Telemarketer
KM & Chris: There are many who read these posts when receiving such calls. If the data is already stated being
redundant makes no sense. I do leave msgs when I get suspicious calls and let peeps know. Yes many more should
be checking this sight. These calls using the telephone go to "conditioned response people" who just can't leave the phone alone. IF someone really knows you and wishes to speak with you the caller will leave a VM. Otherwise /ig the calls that don't validate their call to your phone. Also these calls are placed by robocall devices to a bank of numbers at one entry and there is no heed to DNC or other registries. Calls come in on my business/home phone all the time so I know I have to be vigilant about watching incoming calls.

Just got a call from this number.  ID just said "Washington, DC"  -- however -- my phone only rang once and the call was blocked!  Yea!  I signed up for Nomorobo.com -- that brand new service that is free and it works!  The smart IT guy who designed  it won the federal government's contest to find a way to reduce robo calls. It is working well.  I recommend you all go on the website and sign up.  Then each time you get a call that is not blocked -- go on the website and report the number.  They listen to you.

Caller ID just says Washington, DC. We have signed up with Nomorobo, com, and they blocked this call after one ring! Yea!  If you haven't signed up with Nomorobo, do so now. It is free and it works! It blocks robocallers.  The IT guy who designed it won the federal government's contest to find a way to slow down robocalls.  Whenever you get a spam call that wasn't blocked, you can go on the website and ask them to add it to their blocked list.  Good luck!

Got  an unwanted call from this number today.  Annoying.  There ought to be a law against this type invasion of privacy.   I am registered on the do-not call list.  Largely it is disregarded by telemarketers.   When I answered the phone caller hung up.  No message.  If it were political type call, their ears would burn with my remarks.

Guess it doesn't matter if you are on the no call list or not!!!!

I've received 3 calls from that number in the past 2 days. Caller ID shows the number originating in Washington, DC. I haven't been around when they call, so whoever is calling hangs up when they get the answering machine. I figure it's a scam or phishing call so even if I'm home, I won't bother to answer the phone.

Have received several calls with no message. Tonight the computer forgot to hang up when I didn't answer. After about a minute I hear a lady comment "I'm stuck between calls. I don't know what to do. someone help me." At that point I deleted the message off the answering machine.

Survey
Hmm ...  interesting.  I wish I had read this thread before I was called this morning.  I got a live representative who claimed to represent AARP and wanted my opinions on several Medicare-related questions.  I thought he was legitimate, since I'm an AARP member, but not yet old enough for Medicare I was uninformed about his topics and more or less said so.  He seemed disappointed but didn't try more than twice for any question to get me to respond.

AARP literature frequently tries to get its members to support particular political leanings, so I thought he wanted me to answer in a particular way.  That's another reason why I didn't answer at all.  Finally, so that I could be properly acquainted with issues, he asked for my e-mail address.  I refused to give it, thinking that otherwise it would lead to legitimate but unwanted AARP e-mail.  Maybe my instinct had really protected me from opening myself up to a scammer.  In any case, if there's a next time, I'll know better.

Calling the number back gives a recording that presents the option not to be called again but with no identification of the original caller.  So I now believe this isn't AARP at all.

Calls come in every day from this number.   I let calls where I do not recognize the number or person go to voicemail.   If they leave no message they do not know me and I do not call back.  I finally shortened the ring cycle to only two rings.   Today a male voice decided to be cute I guess and said I have the nipples or what sounded like that and hung up.   It s possible it was to somebody there he was saying a code for the call that i did not hear correctly as he said it so fast it was hard to understand on the machine.   Obvious telemarketer.    Thankful for the answering machine!    Do seem to get fewer of those calls, maybe they are passing along info that no one ever answers that number.

Call from Washington, DC, male voice said "can you hear me," I hung up.  I believe I have received calls from this number in the past.  I added the number to my "do not answer" list.

Bot asked me to hold for an important message. A few seconds later a gentleman claiming to be AARP asked me about giving out my medicare number first, then asked me if I realized that giving out numbers involving medical things could lead to Identity Theft, Then asked if I have any medical documents laying around. I let him know I'm not on Medicare, I do know better then to give out any such numbers and that I shred all documents I don't keep in my safe. He thanked me for the information & hung up. His voice did sound disappointed. I have talked to AARP many times they have always been straight & to the point, this call didn't fit their profile. My brother told me about a Cd available from Amazon.com Called, "Stop Telemarketers", that has a special tone that blocks calls like this. They claim that when your answering machine or voice-mail answers and plays the tone the robot caller will automatically kick your number out of their database & hang up. When used properly the calls will stop coming in after a week or two. Amazon will get you a refund if it doesn't work as claimed. I think I'm going to try it.

Might help if you read up on it so its understood. Most have made the mistake that it stops everything, which it does not, then get mad cause it doesn't. You also need to report the calls you get properly.

https://www.donotcall.gov/
http://www.ftc.gov/opa/2008/04/dncfyi.shtm
http://business.ftc.gov/documents/bus27-complying-telemarketing-sales-rule
http://business.ftc.gov/documents/bus27-compl ... -rule#DNCrights
http://www.consumer.ftc.gov/articles/0076-telemarketing-scams
http://www.tcpalaw.com/

And here is where you report those calls:

https://www.ftccomplaintassistant.gov/#&panel1-1
https://esupport.fcc.gov/ccmsforms/form1088.action
https://complaints.donotcall.gov/complaint/complaintcheck.aspx?panel=2

And if you read the FTC & FCC's web pages, you can see who gets caught, what is going on. Even the news stations and news papers will report the enforcements. You can see some of those right here also if you look to the right side bars.

It's not the No Call Registry that is at fault.  It is just a list.   It is all of those who fail to honor the list.
There is no way in the world that all of the calls made in the usa can be monitored,   screened,   or blocked.
Just like the National DNC,   it is just a list that works on the honor system,   of which there is very little of today.

Received a call from this number 845 PM on a Friday night! Answered it to nothing, no voice no recording, silence. Hate calls that late at night. We go to bed early and hard to let the phone just ring till the machine kicks in. Thought they couldn't call after 800 at night?

Got the call at 9:05 p.m. CST.  When I answered the phone, there was no response.  HMM.  Any one who calls at this time of night better be an emergency from now on!  Please don't call me again.  Wonder how much you get paid for the # of phone calls you make and you don't have to reply to the caller?  I want that job, I'm unemployed, 60 and looking for a "cush" job.

All Congressmen/Congressladies are also in Washington, DC. But, it all likelihood it was a scam.
I have been receiving a lot of those lately. Most are associated with the Dominican Republic or Jamaica.
Do NOT answer these calls and especially do NOT return their calls.

The caller, 202-803-4906,  called us @ 10:22, 11/21/2013. The man claimed he is AARP, wanted to ask us 3 questions. My wife told him;" Please do not call again." We both pick up the phone. Many people reported this unwanted number with www.800notes.com since 03/20/2013. I am an AARP member, but never give them our phone number for survey.

Very aggressive.  Would not identify who they worked for other than "AARP" because of "Security reasons".  Said if we would not talk now we had to give them an email address so they could follow up.  Yeah, right.
