I just received this morning a call from woman with a thick accent, telling me that i won $ 10,000  in Goverment Grants, and she like to have my bank account or my credit card #, I start asking her questions and she finally hang up on me.
# that she calls was (202) 697-7222.

Got a call from this number on my mothers phone. This was the second time they have called. I answered the phone and there was a silence. Some guy asked for my mother, obviously he was from some other country.... Not sure which one, maybe India or something like that... He asked my name, I told him, Mary... Then asked me how long I have had this number. I said what's ur name.. Sounded like he said Romeo... Then I said what do u want.. He said have u heard of Romeo and Juliet? I said are you selling something, cause whatever it is we don't want it. He asked me again if I had heard of Romeo and Juliet... I said whatever you are looking for, your not gonna find it here, don't call again and I hung up. I immediately blocked the number on my moms phone.. Whatever this is its a scam, don't give out any information!!!

I have received several calls and they are all identified by State abbreviation and USA.  Seem to be from a call center and very poor English.  I told them this was too good to be true and I never heard of such a thing.  They put someone else on the phone with better English.  So sad they actually hire people to do this.  I am hoping the US Government gets involved to stop this scam.

I have received calls stating that I was chosen for a US Federal Grant as well. They want you checking, VISA, or MASTERCARD info to send this grant too.  I am sure they just want the info on your accounts.   All phone numbers associated with this scam.  561-449-8764 FL, USA, 201-225-4100 NJ, USA, 202-697-7222 DC, USA, 615-692-8793 TN, USA, and 585-682-2127 NY, USA.  I would hope the US Federal Government would want to get these numbers shut down.  

This is no telemarketer.  It IS a scammer attempting to get your personal info to clean out your bank account and max out your credit cards.  BEWARE!

That's what happened to me. I answered the phone and they hung up. I called back and the call was rejected. But they keep calling. Caller ID says Washington DC.

They told me the same thing... When I asked him what branch of the government he yelled f*** then disconnected the call.

This number has called me FOUR TIMES today. There is a huge amount of noise in the background, and the callers speak very poor English, so I can't understand what they are saying. I have repeatedly asked them not to call but they keep calling anyway.

They told me I had been chosen for a government grant of $10,200 towards my education for several reasons and said they needed my bank account number to transfer the money.  I did apply for loans earlier so they had me fooled for a while. They had my address, name, and number so it sounded legit, They call me 10 times a day at least. It's really annoying!! I'm wondering if they got my information from some online surveys that I filled out.....anyone else take those?  I'm wondering if they are connected.

I used to work for a telesurvey company. They feed a list of numbers into a computer and then the program dials each number hoping to get a hit. Many times we were handed lists with names or the name came up on our computer.

Call all day long. Finally answered. Middle eastern accent. Said I qualify for a lifetime grant I never have to pay taxes or qualify for.

Anyway, I laughed and said "how does it work?".

He said something like "are you sitting, you are a f****ng animal" and hung up.

I have been receiving calls from this number, a few each day for months now. When I answer they hang up, and when I try to call them back, they refuse the call. How can I get them to stop calling?

I received the same phone call today. And when I said: "this is a scam".  He called me a f****ng idiot and hung up.  But I actually think I am the smart one!

These people keep calling me talking about college, hanging up the phone I need this to stop it's been a week straight.

FYI - for anyone reading this thread - you cannot receive a grant if you didn't apply for it.  Nor do you ever have to pay for the grant application process or to receive it.

I was called about a  grant from the "US Federal Bank of New York" and that I was getting a grant. They wanted my bank or credit card information. I asked them to mail me some information regarding the grant and they disconnected.

How do these slugs know our names? Not only did this hemorrhoid interrupt my work day but he met
the trifecta of chewing with a heavy accent and using an extremely faint connection.

I agree there should be an universal account number that is flagged by banks as a fraudulent attempt to
secure money similar to the blue ink dye used by banks during hold ups. *This calls feel like a telephone hold up!

This is for ALL the People, who are on the "DO NOT CALL" Registry...Unfortunately these are Illegal Scammers, who do NOT follow the "DO NOT CALL" Rules!  Any Legitimate Telemarketer will NOT Call your Phone Number/Numbers if you have them listed with the "DO NOT CALL" Registry!  The Best thing to do, when you get these types of Call, is to Block the Number, if you can, and then file a Report with the "FTC"!

@JASON...A lot of the newer Smartphones already have a "Blocking Mode" on them...well, at least my Samsung Galaxy Light does!  All I have to do, is pull down the Menu (where all your things are, like "Wi-Fi" "GPS" "Sound" "Bluetooth", and things like that) I just click on "Blocking Mode", to turn it on.  Once it's turned on, any Phone number, that's NOT in my "Allowed Contracts List" automatically goes straight to my "Voice Mail" and my Cellphone never rings!  :o}

I had received several calls last week and today from the following phone number. (202) 697 7222? Telling that I have been selected for a government grant. It's not a loan, is free money. I have tried to call them back and the call is rejected all the time All last week they have been calling me and sometimes when I answer, the call drops. The first time they call they ask for my personal information. At that point I ended the call.
