Scam IRS call from 202 241 1818. Threatened legal action if I didn't call. Called from a blocked number, person picked up and was abusive when I refused to give my number. It's an active line as of 3/111/14.

this number called and stated the IRS insists i call a 202# to keep from further actions against me! Although the number was infact IRS it still is a scam.

I also received a call on 11/8/2013 from phone number
202-808-3661 stated that it is IRS hot line and need to call immediately with my SS#
I realized it is scam because seems like not professional IRS calls ...just some one try to scary you and force you to call.

Got a call from an 800-829-1040 number and the caller asked me to call back at 202-808-3661 to discuss about a criminal investigation related to my tax returns. I later realized that it's a scam.

If I report it to real IRS, can they take any action against these guys?

Got a call this morning from a 800 number which displayed US IRS, but the person on line said call this no.2028083661... Blaa Blaa. Telling about criminal investigation from IRS.when asked for letter got angry..

i got scamed by these people. they got me for $5000. dollars. they claimed that they are from IRS and left a massage on my home phone saying that its important to call IRS at 202-808-3661.  when i called they said that my mother has a criminal case against her and that i need to go to a local place to pay her bond. they said i had to purchase  green dot cards to pay IRS over the phone or else the immigration was gonna come to take my mother to jail. i was really worried and did everything they told me to and after i give them the information from the cards, they said... after talking to general attorney, the $5000 was not gonna be enough and i need to get them another $9000 and at this point i got the feeling that i was being scamed and so while with these people on the phone i decided to drive over to the police station and talk to a cop for some help, i drove to alameda police station where i live and asked to talk to an investigator . i waited and after waiting for half hour some cop came out , i explained the problem. the officer said to that , that is not how the IRS works. they will send you papers to tell you about a problem if there is any. the officer said to hang up the phone and call the card people to cancel the card. i called the green dot card people to check the balance on the card and was told that it was $0. on the card and that they cant help me. i am so mad that people would do something like this. i worked very hard for this money and to just lose it like that really makes me sick to my stomach. the people are from india . i know this because of their accent and i lived in pakistan so i understand hindo . i will never trust another indian and the indian that works for me at my store is gonna be fired do to what his people did to me today. for all those people who dont know ..... be careful not to fall for this. i am sure some people who are reading this is saying that i should of known better and i do. but at that point all that i was thinking about was my mother in jail and i was willing to do anything in my power to stop that from happening. i didnt think the time to think it over. i just thought i was saving my mother from going to jail. now i can tell you that i will never show love to any body from india and will never do anything to help them.

You need to contact the social security office and tell them this. Place fraud alerts on your credit and banking as well. Contact the real IRS and file a complaint/report with them also, see the links above.

I got a call from a private number and left a number 202-808-3661 to call back to IRS. When I called back and asked what is the problem? I did ask him to let me talk to your Manager, but he refused and said that he is busy and will call you back. It is a scam.

They're looking to scare people into paying for taxes they don't even owe.  Report the callers to the real IRS at www.irs.gov.

Do not give them any info. See my post and Elspeth's above for the links to the IRS and report this call.  If the real IRS needed to contact you, they would send a letter.

And as far as not shutting them down, some of these criminals, extortion scammers and frauds are not in the US. They move around constantly even when they are and they spoof numbers & caller ID.   It takes time to catch these guy's and then if they are in a foreign country, then you have more red tape. That country has to co-operate with ours and that doesn't always happen.

Why has no one shut these folks down? Is this a scam... they would not give me the social they where calling about to verify if they where calling the correct person. I sais you have my name but what is the social you have to go with it. They would not give it to me. They have not asked for any money... but if I give them my social they will have what they need to scam me. In my opinion!

So what happened? I got a call -- are they looking for us to give them our social to begin their scam?

I got a several calls from 202 area code said that they from IRS , criminal investigation, etc.... Today, I got a call from this number 202-808-3661 from IRS and treaten me with legal action if I did not call back with my name and SS #.

If the IRS wanted to talk to you, they'd send you a letter via good old snail mail.  The IRS, for all it's faults, does not threaten people with legal action if they don't return a call.  Sounds like a typical fake IRS scammer calling you.  Report the caller to the real IRS at www.irs.gov.
