I have received several telephone calls. At least one or two day. One told me there was a discrepancy in my 2012 tax return and there was a warrant out for my arrest. That I should appear at the district court with a criminal lawyer. (Tel. No. 202-239-2398)
Another call told me that they were calling from Medicare and started asking me about the surgeries I have had. It seems they have access to my Medicare records, because they knew about my surgeries. (Tel No. 516-366-5522)
Another call was from Seattle, Washington. It was a recorded message and again started to tell me about investigations going on against me. I just put the phone down.(tel No. 206-971-6648)
All the calls were made by people with Indian accents.

@ JAK,
Turn there lying butts in to the Federal Trade Commission. State Attorney's Office.
They have broken so many US laws, if it's an overseas # they still want to know about them.
Keep a journal of times they call, name of Company & who you spoke to, keep all recorded messages threatening you
Every call they make threatening you is a fine they will have to pay for them @ over a grand a piece.
They will be fined on all of them if & when they are caught.
Every one should not call back these # if you don't owe it.
They are phishing for info.
There are so many scams for cloning your phone & trying to get info out of people do to identity fraud.

I don't know what nationality they are. We are Indian, and we got a call. The man on the phone had a heavy accent, but not Indian. Possibly Russian or East European. But when I continued to question him, he got very angry and called me a moth******er.

Got the same call, but he said his name was Brian Anderson, we ended up arguing, and me telling him I didn't believe him, he ended the call by calling me a moth******er!

This guy called yesterday, said he was from the State bureau of crime, and needed to speak to my husband. He said he was an officer/agent, name was Brian Anderson. I continued to drill him, because the words he was using (and his heavy accent) didn't seem legit. I even asked for his Badge #, which he said was MR91382. He became very agitated when I told him I didn't believe him and that I had a friend in the FBI and thought this was a scam. He then yelled at me and said, "f*** you, you moth******er"! Then hung up on me. I don't think an officer/agent would have responded that's way! LOL

This is a criminal extortion scam operating out of India. They are making the calls utilizing VOIP and the names of legitimate firms to make it appear the calls are originating from within the US. There is NO "company" or "debt" and you will NOT be arrested. They are harvesting and/or buying consumers' personal identifying information and you need to do whatever you can to protect yourself. This includes: Notifying the FTC: https://www.ftccomplaintassistant.gov/, placing fraud alerts with all three credit bureaus, notifying your bank and employer and letting these criminals know you are aware they are attempting to extort money for a non-existent debt and have alerted the authorities.
ABC News released an investigative report on this scam a year ago:

My office staff got a phone call from "Officer Lisa Hunter , Federal Crime Investigation Unit". When I returned the phone call, I was told that I was involved in three federal tax evasion cases and unless I paid $ 4600 via credit card or bank routing number, they would have to Initiate the investigation.
I called FBI field office in my local jursdiction to report the incident, who subsequently directed me to the following link:

The following message was left for me, I am confident I don't have tax issues, but not sure if I should call to see if there was an identity theft going on:
"Hey this message is for _ this is officer Scott Anderson and I'm calling you from Federal crime enforcement division. The reason off my call is to give you a verbal notification in regards to a federal complaint against your name and your identity. Right now there are three serious legal allegations being placed on your name by the national Bureau of crime investigation Department. So before anything goes wrong and before we take any serious steps against you. I want you to give me a call back on my number which is 2028009953. I repeat 2028009953. If you feel to call me back you alone responsible for the further legal actions will be taken against you. Thank you very much you have a great day."

I am from India. Several of my Indian have been getting the same message. I know one thing for sure, this is not Indian accent! Just ignore it. You usually get numerous written notices before some body calls you from IRS.

I received a call first from 347 342 1775 from a man (identified himself as Justin) and said that he is a officer from Federal Crimes Investigation and that an arrest warrant has been issued for me since I have tax fraud allegations. He has put an hold on the arrest warrant since I have no criminal background and clean credit history. I must take care of the situation immediately or have a lawyer ready. I asked him to send all what he was saying in writing and hung up on him. He kept calling and left more than one message in my voice mail box. This number appears to be from Brooklyn or Queens area in NY.
On November 29, 2013 at 4 PM, a lady called and left a long message in my voice mail saying she is from the Federal Crimes Investigation and that there are 3 allegations in my name. I must contact their local office or call her back at 202 800 9953. I was very worried and looked for this number on Google and I found this site.
Thank you very much for reporting to this site. You saved me from a scam.
