I received a call from this number as well. I called back and they said the were CBE Group a collection Agency.

Don't anwser ... Weird collection place trying to get me to tell them my ss number.. I hung up.

Got a call from this number - hung up before I could answer.

this caller is very annoying. they have been calling for the past couple of days.!! urgh i dnt know how to make them stop calling me.!!

Got call from 202-870-5878 number. First there was pause for couple of seconds and then smbdy spoke in spanish and disconnected. Very annoying.

they call everyday. when i called them back they knew it was me. they were asking me questions when i would turn the questions on them they said they would loose their job if they answered me. oh well..

Funny they have been calling me all week. i finally talked to them and they asked if i was so and so i said yes. they asked do you live at so and so i said who wants to know? they wouldnt tell me so i said you tell me who you are and i'll answer your questions. they said they can loose their job if they answer my questions. i said well take my number out of your system. thank you guys for posting this i did have dish network at one time or direct tv cant remember which one but now i know what the scam is.

My Mom keeps getting calls from these guys so I looked into it for her. they are a collection agency for medical groups and telecomm (satellite) companies. around Oct 09 she had dish network overall she was happy with the service but suddenly she did not have local channels. She asked me to see why so I checked the reciver they did not show up then I called dish network and they informed me that regardless of the agreement she had with them local channels were no longer available to her because they had changed satellites and she would have to pay 100.00 (approx) for a new dish because of the change they made. this made her angry so she contacted Direct TV the next day a truck was out and had her hooked up. she then called dish network back to cancel her service they initially informed her that she would have to pay a 400.00 early disconnect fee, after some discussion she got it reduced to 100.00 this was paid and she noted the number they gave her. Unfortunatly she still gets bills for "service" more than four months after the last bill was paid and the equipment including the dish horn was sent back as per their instructions. several calls to dish network have failed to correct the problem now it seems that they have turned her over to these cbe crooks. you should see the website where they tout their "strong midwestern values" like they are not the vultures that they are. very frustrating

They called and asked for my first name. When i asked which one, they said they second, we have no second. I told them i wasn't home .

This is a bill collector.  I think they have connections to other bill collector because if you answer, you'll be flooded with calls from "different" collectors back to back.  Most bill collectors will call you the maximum number of times allowed by law.  So, these calls can get annoying after a while.

When they call ANSWER THE PHONE!!!  If you get "dead air", wait a second for a person to answer.  DON'T ARGUE WITH THEM ABOUT THE DEBT YOU MIGHT OWE.  They're just doing their job by calling you.  Get their mailing address and your "account number" attached to the debt and the original debtor (if they have it).  Then, write them a "Cease and Desist" letter.  (Google it and you'll find a TON of them.)  Make two copies -- one for them and one for your records.  Send their copy by Certified Mail so they have to sign and you get a copy of the signature.  This way, you KNOW they received it.  Once they get that letter, by law, they have to stop calling you.  If they call again, you can report them to the FCC and they'll be fined.

NOTE:  THIS WORKS WITH ALL BILL COLLECTORS!!  IF THEY CONTINUE CALLING YOU, THEY ARE IN VIOLATION OF THE LAW AND CAN BE FINED AND/OR SHUT DOWN!!!

BE ADVISED, THIS DOES NOT MAKE YOUR DEBT GO AWAY -- YOU STILL OWE AND NEED TO PAY THE DEBT.  This will ONLY stop the annoying phone calls.

This number has been calling my NEW phone number... Today I answered and they have an address that I have not given to anyone except the U.S. Postal Service. Go figure. I don't owe anyone 'bad debts' ... The ONLY way they could associate the phone and address would be through the U.S. Post Office. What a SCAM from the U.S. GOVERNMENT.

The first time they called me I answered and I actually got someone asking if I was in (first name only as if he knew me personaly) I said yes and he asked me if I lived at ...(he had my address correctly) instead of saying yes, I asked who it was and he said he couldn't tell me who it was until he verified who I was! I hung up on him. I found out who they were by typing this number into google.

I answered a call from them, while their recording stated to hold for a rep from CBE... who are they? I had a bad connection while they ask me who I was. They keep calling my mobile and won't leave messages etc. the prefix 202-is from DC.

They called my cell while I was at the hospital getting tests for a brain tumor.  I didn't look at the phone number until after I left the hospital. They had not left a message.  Glad I checked the number on this website before even thinking about returning the call. --- Don't need any additional hassles right now.      THANKS FOR THE ABOVE INFORMATION!!

got call last night said 'please hold for a CBE representative' or some nonsense, so i hung up.

Didn't answer - caller ID said 202-870-5878 Washington DC - wasn't expecting a call from my congressman cause they don't want to hear from me -

this group changes their phone # every week.  i get calls to my cell almost daily & i don't have any collection problems.  folks who have written in & talked to these folks say it's a scam.  each person has had a different experience of what this bunch wanted...nothing matched.

This is a collection agency called "The CBE Group". They don't care about your problems and are mean spirited!! They will break every collection law on the books to get your money you need for food, etc... Good luck.
