Another f*king call spammer. Mtatfdi

August 6, 2013: My phone was bombed with calls from area code 202. Caller ID showed Mag Strat for this number. Thanks for the info, A Voter. (The cancel button on my land line phone gets a lot of use these days if I'm home and see an area code 202 call coming in. ZAP!)

"MAG STRAT" is Magellan Strategies ( http://magellanstrategies.com ), a political polling firm for Republican candidates.

Called about a survey and, as I told them I didn't want to be contacted, they continued to talk over me so I hung up.  The caller id showed MAG STRAT 202-800-5504

Received a call from 1-202-800-5504, caller ID showed it was from MAG START, Wsdhington, D.C. ..... This is a survey company ..... I am, and have been since it started, on the DO NOT CALL list but since reglions and polticians are excempt I have to put up with there s*** .....

Caller ID also came up as Mag Strat - They left no message

I'm just guessing, but it could stand for "Magnificent Stragedy", as in a method to win the election.

This was a political survey.  From the questions they were asking, I am guessing it was from the Republican party.  They kept asking me questions about which way the country was going and lots of questions about how the Republicans in my state are doing.  At the end they asked if I wanted to be put on their do not call list. Not a real person, just a robocall with a phone tree.

Just, 10/02/2012 6:47PM (CDT), received a cal from 202-800-5504 ..... Caller ID said it was from Mag Strat in Washington, D.C. ..... I DO NOT KNOW ANY MAG STRAT IN WASHINGTON, D.C. so I did not answer the call .....

HOW TO THROTTLE BOGUS CALLS (updated 03/21/2012)

Ok, here's a solution if your phone has a contacts list--it works quite well on my iPhone, which allows unlimited phone numbers for any contact.

Step 1, create a contact named something like these names
            IGNORE JUNK CALL
            SCAMMING SCUMBAGS
            FRAUDSTERS LIST
                         ..... 
            
Step 2, select a SILENT ring type for this contact.  Or, select a distinctly unusual ring tone like
             CRICKETS or                              
             MOTORCYCLE  or
             RIFLE...

This lets you know if a repeat caller is on the line, but I prefer the silence myself.  My iPhone lights up showing the caller ID, even though I have a silent ring.

Step 3. Enable CALLER ID to be displayed for incoming calls that are made to your phone. It's a pity these stealth calls UNKNOWN, or OUT OF AREA, or their ilk, can't be blocked by any phone I know about. My iPhone won't let me put these names where the phone number field is entered.

So, what you do is to put the phone numbers of all bogus and scam callers that contact you, or try to call you, in this special contact. 

Also, unless you recognize a toll free number owner, let all calls of this type go unanswered, and if no 
voicemail is left, add the Caller ID (their  phone  number) into the                    IGNORE JUNK CALL contact.

Also add any other bogus calls
you get or know about, well they go in this contact too.

This may mean also all callers that don't leave a voice mail, or are soliciting you for services or products who you don't have a business relation with. And slime bags you don't want to talk to, like that jerk at the bar, or your ex.

For new toll free and also out of area calls: run these numbers
through Google search to see if they have been reported as junk or have been identified by others as scams.

Don't call an unsolicited  toll-free number back, it captures your own phone number, and you will get on other scam lists to call you.

Toll free numbers all have area codes from this list: codes 800, 888, 877, 866,  and codes reserved for future expansion include 844, 833, 822, 880 through 887, and 889. 

FURTHER: Don't take the default voice mail prompt that came with your phone, because it usually
speaks your phone number and indicates you aren't around to pick up the call and maybe even speaks your name as well.

Record a new one
like "Sorry I missed you, your message will be appreciated".
Friends will know your voice. Scammers, not so often.

My list is long now, my silent ring saves me from tons of spam and scam, and yes, the do not call list is worthless, and toothless as well.

Please feel free to copy this post anywhere, and to any forum. 

Consider writing a letter or email to your phone supplier, or your congressman to fix this awful state of affairs, and to put some teeth into the DO NOT  CALL law. Ask them to shut down the services that allow fake telephone numbers to be used as well.

Stop calling my phone! I don't know for sure where this company got my number, some sold phone list, don't call me again!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!! I sure as hell won't ever answer the calls or buy anything from you!!

It was a political call from New Jersey.  I answered the first couple of questions and then hung up.
It was a robo-call and they wanted to know if I intended to vote in November, whether I was going to vote Democrat or  Republican and whether or not I knew the candidates. That's when I hung up.

Yet another call from someone I don't know about something I have no interest in!  The caller ID says Mag Strat. Mag didn't leave a message.

MAG STRAT: "MAG" seems to refer to a type of video game: Massive Action Game, an online action game featuring 256 player battles. www.gamespot.com/mag goes into detail about the MAG. "STRAT" is clearly meant to mean "strategy", so the whole bogus name means "Massive Action Game strategy". Sheesh.

Remove my number.. Calling all hours of evening !

This phone number called me at midnight one night.  Scared me half to death thinking someone in my family had an emergency. That would be the only people calling me at that hour.

I called the number back and got a recording stating it was a political call.  I can't wait until all these elections are over with!!!  Almost makes me mad enough not to bother voting!!!!

Was an automated political poll .... nuisance call.

It seems to be a political call that solicits people on local and federal government updates.  According to the caller, they are exempted from the National Do Not Call List so you can't do much about it.
BUT, if you get called, just call the same number back to have your number removed after the pre-recorded message is played.  You will have an option to enter your 10-digit phone number, followed by 1 to confirm.  It is fully automated and trouble-free.
