202-879-4170 is now claiming to be ?Mark Murphy?s office?.    Linked with shady and lying "debt collection"

Asked for a person who I did not know, indicated that the Attorney gave them the number with the personal information written down on it. They hung up when I asked them what Attorney.

Just got a call from this number, and we are on the government do not call list and also the state of Florida!

The caller ID showed up on my phone as District of Columbia.  I too am on the DNC list. Doesn't stop anyone because they pay the fine and make way more in sales I guess.  At any rate if I don't recognize the number I don't pick up - if it is important they will leave a message - if they don't want to leave a message then they don't want to talk to me.  

Nobody from the caller monitors this. So there's nothing anybody here can do to stop them calling.

Well now there is a 202-879-7799, they keep changing numbers and they say they a law firm who's going to have you arrested...LOL!!! I have never been to Washington or anything...but here's the kicker, they can stop it but want your information....If they got that much pull, and if you owe any debt for a long time...Today ain't no different than 5 years ago...I'm speaking to a lawyer about this.

This is a telemarketer, or otherwise unwanted caller.

I would have to get on the do not call.list too so please.don't ever call my phone again because I'm not enterested at all. I'm.going to find out how to investigate this matter.

I also got a call from 202-879-4170 from Washington DC. I have the new IOS operating system on my iphone and I was able to block that caller. Just go into phone and hit the recents button then hit the blue information icon to the right of the number, then scroll all the way down and hit Block caller. Done!

well they are still calling people. I am not on the do not call list but I have found that when I continually refuse to answer numbers I don't know eventually I get fewer and fewer calls and now its down to about once a month. have had my number for almost ten years. when I switch carriers(four times) it starts over. so tells me the phone companies themselves are selling our numbers and somebody is keeping up with data as far as who answers and who doesn't.

I just got a call from this number moments ago. I didn't pick up since I didn't recognize the number. Figured if it was legit, he would leave a voicemail. Also, I have an app on my phone that helps me to identify unknown numbers. It came up as Scott Frederick. I googled his name and this number. I found only one Scott Frederick on LinkedIn in the Washington D.C. area. It said he works in Venture Capital & Private Equity.

They called my cell phone. Did not answer as I have everyone's number saved in my contacts--including debt collection lines. They did not leave a message. I live in Maryland about an hour outside of DC where the number supposedly originated. Googled the number in case it was someone with whom I had done business (or to whom I do owe money) but found this thread instead. For anyone who has not had the pleasure of falling behind on bills, etc., ALL legitimate collection agencies and past due bill departments for a store such as Macy's will leave a message. They will clearly identify themselves, whom they are trying to reach, and a return number with a reference number or extension.
For those who do not know, if a caller says you owe money to a company with whom you do business, simply call the number on the back of your card or billing statement. They will tell you if there is an issue with your account. I hope this helps even one person.

Just received a call from this number, did not answer. Dont answer calls from unknow numbers -  if you answer, then they know it is a live/working number and will then call repeatedly.

BEST ADVICE - NEVER do monetary transactions over the phone ESPECIALLY WHEN THEY CALL YOU! if they called you, YOU REALLY DONT KNOW WHO IT IS.
im not saying dont make a payment or purchase over the phone. but only do it if 1. you initiated to call and 2. you verified the number you are calling. if you receive a message asking you to call back at number xxx , then verify the number is correct or just use the customer service number on the website. NEVER trust incoming calls or numbers asked to call.

Reporting to the do not call may help, but these scams change numbers like you change clothes and they are an illegal operation that doesnt care about the DNC. The truth is NO MONEY = NO CALLS. if you really want this to stop, tell everyone you know - NEVER give money over the phone.  NO MONEY = NO CALLS

I got a call from this number at my home and cell.  They claimed they were Police Protection Services.  When I attempted to call back, there wasn't an answer.

They just called my cell i didn't answer, no message was left.

Called me on my DNCed cell AT WORK. I'm not losing my freaking job to these teleterrorists (and other commenter shouldn't have nearly crashed his truck), which is what they want. Cute ploy by raking Obama's name through the mud too. Damn scum. Probably bankers running ye aulde divide-and-conquer scam as a side job anyway.

I just got a call from this number as well.  I declined it and they left no message.  I NEVER answer a call from a number I do not know.  It is good to know it is from a mortgage blaster.  I would not be a good customer to them cause I have no home.  I hate solicitors.

I am on the do not call list, and reported these guys.  I was grateful that the number was on caller ID, and I could look it up on the internet .  By doing this, I was able to give as much information as I could when I made my complaint to donotcall.gov. .
