Caller asked for the owner by name.  I told the caller that the owner was getting ready to go out to lunch but offered voicemail.  He said yes, and then I asked for his name... he said he will leave the name in the voicemail.  I left this idiot on hold until he just hung up.

darnelda with the economic growth council (with partner america) called for the owner. she says she spoke with him yesterday, but her phone dropped the call. he has NO clue who she is, nor has he spoken with her. she left a call-back number (877-375-5916) and said tammy would answer, then forward the call back to her (darnelda).

When I tell them no one is available they hang up. Tried to call them back and got only a scratchy horrible buzzing sound- no person.

I THINK I MIGHT KNOW THE SECRET TO GET THEM TO STOP CALLING!!!!!

I just had a conversation with a woman who swore up and down that the Conference of Mayors was a legit enterprise and that they are here to help small, private businesses, blah blah blah......I told her that I was suspicious of calls from this # and that this # has a bad reputation on phone # reporting sites like this one.    I also told her that we are NOT a small business and wanted our # removed.  She said she didn't know how to do that.  She asked if we were a private business or if we were publicly traded.

Well, since she already said they help PRIVATE businesses, I told her we were publicly traded and all of a sudden she knew how to remove our # from her call list!!!

We'll see if that helps.  I've made a note of who I spoke to and when so if they ever call back, I can quote that info to them.

Caller claimed to be Tom Hale with the Commonwealth of Virginia and he asked to speak to one of our presidents.  I put him on hold and immediately looked up this # and glanced at the notes :o)  I got back on the phone with him and verified that he was calling from the Commonwealth of Virginia and when he said yes, I asked why his # came up as a Washington DC #.  He said he was with a particular division and I said, "But wouldn't you still be in Virginia and not DC?"  He asked again for the president and I told him that he was unavailable and offered voicemail, which he said was fine.  I told him I'd transfer his call AND pass along the information I found online about the telephone # he was calling from.  He mumble something then I just disconnected him.  I don't have a LOT of power at the front desk but when I do get a little bit, I go nuts!!  LOL

Received a call from Mindy Hammond, no company, insisting on speaking to the owner who allegedly called her a couple of days ago.  Hard to believe because the owner has been on vacation for a week.  Kept insisting that I give her the owner's cell #.

Bye-bye now.

They call my office constantly looking for the owner. Sometimes I don't answer, sometimes I say he's not in, and sometimes I let them sit on hold....They don't give up.

I received a call from a Mr. Nick Lester. He asked for the owner by name. I asked him what company he was with. he said I don't understand you. I said what company are you calling from. He said that he is not with a company. I told him the owner is unavailable to speak to him, he said "now when you said that he is unavailable is he there or out of office?" I said he is in the middle of something. He said he would hold. I told him that I am only in the office for the next 3 1/2 hours; he said he would not hold for that long. I guess he must have figured out my sarcasm.

PS Truth teller, you are correct about sales people, but there is a difference between honest sales people and arogant solicitors.

To 'Truth Teller'- This number that you defended in your reply to me called our office again today SEVEN times in a row...That is not someone calling to place a friendly invite to a confrence with the mayor...That is the behavior of a scum-bag telemarketer.  You can say it's legit until you are blue in the face...Our president of the company will attend this confrence with our city's mayor when we recieve a mailed invite from the mayor's office in the city Kansas City, MO, not from a fishy phone call from Washington, DC that has many, many documented complaints about it.  I did indeed do my job, as do all of the other admin assistants and receptionists that question the types of calls that you so whole-heartly believe in.

Gee, jacka$$, don't you think we've tried asking not to be called?  All we get is rudeness and hang ups.  If that tactic worked then the calls would have stopped a long time ago and no one would be complaining about them.

Let's see - so many negative comments about calls from this number and only one person supporting them.  It appears that YOU are a liar.  And a pain in the a$$.

You post a link to a web site that no one can verify is associated with the phone calls we're receiving from this number.  And we don't care.  If a caller - for ANYONE in my company - is rude to me, they are making it that much more difficult to get through to the person they want to speak to.  And if it's a member of our upper management (whose phone calls we are required to screen), then all you will EVER get is a shot at voicemail.

So how come when these people call they cannot be honest enough to tell us what is going on and have to lie about what the call is about. We caught them out.

Woman called and asked for the company president by first name.  I asked for her name and she replied, "Jamie".  I said, "last name?" and she said, "Katz - K - A - T - Z" and I said, "company?" and she said, "I'm not with a company, I just want to talk to _____", implying that she was a personal friend of the president.  So I paged the boss & told her Jamie Katz was on 2 & the boss said, "Who?"  I then told her that the woman on the phone implied that she was a personal friend & the boss told me she'd never heard of her before but she'd take the call and "let her have it".  LOL  Man, I love the way her voice ices over when she knows she's taking a nuisance call!  I did overhear the boss say, "I'm not interested" so I know whoever the woman was, she was trying to sell something...

You respond to messages regarding the phone calls that are coming in with such hostility, are you the obnoxious marbeled mouth person that is placing the calls?  I laugh at them when they call here, same as I would laugh at you.  Your sad to comment back to people in the defense of these rude callers.  You get back from people what you put out there.  Maybe if these callers were really trying to do business they would learn how to do it professionally, hey here's an idea, since you have all the answers why don't you give them a class.   Oh by the way, thanks for the compliment of calling us (receptionist / secretaries / etc.) "Pitbull" you just validated that we are doing our job.  Have a nice day.

No actually we are told by the business owners not to let such calls come through and in my situation we have caller ID and  why would  an out of town number be calling about our local mayer having a dinner? And also I have let a couple really good ones slip through and had to stand in the office with my boss while he puts these bottom dwellers with no life on hold and occassionally pick up the phone to see if they were stupid enough to actually hang on. If things are so legit leave a message and they will call you back what do yoiu not understand when we politley tell youi he doesnt take incoming calls but we would be happy to take a message? So no we do not think we are the bosses we just do our jobs correctly sorry yours consist  of harrassing people that have REAL jobs .

Why not just say not to call again, or ask to speak to their manager................why play games.  I know it is annoying but at the end of the day, just like you are being a secretary to earn a living and to feed yoru family, so do telemarketers and salesmen.  I'm not justifiying decietful, or mal practices in selling.  But again nothing moves in this world unless something is sold.

You said yourself , the caller said "in behalf of Mayor Funkauser's office".............well if you would have done your research  www.usmayors.org  You will be  pleased to find that their was an actual dinner event held in Kansas City on behalf of Mayor Funkhauser.  A separate private company was in charge of RSVP and making sure atleast every owner knew that they invitation was extended to them.  Even though they invites where mailed out, alot of companies have expanded, moved, the ownership has changed, or whatever the case may be they didn't recieve the invites, the call you got was a courtesy call to extend the invitation to attend............................But you "Pitbull" wanna be watch dog of secretaries are skeptical of every call that comes through.  (I don't blame you because I get tons of telemarketing calls as well) They company selected is actually based out of washington, d.c. that is non for profit..........hince forth the 202 num (that can't recieve incoming calls) and the 877 number (toll free) so owners can call back...........................this is an classic example of "one bad apple spoils the bunch" based on prior calls and experiences with sales calls you automatically lumped this call into that bunch and it probably really did't matter what the caller said, because your mind was made up.............I'm willing to bet your owner probably was in his office at the time, twiddling his thumbs, but you where so gun-ho that this was a sales call you probably didn't even check with him, simply judged the call.  This is what is wrong with our world today!!!!!!!

If you wouldn't have really done your homework...................www.usmayors.org   then you would see that there was a small business dinner held that date on behalf of the mayors.  Your local mayor was present with the small business advocate award.  They problem with todays world is the bad taste we have in our mouths as salesmen.  Truth of the matter is, if you work for a business chances are your business has a sales process, and the company doesn't make money until something is sold.  We live in a world of commerce, nothing moves until something is sold, yet everybody is scared of a salesman.  So scared that infact every call that comes into a business is automatically treated as such.  This was a leggit dinner that was held and they are still being held in various cities.  The problem is secretaries and personal assistants to the owners think they actually run the business.

We get calls from these folks on a regular basis and they ask for a gentleman who had been our company CEO but fairly recently took a more active position with our parent company in another state.  Therefore, he doesn't spend much time here in our office and no longer performs the same duties.  I've gotten to know the voices and 'routines' of some of these people who constantly call and caller ID allows me to know who is calling before I even pick up.

A female from this # called today and it seems she's called before because when she asked for our former CEO and I told her he was out of town, she responded in a very whiney and irritated voice, "But I thought he was going to be back LAST Wednesday!!"  Yes, he was out of town 2 weeks ago and was scheduled to be in for a few days last week.  But now he's travelling again.

I began to explain that he is no longer our CEO and that he rarely works out of our local office but she cut me off before I could give her more info.  She said she would call his cell phone and I advised her that he now has a new cell # (which he doesn't and I knew she didn't have his # anyway).  She didn't know what to say and she stammered and mumbled.  I then just hung up on her.  I have no idea who she is with but she sure is a pain in the butt, which is why I don't mind having a little fun at her expense :o)

I received a call from this number on my direct line, a gentleman claiming he was calling on behalf of a dinner event with the mayor, i had never received an invitation from the mayor.  I asked him for details and gave me the place, time and told me he was rsvp'ing me.  I was curious and called the mayors office directly, and was told there was indeed a dinner being held and the mayor was attending.  I went, it was a great night, very classy, the mayor met went to each table and met with everyone and the guest speaker was excellent as well.  Kept waiting for a sales pitch or campaign contribution to pop up but it never happened.  Great time!  The conference of mayors is indeed a legitimate non profit in DC www.usmayors.org

Called twice today for the CEO & actually got his name right (which is unusual for telemarketers).

If it's an unfamiliar number I VM 'em. Which I did.  Then she calls back & says "I got his voicemail, is he in the office?"

"No he's at lunch"

"What would be a good time to reach him?"

"Later this afternoon, after 2."

Which was the truth, he wasn't in but he'd be back.

She calls back about 2:15.  He's in but there's no way I'm givin' him the call, so I VM her again. She does the exact same thing, calls back & says she got his VM is he in, etc.  No he's not in & won't be back until Monday.

We're based 30mins. from DC & do work in DC so it wouldn't be unusual for someone in that area code to call us or call the CEO from a DC number but after coming here & reading about their harassment tactics I don't plan on ever letting them get through to him.
