Ha ha, sending the sheriff in 45 mins! These guys seem to be sitting in Nigeria for all I know. Notice their accent, its different. Plus, the person who left the message, said "Gold bless you!". I don't think IRS would end the voice call with that phrase, nothing wrong with it, but I don't believe they'd do that. I wonder which sheriff's dept they'd call! Bunch of losers.

I did report the suspicious number to the IRS. Thank you for the advice.

I received a call from the same number with the exact story, when my caller ID shows 1-800-829-1044, which is the IRS number. When I asked he pushed me for the date of birth. When I declined, he threatened me that I should prepare to call my attorney as they are going to send the sheriff to arrest me in the next 45 minutes. This is so fraud!!!!!!!!!

Hi, everybody i also received a call  so many times and on my caller id. it also showed up 1-800-829-1040 which is IRS number. but when i did'nt pick up the phone they left a message saying they calling from IRS and i have to call back on 202-888-0153 which is very urgent or if i disregard this massage then i will be in a big trouble or i have to go to jail... but when i called IRS and wait for almost 45-50 min they answered my phone and the IRS lady give me her I.Dnumber and told me that IRS never called any body reg. for SSN and for credit card or any balance oweing...if somebody owe IRS anything they always send the person letter stamped with IRS info...so please don't give any info on the phone ...this is very big fraud using  IRS phone number...and after that when i called back on 202-888-0153 phone number the guy picked up the phone on first bell. and he said that he is calling from IRS if i don't give him the SSN and info then they put me in a big touble..so i hanged up the phone...and then again i called after 40 mins later on this number then again the same guy he picked up the phone , now he was saying that he is from Criminal Branch officer or something about Criminal offence and he said my name and he gave my full add. and phone number... and he said that if didn't take this serious and then he put me on a big trouble because they are from Criminal branch or something... and after that i told him that i file i report for this phone number  and told the police everything...then he got mad...and he said to me Oh when you file the report...and i didn't take that  serious..because i told him that i don't owe anything to IRS and i know that my records are perfectly fine and then he said that Oh really ok now it's our turn ...so watch we taking a serious step and he hang up the phone...so please everybody don't get scared about these kinds of phone call and give them a solid answer because i was so mad and i was yelling and fighting with them and i told then in future don't call me back...

I received a call twice from them. The no on my caller ID showed up as 1-800-829-1040 which is a legitimate IRS no. However, on other places, I have read that this may be spoofed by the scammers. A guy left a message saying that they are calling from IRS and asked me to call them back on 202-888-0153 for an urgent issues. His message said that it is a time sensitive matter and I need to have my name and SSN ready. I called the 202 number and spoke to a person who claimed that he was from IRS. I do not see this number anywhere on the IRS website. Obviously, I didn't give him my name or SSN, I believe this is a scam and if you are concerned, then call the IRS toll free no directly instead of the no left in their message. Also, I believe that IRS would send you a letter in the mail if there were any issues instead of calling you directly.
