spend all day if needed to figure out who to report this to. Obviously this doesn't help, they are still out there harassing people every day, sometimes several times a day. I won't stop til this is resolved. I told the guy not to call me again or I would report them. Well, that did no good, obviously this is automated calling and there has to be an agency to report this to.

Guy says his name but I'm Unable to make it out. Says he is looking for my children's father and that this was the number they have listed for his wife (I'm not his wife) when I told him that he got angry and said well this is the number listed. I asked him his name again and what company he is calling from and he says CKS and he has some personal (he inserted a big word here but I can't remember what it was) documents that his office was asked to review and give a recommendation on but he can't discuss them unless I'm his wife. So he asks me again, and before I could even say anything his attitude gets worse and he says well you have a good day and good bye and hangs up. I tried to call back but it just keeps in ringing and ringing and noone will answer the phone

I do not owe anyone anything nor does my husband. They have called almost every week for over a month now and use a different phone number when I block the call. They are a nuisnace. They say the same thing
"my name is Amber Night , (funny but the voice is different each time) I'm trying to get in touch with you about some prelimanry paper work that my office did received last week. and blah blah blah..."

I feel bad for unsuspecting people that would fall for these types of calls and wish they would get caught and stopped.
