Had a similar experience.   Automatic dialer reached me two weeks ago, while I was OUS.  Called back and got the urgent message from an individual with a Russian accent named "Brian O'Connor," alerting me regarding charges for willful neglect, etc, and saying that if I wanted to avoid court i needed to send an electronic voucher in the amount within 30 minutes  When I asked to instructions I was told to go to the nearest CVS, get a voucher and call them from the parking lot.

Need to contact the IRS about this scam.

Don't be scared. My wife received the same call, and she is not the primary tax payer in my household. It's me - meaning any problem with my ITR, the IRS will have to call my attention first. See how stupid these scammers are?

First and foremost, the IRS never calls people.  Ever.  They always initiate contact by postal mail.

These guys are high volume scammers.

My suggestion is to threaten them with death.  See how they react.  It's comical.

THIS IS NOT REAL! This is happening to many of us by poor and disgusting scammers in other countries who are looking for someone foolish to trick. It is obviously all about money.  Call your local police station or sheriff's office to file a complaint or notify them of this issue. I have received two of these calls already and I will be reporting 202-754-8079 and 202-800-8550.  THey change their number to continue to trick people.

Don't be a sucker; the IRS doesn't work like that.  SCAM, just hang up on them, don't call back.  Tell them to call your lawyer and give a number you pick out of the phone book.  Should shut them up.  And, finally, the IRS doesn't make you stay on the phone, nor does any legitimate business, even if you did owe them.

I just recd. call & caller ID shows "STATEN IS". it asked me to call 202 754 8079 regarding IRS fraud & case going to court. so I called the number. the person named Shawn told he is from IRS Audit Dept. in Washington DC. He said I need to pay $3981, within 45 minutes, i have to take decision right away, can not disconnect the phone till i go to bank withdraw money, then go to nearby CVS or  rite aid or radio shack & pay them through electronic voucher, but till I finish this payment I can not disconnect the phone. otherwise the matter will go to court.,within few few minutes all your assets will be frozen & you will be in custody for 6 months. He also gave me the case file number. I am really scared. Again I tried the same number 202 754 8079 but other person picked up the phone & he said it is IRS audit department number. Is this real then? or scam? if it is scam how are they answering the call they say it is IRS audit dept.
Can somebody help with this.

WASHINGTON ? The Internal Revenue Service today warned consumers about a sophisticated phone scam targeting taxpayers, including recent immigrants, throughout the country.

Victims are told they owe money to the IRS and it must be paid promptly through a pre-loaded debit card or wire transfer. If the victim refuses to cooperate, they are then threatened with arrest, deportation or suspension of a business or driver?s license. In many cases, the caller becomes hostile and insulting.

?This scam has hit taxpayers in nearly every state in the country.  We want to educate taxpayers so they can help protect themselves.  Rest assured, we do not and will not ask for credit card numbers over the phone, nor request a pre-paid debit card or wire transfer,? says IRS Acting Commissioner Danny Werfel. ?If someone unexpectedly calls claiming to be from the IRS and threatens police arrest, deportation or license revocation if you don?t pay immediately, that is a sign that it really isn?t the IRS calling.? Werfel noted that the first IRS contact with taxpayers on a tax issue is likely to occur via mail
Other characteristics of this scam include:
Scammers use fake names and IRS badge numbers. They generally use common names and surnames to identify themselves.
Scammers may be able to recite the last four digits of a victim?s Social Security Number.
Scammers spoof the IRS toll-free number on caller ID to make it appear that it?s the IRS calling.
Scammers sometimes send bogus IRS emails to some victims to support their bogus calls.
Victims hear background noise of other calls being conducted to mimic a call site.
After threatening victims with jail time or driver?s license revocation, scammers hang up and others soon call back pretending to be from the local police or DMV, and the caller ID supports their claim.
If you get a phone call from someone claiming to be from the IRS, here?s what you should do:
If you know you owe taxes or you think you might owe taxes, call the IRS at 1.800.829.1040. The IRS employees at that line can help you with a payment issue ? if there really is such an issue.
If you know you don?t owe taxes or have no reason to think that you owe any taxes (for example, you?ve never received a bill or the caller made some bogus threats as described above), then call and report the incident to the Treasury Inspector General for Tax Administration at 1.800.366.4484.
If you?ve been targeted by this scam, you should also contact the Federal Trade Commission and use their ?FTC Complaint Assistant? at FTC.gov.  Please add "IRS Telephone Scam" to the comments of your complaint.
Taxpayers should be aware that there are other unrelated scams (such as a lottery sweepstakes) and solicitations (such as debt relief) that fraudulently claim to be from the IRS.
The IRS encourages taxpayers to be vigilant against phone and email scams that use the IRS as a lure. The IRS does not initiate contact with taxpayers by email to request personal or financial information.  This includes any type of electronic communication, such as text messages and social media channels. The IRS also does not ask for PINs, passwords or similar confidential access information for credit card, bank or other financial accounts. Recipients should not open any attachments or click on any links contained in the message. Instead, forward the e-mail to phishing@irs.gov.

More information on how to report phishing scams involving the IRS is available on the genuine IRS website, IRS.gov.

I receive same call as stated above in zip code area 06109. I am update on all my IRS payment and filing, so I disregard it. However, the call is threatening and the Fed Gov't (IRS) should investigate and tract this down and put a stop to it.
I am fed-up that our Gov't is not doing anything about it.

We received a call that showed the caller ID as "STATEN IS". It was a machine voice and said that it is calling from IRS. It said that an audit was reported and that we should press "1" or call back before case goes to court or an arrest warrant is issued and it said that we should call back on 202-754-8079. First we were surprised as we pay all our taxes and are current on all our filings. When we called back the number 202-754-8079, no-one replied or identified on the other side and waited for us to speak first. This does not appear to be an official number.

An anonymous call that prompts to call back on 202-754-8079 and identifies as IRS, a government body, seems pretty serious. If anyone knows more about this type of call please do report.
